CodeTemplar:It is not, if your roof is facing North for instance you will get very poor production the further North you go because Nigeria is in the Northern hemisphere. For Nigeria the optimal direction is a south facing roof. The next best is west or east facing. West gives you better production in the evening and east better production in the morning. If your roof type is the very steep angled send down the rain type roof and you live in Lagos, your production will be drastically reduced. The ideal angle of your roof is the angle of the latitude of your location. The more your roof deviates from that angle the lower your production. In Lagos the latitude is 6 degrees. If you install solar on a a send down the rain roof in Lagos, you will always struggle to get good production. The further north you go the better it becomes with the same roof angle. This is science. That’s why the location direction and elevation of the roof matters when giving production figures. As an example, below is the estimated yearly production of a 10kw system facing south with 45, 15 and 6 degree angles. The highest production is at a 6 degree angle which is the latitude for Lagos. Not much difference between 6 and 15 degrees but once you start moving into steep roof territory it starts to matter significantly.

The bolded is not true. If you can not face South, face the North if there are no trees or buildings shading your panels. East and West will limit your sunlight exposure mostly to morning and evening respectively. The rest are on point. casualobserver: |
| Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by casualobserver: 3:32pm On Mar 18, 2025*. Modified: 3:48pm On Mar 18, 2025 |
adrusa:It depends on how far you are away from the equator. The further North you go the worse North facing becomes. It may not be such an issue in Southern Nigeria as we are closer to the equator. As for west and east I did mention about morning and evening light. Below is Kano north and south facing . You are right though it is almost immaterial in Lagos being near the equator. But in Kano you will lose as much as 30-40% in some months like January by facing north in addition to lower production for the year..

I am planning on moving to a grid tied solar. I currently have circa 16hrs a day from ikeja electric but their timing usually is a problem. My plan is a grid tied inverter 7.5kva felicity hybrid inverter with 120A 15kwh lithium battery also felicity 11 615w jinko solar panels(already purchased) Please help review if this viable. And is stellar mart reliable to buy the inverter and battery from? My estimated load below 1.5HP Hisense Inverter Air Conditioner 5x Fans: 185L Refrigerator: 145L Freezer: 15x 10w Bulbs Hisense 65inches 4K TV: LG 1000w 5.1ch Home Theatre: multiple 120w Chargers (Phones) Water Heater x 3 Washing machine: Dry Iron Microwave: PlayStation: Estimated Total Load Total Daily Energy: 23.4kWh/day. Night (8h): ~13.5kWh (AC, fans, fridge/freezer bulbs). Day (16h): ~9.9kWh (TV, theatre, fridge/freezer, bulbs, chargers, intermittent loads). estimated Peak Wattage: Night: ~3,075W (3.075kW). Day: ~2,964W (2.964kW managed, up to 7,650W unmanaged if all intermittent loads overlap). |

Preator:Hope you factored in inverter losses/load. You're running quite close to the capacity of your battery, maybe go with a 17kwh battery instead? |

GloryJoyeux:I've been following your submissions on this thread and I see that you have a wealth of knowledge in this area. I need your input on some choices I'm about to make. I want to install solar power for commercial purpose. I want to rely on powering my appliances from the panels instead of batteries. The main equipment is a 7.5kw industrial oven which we use and hour a day. All other appliances fall under 5kw and our plan is to not exceed cumulative of 7.5kw at any given point in time. I've recently been tilting towards purchasing 21pcs of 720w solar, 20kva inverter and 5kwh battery (as backup for small loads during late hours). I'm thinking of purchasing the panels directly from the manufacturer in china (still thinking if this is a cost effective solution). Can you advise me? Thanks |

maklelemakukula:Use kreater logistics or Hugo express; you can search for their pages on Instagram. The sea shipping will be calculated based on the cubic meter-cbm of the cargo (length x width x height). 1 cubic meter is currently between 400-450k with most shipping companies. Hope this helps |

Blackbelly:Thank you chief. Have you used them personally ? Are they reliable ? |
| Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Blackbelly(m): 10:07pm On Mar 18, 2025 |
maklelemakukula:Yea, I've used Hugo express for a little over 3 years and kreater for just about a year. Haven't had issues apart from occasional unavoidable shipping delays |

GloryJoyeux:I can't appreciate you enough for the detailed response. I was not wrong to turn to this forum for some answers! Regarding the brand, I've been very much concerned about getting a product that has good reviews from our technicians and users and that informed my choice for jinko product. I had scanned through several online stores for the 720w/730w jinko product and I was surprised to see prices that are too good to be true. The current trend of deceptive advertising and sales was another factor that inspired my interest in importing directly from the parent company. Thanks once again for your very valuable input. I'll update this post once I successfully finish this project. Many thanks 🙏 |
