BREAKING NEWS: Rivers State Speaker Faces Recall as Constituents Begin Legal Process https://247ureports.com/2025/03/breaking-news-rivers-state-speaker-faces-recall-as-constituents-begin-legal-process/ - Rivers State is currently witnessing a major political upheaval as constituents of the Obio/Akpor State Constituency have initiated recall proceedings against Martin Amaewhule, the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly. The move follows escalating discontent among the residents, who have formally petitioned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the recall process to begin. On March 7, 2025, a legal notice signed by lawyer Kenneth Amadi, representing the constituents, was submitted to the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Rivers State. The letter requests the release of the verified voter register for the Obio/Akpor Federal/State Constituency, a necessary step in initiating the recall process under Nigerian law. A stamp on the acknowledgment copy shows that INEC received the letter on March 11, 2025. |

Not practicable because the law requires over 50% of registered voters to sign the recall which is near impossible |

There is foolishness and there is delusion. It seems as if the Fubara camp act without thinking or are getting advice from daft people. Every step they have taken so far has backfired. Do you know what it takes to recall an elected official? Let me break it down to you. Everybody who has registered since 1999 is on the electoral register. Including those who have moved to other states, but not bothered to change their polling unit, those who have japad and those who are dead. The law now says you must gather 50% of them to recall an elected official. Do you not realize how mathematically impossible that is? The number of people that voted in the elections for all candidates is usually less than 20% of the registered voters and you think you can gather signatures of 50% of the registered voters for a recall. Do you know what it took in funds and campaigns to get the 20% to come out to vote? ….and you think you can locate 50% of the registered voters and if you do they will agree to sign the recall notice? Do you know how hard it is to get a voter to sign a recall notice? When voting I have to go to the polling unit, when recalling you have to come to my house to get my signature. Honestly there is something in the water they are giving Fubara supporters to drink. Below is an example from 2016 of the registered voters of the speaker’s LGA and the actual number of people who voted Finally don’t forget this is Wike’s local government. Even if everyone is alive and you can get to them, you can’t get 50% in Wike’s stronghold.
