In my home town they still banish.. but in a different way... After communicating it to you, in three days you will meet box of matches by your compound entrance or door step.. ND your family will b announced to have been banished..

Now to practicalize it, no member of the village will b tolerated to have any relationship with you, including members of your family, no one talks , eat , associates or work with you.. that way, u are forced to leave, yet no one will take your land.. no one will take over your house...Until the specified number of years is complete, then you come back home or palace and make peace.. ND every association of the people ban is lifted...

This is why it is extremely difficult for outsiders to buy land in Alaigbo but they keep denying this fact.
An irresponsible person will always look for reasons not to be responsible.

I wonder how many lands those who are from Ekiti that came to Lagos and hide are buying in Ekiti.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

This is very bad if true. Very bad of the community.

But.

I have seen cases like this where the said man is the thorn on the flesh of his whole community, attacking, arresting, blackmailing and sabotaging the peace of the community for so long, sheltering at the next village where they have land case with his community. The community sponsoring him later killed him, and because he had been going to the police to allege threats to his life by his community, the police are trying to arrest members of his community.
Shebi na Igbo you be. Na una way.

If I buy a land anywhere and later discovered an Igbo man is the owner of the land next to me, I'll sell that land. There's no way you won't have problems with him because he'll definitely try to encroach into your land even if it's by a feet.

I think the BENis have one of the best property sharing amongst siblings. It's straight forward and you can call the intervention of the traditional council when the elders are taking sides. They hardly take sides due to fear of untimely death from the sceptre of the family.

There are atrocities one will commit, the community will banish the person.
Even your constitution frowns at those atrocities!

LIAR.
Unfortunately, this is very common in igbo land.
Distant relatives use this opportunity to seize land belonging to your father which he worked hard for.

It happened to me, this is why I say this with confidence. It took me 15 years to sort the matter out. I spent a lot of money and involved police, army, efcc , courts, African traditional religion, cults. I had to be constantly on the move.
They promised to kill me and my 4 brothers. But in the end we all survived and most of them are dead or debilitated now.
Our hands were clean and baba God saw everything.
God pass all of them.

We have heard one side of the story, let's wait and hear the other side. What I know is that before an Igbo community agrees to banish you, check yourself very well

When an environment is littered with guns and violent sadistic people due to indoctrination, life becomes very cheap in the area. No thanks to Nnamdi Kanu who have made the youths killers via his terrorists ideology disguised as liberation movement.

THIS IGBO CULTURE IS OUTDATED. THEY NEED TOTAL OVERHAULING. BANISHING A CITIZEN FROM HIS HOMETOWN IS SACRILEGE. NO ONE HAS THE RIGHT TO TAKE THE LIFE OF FELLOW HUMAN. IT IS HIGH TIME GOVERNMENT TAKE CHARGE

Till tomorrow my community will banish depending on the crime especially of strangers.

But killing, in whatever name is a heinous act and condemnable. Everyone found culpable should be made to get it back woto wotoly

In southeast is normal, is constitutional and no amount of civilization can change this. Nothing will change the ways, they do things during their forefathers days.
