Hi everyone. Interesting thread! Quick question
As a prospective PhD student, are we required to pay tuition every single academic year that the program spreads across?
Most phd are free.

I have been following this thread since 2022 and got alot of inspiration and insights. I have started the PhD Journey!

My concern now is how to combine work and study.

BSc Computer Science & Math( FUAM,2012)
MSc Information Technology ( NOUN, 2023)
PhD Management Information Technology (ATBU,2027)

Ok sir/ma. Please go ahead.
Thank you. Here are my questions:

1. How long is the program in terms of semester and months?

2. How often do one have to attend physically, is it just during exams or there are physical classes and labs too?

3. For the parts that are physical, whether exams, classes or labs, are they done on weekdays or weekends? Also where are these located?

4. How much approximately did everything cost and do you have to pay everything once? (I know the cost would have increased but I just want to get an idea)

5. For someone working in tech with engineering background, what's the difficulty level of the course and prospect in boosting one's career?

6. What's your experience since you got the degree? Is it given same respect as that of traditional universities?
Re: Thread For PHD Students by cotmag(m):
1. It depends on you and what you can take. I spent 3 semesters for my coursework and a semester to prepare for defense. I started my thesis in the last semester of coursework.

2. 3 - 4 semesters. In terms of months, check the school's academic calendar.

3. I did physical exams. There is also E- exams if you want. There is also what the school call "on-line facilitation" for some practical inclined courses.

4. I can't remember this, vividly. However, I think it should be around 250k in all.

5. If you work in tech and have programming or IT experience, you shouldn't have any problem at all.

6. Respect? I didn't finish with a distinction but I did well. The degree is recognised globally as I have used it to secure admissions in some foreign universities ( some with partial funding). You can source for more info from the school. Visit their website or study centre for more info.

On a lighter note, studying in NOUN isn't for the faint - hearted. You must study very hard as you you will be given so many rich study materials.
I got an Msc admission in a Fed. Uni but for work schedules, I resorted to NOUN and I enjoyed every bit of it.

Good day guys,
I am rounding up a Masters programme in Environmental Management soon and I am looking out to start a Ph.D.
Issues is I chose this course due to time-constraint as I am well aware of the fact that it is a professional Masters' hence making it difficult to get Ph.D admissions but I want to know if I can get any directions.

Thank yall

Japa Without 'Had I Known': The Real Money You'll Spend

Hello everyone,

We all want to japa, but let's be real, the official tuition is just the beginning. I've seen too many people start the process and get stranded because they didn't budget for the hidden costs. This is how "had I known" stories start.

Let's talk about the real money you need in your account, in Naira:

* Visa Fees & Biometrics: For a Canadian student visa, you're looking at roughly ₦240,000 (CAD $235), including biometrics.
For the UK, it’s about ₦700,000 (£490). These fees are non-refundable, so you can't afford to get it wrong.

* Proof of Funds: This is the biggest hurdle for many. As of recent policy changes, Canada requires you to show at least ₦18.5 million (CAD $20,635) for a year of living expenses on top of your tuition.

The UK demands around ₦1.9 million (£1,334) per month for those living in London. If you don't show this, your application is a non-starter.

* Mandatory Health Insurance: Many people forget this one. For example, some universities in the US charge over ₦3 million ($2,000) for a single year of student health insurance, and it's not optional.

Don't let these surprises derail your dream. For a full, step-by-step breakdown of these and other costs, get a copy of our "Ultimate Japa Master Plan" ebook.
