This Boy Had Been Abandoned By His Parents by Villa12(op):
Hello Nairalanders

I noticed a student had measles all over his body. It was visible all over his hands and face. I approached him and he confirmed my suspicious. He hadn't received any medication so far. I notified the Head of School, then he informed the school principal and the boy was instructed to return home for proper treatment to prevent spreading the disease to other students. It's a public secondary school

As the boy walked away, i saw tears dropping down his face, i approached him and he shared his life story. He lives in an uncompleted house with his grandmother who is battling stroke. His biological mother a unisex fashion designer had him out of wedlock and has hated him since birth. She remarried and had 4 other sons. The grandmother called his mother concerning his illness and she warned her mother never to call her again concerning her son, even if he died. The boy is in SS1 science, very smart, brilliant and was instrumental in the success of our inter House sports competition. I told the HOS how can the school send this boy home without enquiry if he has the means for treatment. He claimed it's a public school and that is what they can do. I took him to a local herbal, the woman asked him to off his clothes, the measles had messed up his body. She gave him something to drink and then prepared the medication (bathing soap, the one he'd rob on his body and the one he'd drink twice daily) . She charged me #20,000 for everything. I gave the boy some little cash and reminded him to follow the prescription.

He returned to school after two weeks almost fully recovered. This boy biological mother had a brother, who's an uncle to him. The grandmother had two children, the boy biological mother and the uncle. He lives with his uncle alongside his grandmother. The uncle has been the one supporting the boy. The uncle died last year in a ghastly road accident leading to
the grandmother's stroke. This boy stopped going to school due to her health condition. When the workload was too much for the boy, their neighbour called the grandmother daughter to come carry her mother. She brought her to her house with the boy. He enrolled the boy in a government school after several plea from her mother while her other 4 sons attend private school. This woman do lock him outside on a several occasions leaving him with physical and emotional scans. One fateful day, the boy prepared dinner late (around 7pm) for the family and she descended on him mercilessly and sent him and her mother packing. That was what led them living in an uncompleted house. I observed he's fund of wearing collar clothes under his collar uniform and i tried to know the reason. He said his mother tore all his singlet while beating him. I got him 2 singlet which he has been wearing.

Surprisingly, I've heard about this boy and his grandmother before meeting him. This boy biological mother is a unisex fashion designer. My neighbour son is learning there. He usually relate how mean and inhumane his madam was to her son. The husband comes home every weekend and he do take his children and wife out while the boy will be home doing chores. The husband has no problem with the boy but his wife warned him to stay clear from her son. This my neighbour son said a lot about this boy and how his mother do maltreat him. The boy hasn't divulge all these to me and will be surprised how I got to know so much about him.

The boy told me the grandmother wants to see me. I shared it with a close friend of mine and he said what if the grandmother now sees me as her son? What if the grandmother wants me to be the boy's guardian? What if the grandmother probably wants me to help them thinking i have? I'm a PTA teacher earning below the national minimum wage. This boy has no family
members to run to. He doesn't know any family members apart from his grandmother, late uncle and biological mother. He claimed his biological father is late. What if the grandmother eventually passes away? What will be the fate of this little boy? I don't know if i should meet the grandmother or not.

What's your take please

Something has touched you to help this boy and I say follow it.

You should meet with the grandmother, she can not force you to do what you can not do.

Be firm and simply help in any little way you can.

Thank God the boy is in SS 1 and not a tender boy who can not help himself at all, the fact that he is brilliant is a plus.

With some guidance, he could find something he could do after school to help him out.

If you can also think of anything which he can do, you could point it out.

He just needs some guidance at this point in his life and I believe he would be grateful to you for that.

The boy grandma may want to handover her grandson to you since the only son who care for them is late. You yourself needs help but you didn't let that discourage you, I love that about you. You can go and see her. God will bless you as you're striving to help someone in need.

Quite an unfortunate one there. Maybe you should just go hear the grandmother out and then go from there. Even if she offers that you take custody of the boy and you have to decline, it is still ok to listen to her. 😩😩😩

I don't think seeing her is all that necessary. The woman might want op to take custody of the boy which might not be possible considering op financial status as a PTA teacher. She might also want to appreciate op for what he has done for the boy. Seeing her is not a big issue but turning her demand down is the problem which is preventable by not seeing her

I have heard stories like this in the past. While some of the kids turned out well, others didn't. This is an example of how stupid and mean some people are.

Even if the father of the kid raped her, must the kid pay for his father's actions? If you have a way to report that wicked woman to any NGO, please go ahead. Abandoning her kid with an old woman with no source of livelihood is the height of it.

Nonetheless, there could more to the story, and you will know more if you hear the grandmother out. You could be the boy's saviour, you know. Go and visit the woman, and try to update us.

The mother is very heartless and wicked.

If you can meet the grandmother, meet her and give her audience. Perhaps she just wants to thank you for how you've helped the boy's measles. In case she wants you to be the boy's guardian, you don't have to agree to anything you can't do, but at least meet her and hear what she wants to tell you.

I doubt if this exist in Nigeria. So many children in Nigeria had been abandoned by their mother/father without being arrested. Op can only get her arrested if she continues abusing the boy physically which i guess she must have stopped doing that since she has sent him and her mother packing. They know Ngeria is a lawless country, that is why they can do anyhow and go scot free.

Don't mind him. There is no boy anywhere. This has always been his own way in the scamming game.

OP mentioned scars … lives in an incompleted building . Everyone has a phone . If you want to bring attention to an issue . I would take pictures to show the HOS of the terrible living conditions and of grandma. … anyways that’s just me.

you have a point. I'm considering the boy's image appearing in the public. Not even the old woman.
