So Because Obasanjo Did It, It’s Right For Tinubu To Do It? by Penguin2(op): 10:35am On Mar 19, 2025
What supporters of Tinubu has been using to defend his unconstitutional action in Rivers State is that Obasanjo did it in Plateau and Ekiti States during his tenure.

They have gone on rampage posting pages of newspapers that reported the declaration of States of Emergency in the two states and the suspension of the governors.

But the big question is, “does the fact Obasanjo carried out those actions then makes it right for Tinubu to do the same now?”

If anything, Obasanjo was president few years away from military rule. So those actions can be counted as part of military hangover early into the return to democracy.

But what is Tinubu’s excuse? That 24 years into our democracy, he’s carrying out action akin to a military dictator.

And this is someone whose one of his selling point is that he fought for democracy. Is this the tenets of democracy in his book?

Did Tinubu support Obasanjo when he declared States of Emergency in those two states then? Why would he now use same act as yardstick for his unconstitutional actions?

Does two wrongs make a right in the books of Tinubu Supporters?

Obasanjo used state of emergency like pure water

Tinubu has done the right thing. As president he shouldn't for blood shed before doing the needful

It is wicked people that are saying things should get worse before emergency is declared.

what do u mean by military hangover?

Is it that u are dull or u just throw your sense away cos u want to criticize Tinubu

Obj declared state of emergency when no bomb was detonated n just little political brouhaha but few days ago 2 bombs were detonated n the governor didn't brief the president despite it been obvious that more is to come

So tinubu should fold his hands n let things deteriorate so that mugus like u will still come n blame him of not been capable again

Obasanjo was president and had the constitutional right to do what he did.

Tinubu is president and has the constitutional right to do what he did.

I mean military hangover because Obasanjo is a retired Military General and former Head of State. So, people can understand when he exhibited some military inclination and the urge to rule by decree because he had done it before.

But what is Tinubu’s excuse?

The so called fighter for democracy plunging into undemocratic acts.

Aren’t you all ashamed?

Me I will say it over and over again, Tinubu should bow to Obidients and just allow Wike and co to finish what they started... peace will be guaranteed then and Obidients will look for who next to ruin.

So you expected the presidency to have allowed the impeachment motion against Fubara to go on?

Two wrongs dont make a right but if Tinubu is doing it based on Obasanjo doing it, then its a right.

Obasanjo is a past president and he did what he did for a reason. If Tinubu is following his footstep, then he should be right.

But at the end of the day, what matters is that Nigeria will be better and more stable if the right thing is done.

I trust Tinubu and his team to make the right call at the end of the day.
