I just noticed that the UK visa center in Enugu has been closed. Please our able governor and other SE governors shouldn't have allowed this to happen. This is so sad and disappointing. |

oilykid:I’ve come to appreciate that nothing in Nigeria is as straight forward as one might think or as it seems on the surface! There’s a lot that may be going on both overtly and covertly to sabotage Igbo interests and progress. This website is a case in point! Hope you observed the monikers who used to always try to keep the ‘sit-at-home’ issue in public consciousness and on the front burner anytime they observe no one is talking about it anymore? These agents of destabilisation and subterfuge are not Igbo….they despise Ndigbo, yet na them carry the ‘sit-at-home’ thing for head pass! However, i’ve noticed that in the past two or so weeks they’ve not been ‘promoting’ it on this forum as they used to, and i think the proactive governance of the Governors of Enugu, Abia and Anambra has prevented their murderous field-agents in the south-east from having the leeway they used to have to attack and murder innocent civilians just to try and sustain a climate of fear in the region! Hopefully, as the security situation in Enugu continues to improve, the Visa Centre will recommence operations! This would help visa applicants not have to make the dangerous and expensive trip to Lagos or Abuja just because they want to apply for visa! |

IGBOPROMISE1:I found the logic of this statement weird. So because of "insecurity" in Enugu our people are then exposed to the insecurity along the Lagos or Abuja way? |

Drone shot of Uwani and Achara Layout. Good to see they're also paying attention to the inner roads of high-density areas in the city and not just the low-density/high-brow ones. Anyone know which gov't planned these old sections of the city? They did a good job. dettolgel:Even Philosopher Kings would be left scratching their heads if asked to reason Naija matter! Fact of the matter is there'd have been no need for your question had Nigeria been a true federation where some states or regions are not held down and cheated to the economic, political and, in this instance, consular advantage of others! Another point to note, minor as it may be, is that there's insecurity and a dangerous road safety culture ALL OVER Nigeria, hence someone from the south-east who has to travel to either Lagos or Abuja to process their visa is made to suffer double-jeopardy compared to others who don't have to leave their region. |

First Enugu Air plane lands at AIIA, Enugu. The blogger says the CNG buses are expected in the next couple of weeks, and he says there’s talk of Enugu Air expanding to international routes and that there’s a plan for a rail link with Abia state. The multiplier effect of these projects are unquantifiable….like employment and catalysing other sectors of the states economy, but i’ve since learnt to be a bit cynical with proposals and MOUs, and i’ll celebrate only when i see something on ground. My enthusiasm is also guarded at this point owing to the ‘Nigerian factor’, and we all know what that means! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KwyWPsySW8?si=cCTf-M2hIp2qKt0B |

I HAVE SAID IT BEFORE, THERE IS NO NEED FOR ANY SOUTH EAST GOVERNMENT TO START RUNNING PRIVATE AIRLINE. THIS ENUGU AIR NOW IS IT FOR ONLY ENUGU PEOPLE? HOW DEOS THAT EVEN MAKE SNESE? RATHER THAN STARTING ENUGU AIR, Y NOT PARTNER AIR PEACE TO OPERATE ENUGU AIR BRANDED PLANS? THAT WOULD MAKE MORE SENSE RATHER THAN A STATE GOVERNMENT RUNNIG PRIVATE AIRLINE. |

| Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by dettolgel: 4:04pm On Mar 29, 2025 |
melodyogonna:So you believe that there is no substantial amount of people travelling to the UK from the East? Why can't our governors lobby for it to be retained and find a way to subsized the cost of operations? Government do that all the time, our government could provide them land for free and even build them an office with a tax free period of 20 years. Those coming from out state will send their money within the state indirectly simulating the economy. Do you know how much our spend going to Abuja or Lagos? Those are revenue that would have been spent in the East. |
| Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by melodyogonna(m): 8:10pm On Mar 29, 2025 |
dettolgel:Lmao what has what I believe got to do with anything? What does "lobbying" mean to you? You can offer all you want, doesn't matter if the UK government don't want to do it |

melodyogonna:The truth is that if FG put pressure the UK government has no choice but to do it. Do you remember how some embassies were pressured into opening offices in Abj? Who do you think the UK embassy in Nigeria pays more Nigeria or UK government? |
| Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by melodyogonna(m): 10:12am On Mar 30, 2025 |
dettolgel:Embassy is different to a consulate |
| Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by IGBOPROMISE1: 1:22pm On Mar 30, 2025 |
melodyogonna:True! From my understanding of diplomatic relations, High Commissions and Embassies are the headquarters of countries diplomatic presence in another country and are usually in the capital of the country. Whereas consulates can be located in other prominent cities of a country and handle cultural (soft diplomacy) and visa application issues. |
| Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by dettolgel: 7:14pm On Mar 30, 2025 |
melodyogonna:That is not even an embassy but a kiosk for visa processing. FG and state government if they are interested in keeping that service running in the east they will do it. The point is our government are not interested in doing it. Out here do you know how many services states have to keep running, even when it is not cost effective just to ensure that their citizens get the required services without much trouble? |
| Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by melodyogonna(m): 1:38pm On Apr 04, 2025 |
IGBOPROMISE1:Yup. So when Peter Mbah came on he decided he wanted one in Enugu, when the British embassy agreed to open it they said it would only remain open in permanent basis if they get enough traffic. that is, enough visa applications in the 3 months period. Nobody announced numbers they were targeting or anything, I just assume it wasn't reached. Which would not be all that surprising tbh, International travel became very expensive during Buhari's presidency. |
| Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by melodyogonna(m): 1:42pm On Apr 04, 2025 |
dettolgel:Lol, for one thing, I don't think FG has anything to do with this. Secondly, what do you mean state government didn't want it? Didn't Mbah take the initiative to lobby the British government for the consulate? When you're negotiating you need to have something the other party wants, that is leverage. In this instance the only leverage we could have is application numbers, that didn't exist. Maybe if Peter Mbah succeeds in building up our industries we could attract investments that would warrant international traffic (to UK), then maybe we could try lobbying Britain again. Anyway, it's probably more worthwhile to trying getting Chinese or American consulate |
| Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by dettolgel: 2:48pm On Apr 04, 2025 |
melodyogonna:The bolded is where you are wrong. We have a lot to dangle before them. Do you know of the illegal coal and other mines in Enugu that the Chinese are operating? I am sure if we hand it over to the British they won't reject it ![]() Consulate services have never been about number bro. It has always been about interest and reciprocity |

CNG air-conditioned (ntu oyi) buses arrive Enugu. There will be 200 of them. The BRT scheme is well thought out and customers would be made to acquire personalised smartcards, similar to the Oyster cards used for public travel in London, which they will touch on smartcard readers on the buses while boarding. I hope the readers would also be enabled to take payments from regular credit/debit cards of passengers smartphones. The state gov't plans to restrict keke and private minibuses to certain neigbourhoods of the city and keep them off the major roads. IGBOPROMISE1:I wish the money was spent on vehicle manufacturing company/companies in the region, and the companies learn to buy from Enugu, in mutually beneficial (buy from me and I buy from you) manner. Ofcourse, this is one of the reasons the states don't usually patronize one another. But it has to be discouraged and there should a deliberate policy to encourage good customer service and high quality products, which is another reasons there is lack of strong patronage amongst the states. But if the Governor couldn't patronize them because of lack of needed features, less quality products/customer services or for affordability sake, then I respect his choice. I hope the region gradually move away from this craze for foreign products. They should patronize countries that patronize the region, better still, the countries they patronize should patronize the region also. |

In regards to the issue of lack of embassy or something like that, what you need more are hubs for exporters and importers. It's not wise to travel out for greener pasture when you can make your region better than where you are running to work in. But I respect those who travel for the sake of developing Eastern region rather than to enjoy or selfish reasons. It's better to use that money you earn here or abroad to build industries, good schools, real estate etc, than building private mansions or things that only benefit you. The governor should continue from where Stella Odua stopped or even make it far better. I remember she tried developing a section for exporters in Enugu airport. I wonder how far they have gone with that. You need such thing more for export and import |
