Rivers: Ibas Was Very Much Interested In Grabbing Fubara’s Position – Abati by mohbadliveson(op): 6:13pm On Mar 20, 2025
Veteran journalist and former presidential media aide, Dr. Reuben Abati says Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), the Sole Administrator of Rivers State’s attitude showed that he was interested in grabbing the position vacated by the suspended governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara.

After declaring a state of emergency in Rivers and suspending the govenor, his deputy and the state House of Assembly, President Bola Tinubu swore in Ibas as the sole administrator of the state with the sole of mandate of forestalling breakdown of law and order in the state.

Speaking on Arise TV, Abati who had earlier advised the ex-naval chief not to accept the appointment as there is no provision for a sole administrator in the 1999 constitution said Ibas’ desperate acceptance of the position speaks clearly to the Nigerian character of ‘it is my turn’.

“Yesterday, I was advising the sole administrator yesterday not to accept that appointment but I think that I offered that opinion in vain. He himself was probably very much interested in grabbing that position but there is no provision in the 1999 constitution for the position of a sole administrator”.

“This sole administrator now quickly went to Port Harcourt and has been giving speeches saying he will work with people”.

“His enthusiastic, desperate acceptance of that position speaks fully to the Nigerian character. This ‘it is my turn and I will grab it’ attitude, whether it is legal or not”.

Dr. Abati, don't bother yourself Sir. Precedent has been set.

To capture Lagos, whenever the table turns, all the next president has to do is hear there's agbero fight in Oshodi or Third Mainland bridge and the president will declare a State of Emergency in Lagos, sack the governor and appoint General Musa Dan Fulani from Kano to take over Lagos.

Abati has earned my respect with his fair and critical look at the issues of this matter

I used to see him as being biased before but at least not on this one.

Agbado boys can go to hell with their character assassination once you say the truth

But Ibass is not at your level now
He was CNS for six years and then ambassador

If someone like you accepts such position in a desperate manner, it should be understandable but for someone of his calibre is somewhat concerning

Six months is not only for an illegality, do you know the enormous wealth that we have in our Treasury that someone that we don't know come to pilfer our wealth unchecked? I guess you will be happy if someone from Rivers becomes your governor? Most of you supporting this rubbish if this happens in the south west you will frown at it, pathetic

This is it, but honestly this is one thing I really don't fancy about Peter Obi with the way Nigeria is going, if he gets there, he would want to do things according to the constitution and to please the masses after all the nonsense this cocaine sniffing looting machine did angry

Let the sole administrator enjoy his 6months in peace,he is not the reason why Wike and fubara are behaving like a toddler

What is this old Reuben talking about?
I am against the sudden emergency take over.
But who will be in such shoes and will not call this Grace.
No campaign
No printing of posters
No spending millions of dollars on delegates
No paying visits to Traditional monarchs
Just a phone call to go and become the newest governor.
Sentiment aside.
The man is a Lucky man.
