Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai has said the All Progressives Congress, APC, should have expelled him from the party.

El-Rufai said he quit the APC and asked them to “eat the party if it is food.”

Recently, El-Rufai defected from the APC to the Social Democratic Party, SDP.

The former governor blamed the misalignment between his personal values and the current direction of the APC for his defection to the SDP.

El-Rufai expressed disappointment with the APC leadership, stressing that the ruling party strayed from the progressive ideals of its founding members.

In an interview with BBC Hausa Service, El-Rufai said his expulsion from the APC would have saved him from the inconvenience of explaining himself.

According to El-Rufai: “Well, it would have been better for me if they expelled me. I have stated many times that APC would be my last political party.

“Had they expelled me, they would have saved me the troubles of explaining why I left the APC. As I said, I have not left the APC, but the APC rather left me.

“What next? I quit their party, and challenged them to eat the party if it is food.”

Pettiness. El Rufai is an intelligent and respected person. Maybe the covid is finally getting to him. He's seriously leaking in the past few days, like he burst a gasket.

Yearning nonsense because of failed ministerial appointment. They have seen politics as a lifetime business. You have been minister before and eight years as governor, why can't you go and face your personal business and save yourself from these embarrassment? If you not in politics, will you die? In fact, if this country is indeed worried about the rising ethnic tension and insecurities, BAT better hand over power to a liberal Muslim in North Central like Niger or Kwara State and save this country from the claws of Fulani politicians who don't care about sanctity of human lives.

In 2015, El Rufai was said to be a frequent visitor to the villa and was projecting himself as the de facto vice president. There was a rumour that Osinbajo had to assert himself and Buhari politely asked El Rufai to focus on his own state and leave Abuja administration to Abuja politicians.

Then a memo where El Rufai criticized Buhari's economic policies leaked. Does anyone think that document leaked without El Rufai leaking it himself?

I think El Rufai got spoilt when Obasanjo made him one of his closest ministers. He cannot function without being seen to be in charge.

Now that Tinubu decided it might be better to keep El Rufai at arm's length, El Rufai decided to take to the gutters to fight.

El Rufai has fought the following:

1. Atiku
2. Yar'adua
3. Tinubu, when he wanted to dislodge him as the fox of Lagos politics.
4. Buhari, when he called him "Pa Buhari" and advised him not to contest. It was curious he later worked to get Buhari elected.
5. Senator Jonathan Zwingina
6. Senator Ibrahim Mantu
7. Senator Suleman Hunkuyi, for which Buhari named him "Bulldozer"
8. Senator Shehu Sanni
9. Governor Uba Sani
10. PDP
11. APC
12. Nuhu Ribadu

...and so many others

El Rufai is an intelligent man, but he lacks political shrewdness and lacks the ability to plan in secret. He could have been seen as a potential president if he matched his intelligence with the charisma of Yar'adua, the maturity of Nuhu Ribadu, the wisdom of Buhari, the bridge-building capacity of Tinubu, the humility of Jonathan, the craftiness of IBB, the silence of Abacha, and the diplomatic skills of Obasanjo. Obasanjo started demonstrating his brashness after his time in power.

Controversy can only take him so far.

Help Obi to win, if it's possible align yourself with PO and make Obi win.

Though I like him but Politics is a game. He should work in silence building his structure in his new home. APC outsmarted him. He wanted drama but dey just ignored him and he's bittered about that. he should come to terms with that and move on.

The only northern politician that command respect and votes in the north is fmr president buhari.

I don't know who's deceiving El-Rufai, making him believe he has a political value. Someone who rode on Buhari's political influence to become governor.

Except Atiku, the most influential Nigerian politicians now are from the South. Even after bragging about having PhD and all that in the last election, Kwankwaso could only win his home state. I don't even see El-Rufai winning Kaduna State if he stupidly runs for president under SDP in 2027.
