AHH this one. grin grin

I feel people just like to complain about shït especially when it's a largely unknown and well liked actor helming these radical changes.

Nerdrotic's only way of praising a movie/series, is by not talking about it. Once it appears in his channel, it's getting bashed

I remember when people dey halla that year pretending to have read The Sandman and know the lore when they were screaming about the reason why Lucifer was changed to a female with the Gwendoline Christie casting. Loud mouths were oblivious of the fact that Lucifer was more of an hermaphrodite (neither male nor female) and rather looked effeminate in some comic drawings, in fact in some comic strips Lucy looked almost identical to Christie. grin grin

Or forgot the fact that De@th, Lucifer and Morpheus takes the shape of what you imagined them to be as their appearance to mortals.

Everybody go dey alright las las.
Gangster Snape no be bad idea
Harry Potter and the Fresh Prince of Bel air.

Honestly that race swapping is annoying, but like you said, sometimes, they do it so well, you'll just flow with it.

I was pissed when I heard that a black man would play Jim Gordon in The Batman, but Jeffrey Wright did his thing, and no one complained afterwards.

It works sometimes (Velaryons, De@, Nick Fury, Aquaman.........), and fails other times (Ariel, Velma, several characters in Rings of Power, Snow White....).

Will the audience accept a Black Snape? The odds are low at the moment, but let's see if the gamble pays off at the end

Ryan Coogler's Sinners is the first movie I plan to see in cinema this year but considering the speed at which new movies are dropping on streaming or digital, why should I squander 7k at the cinemahuh

Because I can bet that before the end of May, a digital version of Sinners will available for download.

Die hard indeed 🤦🏿‍♂️....are you trying to be an obtuse bellend on purpose? Bring out a text from the book since you are a diehard fan, that explicitly say he his white...No? You rushed to bring an A.I generative hogwash that describes vague features that neither improve your point nor educate us any further in general on the subject matter, than what we already know...

And i even explicitly stated that the casting wasn't worth the trouble, it will bring, or it's obviously bringing now going by this your rabid reaction....man unclench your butt cheeks....i didn't do the casting and this your rant is totally misdirected...🤦🏿‍♂️.
I will reply with the utmost respect that you decided not to offer me. I don't need to explain to you OF ALL PEOPLE to prove I'm a die-hard fan - Harry Potter is literally the only franchise I care the most about and I have said it multiple times on this page and it is the only franchise I traveled to a different country to visit its world. You probably have NEVER picked up the books in your life or read a single page. I could write a whole essay on the reasons why it is a bad idea not even because he's black. When the rumour was spreading I was literally the first to say here it could be a good idea since Rickman was too iconic to copy but then I decide to think more about it.
But if they are going to adapt the books with perfection as the producers said, making a black Snape is literally the worst idea possible giving the history of Snape and the insanely bad things he did in the books! No matter how they try to separate the character from his skin color it would always come BACK! That literally destroys the type of escapism the Wizarding World offers. I can't explain further because this will be really long. I can understand your point - you don't see it as anything because you're not attached to the franchise.
The OG of Harry Potter Youtubers (someone you wont call racist as usual) made a video explaining the reasons it is a bad idea, he'll explain than I will hopefully

While I 100% do not agree with the casting, oyaskii isn't wrong. The book doesn't indicate his race, neither did your post
Only 4% of black individuals have a large, hooked nose but anyways that's not the point! The casting itself is abysmal . They don't need to follow the skin color but the idea is vital!

I don't even understand the uproar with so many people about this casting..... especially when it's from HBO who has the track record of handling this sort of diversity issue with finesse.

I can very well recall HBO doing this same thing 3 years ago and all hell let loose on the internet.......but the final product having come out this past few years and everyone has already forgotten about the black ensemble cast of the Velaryons in House of The Dragon. This would probably be no different.

Besides, it's a fictional character. Make all this fake rage dié down. I'm not enthusiastic about the casting myself but I'll wait for the final product and judge. They've done it before and it didn't impact the enjoyment of the story rather brought more audience and discussions about the characters.

Also, not all adaptation should be like for like...... looking for copy and paste, you can just as well read the Original. That's the beauty that has brought us varieties we didn't know we wanted like Michael Keaton's Batman, Christian Bale's and Robert Pattinson's. Same character, different iterations and style.

What makes these arguments even ironic to me is the fact that the very authors & creators of these books are very much involved in the projects and okayed the decisions, how much more we the viewers? People cried about Neil Gaiman's The Sandman's De@th being cast as a black yet everyone quickly forgot about this squabble once the TV show premiered.

So, I say, let's give the showrunners the benefit of the doubt and see the finished product.
Except the crux of the matter is just down to the fact of Purism.

My two cents. ✌🏽
All you mean to say is you're not connected to the story. It's just like me giving my two cents on Star Wars when I don't know anything about the story. HP fans with childhood nostalgia hate the casting not because they are racist but because it affects the whole reason behind Snape's story

Snape was a poor and bullied boy as a child
He was bullied and humiliated by the guys in the in crowd
He found a female friend and caught feelings for her
The friend found him toxic and got with the bullies

A nasty wizard started a cult.
Snape joined the cult because it gave him feelings of power and a place to belong.

Things got out of hand when his leader went after his crush.

Because Snape had never actually gotten over her, Dumbledore was able to use this to make snape his inside man

Snape spent the next decade watching over the son of the guy who chanced him

This story can apply to people of any race or color. When you consider the fact that there were not that many blacks shown in the Wizarding world a minority black snape who is an outcast and bullied as a child us an easy sell.

Don't know what your 'ultimate Fandom' of Harry potter has to do with this.

Me too bruh..... SINNERS is looking really attractive to me. And I might cop that before entering summer season.

This early access of movies on digital is truly a deterrent to seeing movies in theatres man. Except it's a project you're really invested in and don't really care.
In this kind economy wey everybody pocket dey collect wotowoto, to spend premium money for an experience wey people go soon tap for free within a month's time dey pain sha.

EXACTLY MY POINT!!! Dont you guys understand? It applies to every race but it deters from the original purpose of the story itself. The story isn't about race but most casual viewers will always pinpoint race on its telling

You literally went hard with your reply like i did the casting, hence i had to return the favour, because if you grab my entire piece, you could clearly see that i was leaning against the casting altogether.

Again, they have made the casting, so just allow. Paapa Essiedu isn't a bad actor, and he has done a fine job in another HBO production in the past. So if he goes on to kill the role, you wouldn't acknowledge or see it, just because he his black? Common on mann....You should be better than this 😩.

likeee!...Well i guess it's the sign of the time. People are generally just angry, anything you do upsets a certain crowd, and people are a short fuse away from been lit and just rage baiting like their lives depends on it. YouTube cinephile commentary pages have not put down their ring light since the casting was made, hustling for views and stream revenue in the guise of been "angry" 😩.

For a fantasy feature, i don't think HBO has committed the worst crime in history...like you said, let the final product come out, and let the lad be judged on his performance and not his skin colour ✌🏿.

I've learned to dissociate and not put any importance to internet rage and angry groups. Cos all I see is hypocrites who don't put their money where their mouth is.

Biggest pretenders of them all; I remember some months ago last year when big man Zaslav planned to kill off the Looney Tunes movie and people where enraged, saying it will do well in theatres; they'd kill to see the film, WB is incompetent.....bla bla blaa

Fast forward to last week and the very same movie is available in theatres to watch as it was sold to another studio and just watch the abysmal performance of that film in cinemas despite the humongous press and rage about the said film being shelved for tax write off.

Oya make Una turn up for the film....zilch nada.....just vibes and insha'Allah with online noise and echo chamber where everyone pretends to be noble and protectors of "cinema".

Yea, it did debut recently in a few markets outside China and is still going to release in more markets cos the hype is getting other distributors and the production studio to release it in more markets.

China has $2.05bn of the total accumulated $2.09bn so far. Including $20mn in US week 3. #7 animation movie box office ever for non-english fare.

WB is handling distribution in S/East Asia. Another distributor releases in UK this Friday amid good preview numbers. And 36 more European countries soon to follow in the weeks to come.

So it's hype and sheer box office stardom will propel it to more markets with people curious what this is all about especially with the Hollywood releases having a slow start to 2025.
Better to join the hype train with the biggest potential presently.

Lmao.... Money laundering keh??

You people think China market is a low tier one? China is the second largest theatrical market in the world behind ONLY the US (which weirdly combines Canada too).

I mean even Hollywood were running to China for help and happily with glee enjoying the richness of the market not until after COVID where Chinese audience now focus more on their domestic films and less Hollywood movies. Reason why Hollywood films have been struggling in the market and overall global box office gross.

In the past, China is more than enough to save a movie from bombing if it underperformed in the US. Films like Fast and Furious franchise won't be the juggernaut it is now if not for the Chinese market.

Besides, Ne Zha is a very popular character in Chinese culture and holds significant sociocultural relevance to the country. So they'd surely go all out for it. The original film grossed $750mn in China so this isn't all too surprising the sequel is doing so well following the success of the predecessor.

I can remember good number of us who watched the part one around 2019-2020 back then on this very thread. So it's not really as obscure as you think.
A market with 1.4bn people, I mean this shouldn't be too surprising from an economic powerhouse such as China.
