Diya ended his military career with a k leg when major Al mustapha said he soiled his trousers when abacha condemned him and the other coup plotters to death. Diya and co were indeed lucky it wasn't Ibb. He'd have massacred them all.

We all know what he's trying to pitch.
A shame he didn't do his research well.
Typical eboe dead brain.
Just because Diya was a bit more prominent in the picture automatically means he's more senior to Abacha? Is that how their brains work?
You are equally guilty of this and more. You must be new here to refer to richtaiwo as "eboe". Both of you have the same thing in common but you are the bigger tribalist

From the picture, Abacha's rank isn't clear but it appears like an Eagle and a star, which is the rank of a liuetenant colonel. Also, he was not wearing red neck. But Diya was clearly a brig gen, with his red neck very conspicuous. Lastly, in the military, the senior ones are always at the front in any gathering. All these indicate Diya was superior to Abacha.

But how come Abacha became head of state and Diya was his superior agreed to be in Abacha cabinet and taking orders from him?
well done. I sense some tribalistic myopia in your post.

as at 1985, Abacha was the GOC of 2nd Div Ibadan. it was even clearly stated in the story.

since you know so much about military tradition, where have you seen a Lt. Col serving as GOC of 2nd Div Ibadan?

where have you seen a Lt. Col serving as a GOC?

Also Abach was the chief of Army staff during Gen Buhari's administration. And Abacha was the only person then who completed all the ranks as a Commissioned officer from 2nd lieutenant to General without skipping any rank.
Abacha was not Chief of Army Staff under Buhari. he was GOC 2nd Div Ibadan.

IBB was chief of army staff under Buhari

As at the Dec 1983 coup, Diya was still a Colonel while Abacha was already a Brigadier. Those days, the appelation was Brigadier, not Brigadier-General.

Take it from me who heard the actual coup broadcast that fateful Saturday morning when I was out shopping with my dad. Everyone was huddled around their car and transistor radios.

This picture was taken during Head of State Buhari's visit to Ogun State in 1985.
That was 30 years before T-Pain made him APC messiah of change, only to confirm that he was and remains Obasanjo’s clueless olodo as master of shege.

What else do you think was T-Pain’s motivation for transforming his CPC expired soldier of 2011 into APC president four years later, apart from his ebilokan turn by turn zoning and rotation dream of 2023 huh

Emergingnation:
Flashback: How Bola Tinubu spoke highly of Buhari in 2015, named PDP ‘Poverty Development Party

National leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu had during the presidential campaign in 2015, referred to President Muhammadu Buhari as the only solution for the security and economic challenges facing Nigeria.

During a mega presidential rally, the former governor of Lagos State recalled how some powerful nations in the world returned to army generals when they were challenged, saying “Major General Buhari would revive Nigeria’s economy”.

He named the current opposition People’s Democratic Party, PDP as the “Poverty Development Party saying they had nothing to offer.

His words at the time were; “Every nation has a period of their own challenges, when America was challenged, they turned to one great man, their ex-military general, General Eisenhower. When the French were challenged, they turned to their general, Charles de Gaulle.

“When Britain was challenged, they turned to their general. Today, Nigeria is economically and physically challenged so we turn to General Muhammadu Buhari. He is the right man for the job. If you talk about military experience, he has it abundantly, he has courage, simplicity, he has it abundantly.

“If you talk about great determination, a combination of vision and ability to perform, honesty and integrity, he has it abundantly.

“I laugh when the incapable government, ‘Poverty Development Party’ PDP were talking. They have nothing again to say, they now want to question the qualifications of General Buhari and look for his certificate”.

Following the manifestos in 2015 which projected the APC presidential candidate as a ‘saviour’, Buhari defeated the then incumbent president, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan with Nigerians expecting a total change in security and economy.

Abacha became a brigadier general in 1980 and a major General in 1984. At the time of this picture he was a major general! When Abacha later became CoAS, Diya was a GOC.

What an irony! This same Diya would later conspire to assassinate Abacha in a failed coup. Diya would later be seen in a video clip sobbing and begging for forgiveness before Abacha, who handed the pitiable yoruba general an hanky to wipe away his tears. Abacha, being a humane leader, God bless him, spared Diya from the usual inevitable execution for coup plotters. Contrast this with Babangida who had his best friend General Mamman Vatsa executed in what's now regarded as a spurious allegation against Vatsa. Even the then No.3 general in the Babangida regime, the late plateau state-born General Donkat Bali, would later admit that Vatsa was executed unjustly as there was no evidence linking him with the coup. Babangida had 27 officers executed at a time. Vatsa is gone, but the villain who had him killed is now in a near vegetative state and will inevitably join Vatsa yonder for God's judgment.
Ngbatee press would always paint Abacha black, accusing him of all sorts of atrocities. But looking down memory lane you won't fail to acknowledge how God protected Abacha till his peaceful demise (ngbatee bigot would afterwards plant the lie about the circumstances leading to his demise). Very dubious/treacherous people, even today. Kudirat Abiola plotted with other people to assassinate Abacha but their evil plot boomeranged and the rest his history. Rest on the great general.
No matter what you say JAGABAN presidency has corrected it all I dare anyone from your flat head lineage to try rubbish even the abacha or ibb, but the truth is jagaban forgives he is not a vengeful man

The same thing you should ask T-Pain for asslicking Fulanis at the expense of his own Yoruba tribe and his fellow southerners.

When Funke Olakurin, daughter of Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti was murdered instead of Bola Tinubu to make sure that the perpetrators were brought to book, he ended up making fun of the death of the young lady by turning everything into tribalism by showing his hates for Igbos.

Tinubu has never spoken against the deadly activities of Fulani herdsmen across the country

Mrs Olakunrin died of gunshot wounds in July 2019 after her vehicle was attacked by armed men, suspected to be marauding Fulani bandits whose violent activities had reached a frightening level across the southwest states.

Those arrested suspects include Lawal Mazaje, 40, from Felele area of Kogi State; Adamu Adamu, 50, from Jada area of Adamawa State; Mohammed Usman, 26, from Illela area of Sokoto State and Auwal Abubakar, 25, from Shinkafi area of Zamfara State....

However, the leader of the team, identified only as Tambaya, and three others are yet to be found.

Tambaya has been declared wanted by the police and he is said to be capable of communicating in Hausa, Fulfude and Pidgin English.

look again . To the left hand side of the picture, there you'll see the Abacha with the red insignia cap and putting on his signature dark goggle , just by buhari's right hand side.

@richtaiwo, if you had read the text and not just looked at the picture, it clearly states their ranks.

As for positioning, Diya was the host governor, Buhari was head of state.
