Suspending subsidy and stabilising the forex exchange are steps every right minded politician knows needed to be done. but no one had the courage.

Tinubu had the courage and has done it once and for all. Why postpone a needed change.

You think Dangote will sell at N167, or you suggest we pay subsidy to Dangote too? `will that change anything?

God bless Tinubu for his courage
Why did he oppose subsidy removal in 2012

Subsidy removal can only work as it is now when you have local refining. Without local refining, what you'll have is a distortion

Let the competition continue—Dangote should eliminate all these importers by dropping the price to N650. That way, the importers will have no choice but to buy from him until it becomes cheaper to import. smiley

Exactly but for greediness and selfishness he decided to be selling fuel above what is normal.

We all rejoice when is refinery is coming on stream thinking that it will lessen the price because that would have eliminate the overhead land cost but he choose to be selling his fuel above 1k initially. This is part what prompted FG to resume import fuel to break the monopoly and God bless them for it.

Like you said, selling for 650 or less would have discouraged fuel importing totally but his greediness and capitalist intent wouldn't allow him, just want to milk people dry. I pray more refinery or modular refinery come on stream to challenge his Monopoly, that will be absolute better for we masses. Imagine having only MTN as only license telecom carrier, you will agree with me, many wouldn't have be able to afford even Sim card or phone by now. I pray FG get it right in downstream sector also.
When you wake up from your dreams, importers are receiving secret subsidy and petrol is decreasing due to price of crude the international market

For the current socio-economic realities, PMS should not be more than N400 per litre.
That will only happen if the minimum wage is reduced back to N30,000 and with forex going back to N700/$

It should continue going down until it gets to #500 per liter.

Dangote should do the needful and reduce it further.

Oil marketers/importers should keep their import license with them and be ready to import fuel in case Dangote want to do otherwise and start increasing price.

Anything to favour Nigerian masses is what we want.
With loans borrowed from AfDB, Afreximbank, World Bank to import expensive substandard petrol from Europe and Europeans buys cheaper high quality petrol from Dangote.

I'm beginning to change my stance with this Dangote price war. It might just be his aim to lower prices, force out the competition, own the market and then recoup all losses by jacking up prices.

However, I do not support importation as a way to compete against a locally manufactured product. FIX THE REFINERIES, LICENSE MORE LOCAL REFINERIES AND LET THE CONSUMERS ENJOY HAVING A CHOICE

When minimum wage was N30,000, PMS was about N190... so if it rises to N400, which is more than twice the previous cost, why should the minimum wage go back to N30,000?

On forex, that is agreed. It should not be above N700. Mind you, that is also almost double what it was when minimum wage was N30,000.00

The excitement and euphoria of being sworn in as Nigeria's president overtook Tinubu’s reasoning, which led him to make that thoughtless statement: 'subsidy is gone.'

That thoughtless statement, followed by the floating of the naira, brought untold hardships on Nigerians, and this country will never recover from it.

Subsidy removal was supposed to be a gradual process, ensuring first that our refineries were operational and implementing measures to mitigate its effects on Nigerians.

There was no justification for the price of petrol to rise from below ₦200 to over ₦1,350 per liter in such a short time.

It was pure wickedness and draconian by the Tinubu regime in the way it handled the subsidy removal and floating of the naira.

If Dangote Refinery and other refineries were operational before the subsidy removal, the price of petrol wouldn't have gone beyond ₦400 per liter, and transportation costs, food prices, goods, and services wouldn’t have skyrocketed to the extent that they have
Given enough time, nothing is achieved. It's not you that'll decide if the country will recover or not. It's already recovering.

U mean, subsidy is gone, should have been pronounced in 2025?
Did you think Dangote would have commenced operations successfully if subsidy was not removed? Considering the cost of imported crude that takes more than 70% of his total crude.

Let's call a spade a spade, we face it once and now the price will be coming down till it get to ₦400 u said. My problem is what exactly is the Work of NNPC? Paying huge amount as staff overhead and remitting nothing

Exactly

You dont have alternative source of power yet in your house, yet you cut all Nepa wires in your hourse. Why dont you wait first till you have alternative source of power before doing that.

Have a working refinery first before you do all that rubbish. That was my argument during the GEJ time. You dont put the cart before the horse.

There is no way if fuel is refined here why it wont be cheaper than when it is imported. No way. It will always be cheaper.

So Dangote will sell petrol at N192 or do you want the FG to pay him subsidies too? How you think the refinery will be operational without subsidy removal or payment is what is beyond me, because every right thinking person knows he can't sell at the subsidized price and stay in business.

Instead of saying "eliminating the importers", let us lay emphasis on making all refineries work. This will ensure competition across board. We don't want a situation where Dangote will drive everybody away and then start increasing his prices once again.

Did you really think Dangote was reducing price of fuel because he loves u and because he cares about Nigerians? Wake up brother.
Did you wonder why he hasnt reduced the price of cement.

The truth is that the petrol importers are competing with dangote, hence the price reduction.

You need to understand that there is nothing wrong with importation. In truly deregulated free market, every player is welcome to participate. Govt only needs to regulate. Importation is another mechanism to reduce to force/down price which govt needs to initiate when our local players like Dangote, farmers, manufactures, producers etc become very greedy and sabotage the economy.

However, I do not support importation as a way to compete against a locally manufactured product. FIX THE REFINERIES, LICENSE MORE LOCAL REFINERIES AND LET THE CONSUMERS ENJOY HAVING A CHOICE
