N72,000 compensation: Wike knocks FCDA boss, threatens sack

ABUJA: Federal Capital Territory FCT minister, Nyesom Wike has threatened to sack the Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority FCDA, Engr. Richard Dauda over allegations by residents of Gishiri community that some of their houses were valued at N72,000.

The Arterial Road N16 currently under construction, passes through a corridor in Gishiri community in Katampe District. However, contractors handling the project had recently met a brick wall following unresolved issues of compensation and relocation of 455 residents whose houses were affected.

Speaking at a mini stakeholders meeting on Monday in Abuja, Wike who was very livid with the FCDA boss said he had heard some unpleasant stories and would not hesitate to wield the big stock.

He said; “Go and pay people their money, the exact amount. The one I approved cause I’m hearing so many things. If you are doing any deal and I find out, you will regret it. Cause I’m hearing so many things. Give people their normal money. The day I hear such things again, you will tell me how. I will remove you from there.

“Government does not pay compensation based on where you come from. Compensation is based on who has papers there. It is not I am Igbo for example, I have papers, but I won’t pay you. If a road is passing through your land, you deserve to be paid. Nobody should be denied because they are non-indigenes”.

Youth leader of Gishiri community, Umaru Godwin had accused Engr. Dauda of violating the Minister’s instructions concerning their relocation.

He alleged that contrary to ministerial directives, the embattled ES had proposed a water-logged environment for the affected residents, saying no structure could be built in such a land.

Another community member, Princess Juliet Jonah alleged that the victims were protesting because the ES offered N72, 000 per building to them.

The minister threatened to remove Dauda from office if any fraudulent activities were uncovered.
