Chinedu Abimbor: Outrage and Protests as Police Shoot and Kill Teenager at Checkpoint in Edo
The people of Edo State are demanding justice following the tragic killing of 18-year-old Chinedu Abimbor from Ekpoma, allegedly shot by police officers during a routine checkpoint operation on Wednesday.

Reports indicate that Chinedu and his younger brother were in an unregistered Mercedes-Benz when they encountered a police patrol team. The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain controversial, as different accounts have emerged. Some witnesses claim that the officers opened fire after the vehicle allegedly failed to stop, while others report that an altercation erupted, leading to Chinedu being shot multiple times in the back.

According to Moses Joel Yamu, the Edo State Police Command spokesperson, the shooting occurred around 4:40 p.m. during a joint security task force operation. Following public outrage, the police announced the immediate withdrawal of three patrol teams linked to the incident.

Amnesty International Condemns the Killing
Amnesty International has strongly condemned the killing, calling for an independent and transparent investigation to ensure that justice is served. The human rights organization has urged Nigerian authorities to prosecute those responsible in a public trial.

Mother of the Deceased Speaks Out
A heart-wrenching video has surfaced online showing Chinedu’s mother mourning the loss of her son. She recounted how she rushed to the police station upon hearing that her two sons had been taken away, only to later discover that Chinedu’s body had been deposited in the mortuary.

"What crime did he commit? That child was my pillar," she lamented.

Protests Erupt in Ekpoma
Enraged youths took to the streets of Ekpoma, marching to the police headquarters and the traditional ruler’s palace, demanding accountability. Protesters accused the police of constant harassment and brutality against young people in the area.

One of the demonstrators, Lucky Abada, shared his frustration:
"We heard that the police stopped the vehicle, but he didn’t comply immediately. That was when they shot him and took his body to the mortuary. They shot him with an AK-47!"

Another protester, Ambrose Aigbokhan, added:
"We want to know why our brother was killed. His younger brother is still in police custody. They arrested him after shooting Chinedu."

Calls for Justice and Police Reform
The killing of Chinedu Abimbor has once again ignited the conversation about police brutality in Nigeria. Activists and community leaders are demanding immediate action to hold the responsible officers accountable and prevent further extrajudicial killings.

We should learn to ask our children questions!

When a police/ solder flag me to stop,i quickly slow down and comply. I can't be arguing with someone who had been under the intense hot sun for hours..how him brain ,wan correct ?However I totally condemn the killing.

After God its authority. Police is number one instrument of Govt. So always be law abiding to avoid had I know

There's NO country in the world where its permissible to ignore Police and zoom off.

Nigerians love to boast about disobedience to Police. Yet abroad, you see them meekly to the cops with their hands behind their back.

That's how another guy refused to stop at a police point and was shot point-blank.

Punished where. They will say it's accidental discharge later.. That's after they have delayed and frustrated the case and the family involved.

The boy for just stop for them,give them the bride they want. That's all they do in checkpoints,that's why kidnappers can easily move their victims around,and not caught .

I never for once hear say police catch kidnapers for check point,but these guys move their victims from place to place
