I thought the project is PPP so why the claim if fraud when it's a private entity and. It government that is providing like 70% of funds. Nigerians should learn to read and not just follow emotions. OBJ is clearly mischievous with this claim abeg.

Is it the govt that is financing the project? My understanding is that a higher percentage of the project is financed by the private sector. I am sure the private sector will provide the bigger chunk of needed finance. What's wrong with having foreign direct investment into Nigeria's infrastructure.
This argument is lame. Was it the government that provided all the money for Buhari’s railways? Are the private investors giving us their part of the finance as charity? At the end of the day, Nigeria and Nigerians will inevitably pay the full cost of the loan (with interest).

It's BOT project, so Nigerians are not paying the full cost of any loan. You don't seem to understand much about the coastal road project.

Of course, the highway will be tolled, but you are not under compulsion to use it. You can always use the existing route.

BOT yet the government gave 1 trillion in 2024 and God-knows-how-much in 2025. Who's fooling who? What does the O segment of the BOT entail? Tolls, tolls and more tolls. In other words, you and I will pay.

The government has been solely funding the project from the budget thus far. Otherwise, tell us how much of the contractor's money has been expended on the contract. Everything is so opaque, no transparency.

Very rich coming from an old clown that wasted $16b on some non-existent power project.(which will be worth around same amount now for the road construction). Typical Nigerian with absolute lack of self-awareness. I don't particularly like Tinubu, but all this criticism by Obj is just his narcissism taking control over him. He's very pained another Yoruba man became president in his lifetime.

What part of 30% of the project do you not understand?
In addition, No one will force you to use the road, so you are not paying anything. You can always drive the existing longer route if you don't wanna pay to enjoy the scenic view.

How many roads did Obasanjo build during his own time. The road to his home town was in bad shape.

Beside being a wasteful project, it is smeared with corruption.

It's a misplaced priority. The existing road network has been in crisis.

Housing is more critical compared to the coastal road, New towns can be built freeing up the cities and new economic hubs.

What Lagos- calabar needs is a train rail system. This is to further attract more business to Lagos ports, while those in south south are killed for Lagos to remain the shipping hub

Obasanjo is probably going senile...how can an alternative road connecting the whole nation, that will drive commerce and movement be wasteful?

How can an alternative safe road to travel across Nigeria be wasteful, a road where you won't worry about bandits, who hide in forest etc...hate is bad for your soul, it's clear baba is still bitter despite claiming to be a pastor. Very disappointing from Obasanjo.

Nigerians stop hating, hate and bitterness will destroy your soul and sense of reasoning.

Your governors can fix the road that is within your region, they are making a lot of money now. Your hate and jealousy for Lagos will destroy you, but lagos is the state bringing the most VAT shared to your lazy governors. Dumb head hater.

Do you know that the Lekki deep sea port was not financed by the FG? Last time I checked, Akwa ibom is embarking on a similar state project.

Plus a rail system has a higher infrastructure costs: Building and maintaining rail infrastructure (tracks, signals, etc.) is also expensive.

if Obasanjo,Yar'Adua and co embarked on such projects and put the economy at risk with lots of debt I don't think the government of the day will be breathing
Coastal highway to fraud is another avenue to embezzle funds.
The fiasco power project by Obasanjo is what?

No one takes Baba iyabo serious.
A man who spent $16b on electricity, no lights no money. Yet some Nigeria still see him as a good man.
He is their daddy because he is anti great president Tinubu

AMINDA:
Spending 15 trillion (half of the country's budget) on a single road without procurement is not only misplaced, it's fraudulent. It does not help that the contractor (Chargoury) is a business partner of the contract awardee. That's conflict of interest. A quarter of that sum would have completed the linking of the entire country by rail, as envisioned by Buhari. That would have had far more impact in terms of travel, tourism, logistics, business opportunities and social development.
Somebody wit sense. That project was without due process n meant to enrich chargoury.Road infrastructure can never surpass railway infrastructure in any developing society. Its a complete misplaced priority. If he has connected d length n breadth of this country by train ....he wo
ould hav cemented his legacy.

It is not wasteful.

Obasanjo was already in government when Nigeria had too much money. That was in the 70s. Nigeria could have done many ambitious projects like railways, built large roads, built factories, built several energy stations, built the Lagos-Calabar coastal road, developed infrastructure for gas, built new cities like Eko Atlantic, built more refineries, and set Nigeria on the path to a sustainable future.

Had the likes of Obasanjo contributed their quota with long term vision, Nigerians would have been enjoying the results till today. In my travels, many countries' infrastructure are aged but the people were still enjoying them. They are still building new ones and upgrading old ones.

The coastal highway will not only open new economic frontiers, it would provide jobs and reduce congestion in urban areas. People can work in urban areas and go to their homes on the weekends. Prices of commodities would reduce when the ease of transportation is guaranteed.

Go to major countries, infrastructure is a major thing. China? UAE? USA?

Those opposed to the coastal highway are likely jealous that it is being done by Tinubu and not by them.
First of all, Obasanjo taught he will only be the president from south west and Tinubu prove him wrong. The old man could not reconstruct or even repair ota abekouta road that even lead to his current abode, go there now and see the serious construction going on. Obasanjo is not visionary like Tinubu. When Tinubu conceive the idea of getting more LGA, he faught Tinubu to the extend of withholding the entire LGA funds. Tinubu introduced free trade zone to Nigeria that he even copied and other governors till date. The coaster road is a beautiful idea and will unlock the potential of south west and south south economy. It will reduce travelling time and many people can work in Lagos and go back.

Sani is wrong on this one u cannot say becos somebody stole 30trillion then its ok to waste 15trillion on road infrastructure we dnt need.Train would hav made less cars to ply d road n given change for maintenance of d existing roads that govt has neglected.
U only go building superhighway wen u hav basic infrastructure like railaway.
Ano most Nigerians dont understand that train tracks connecting d length n breadth of Nigeria is basic while a superhighway is for those who already hav numerous train routes connecting d country.

It's not as wasteful as Festac 77. Morever if billions of dollars carted away have been used for supposed waste projects like this, Nigerians would have complained less.

I hate it when some fantastically corrupt individuals suddenly turn into saints and start calling their fellow corrupt individuals thieves.

Obasanjo, who spent $16 billion on electricity with nothing to show for it, now has the audacity to call another person a thief. Only naive people take the likes of Babangida and Obasanjo seriously.

I do not think that small minds understand the value of that project to Nigerias future with regards to travel, tourism, logistics and the vast business opportunities and social development that it will birth.
I dont think that small minds see it when they are being stolen from blindly through illegal contracts awarded without process to criminal side-kicks like Chagouri, a convict in two countries: the US and Switzerland!

Neither do small minds see it when a white elephant project is prioritized over decidedly more urgent needs such as power!
