A 42-year-old staff member of an electricity distribution company has been electrocuted while working in the Ebute Metta area of Lagos State

The incident was said to have occurred on Monday at about 8:15 pm.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement obtained by PUNCH Metro on Thursday, confirmed that the victim was reconnecting and clearing faulty electrical wires at Borno Way by Ayodele Junction when the tragic accident happened.

Hundeyin stated that the victim was rescued and rushed to the hospital for treatment but was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.

According to him, a team of detectives visited the scene, and the hospital was also visited, where the corpse was inspected, photographed, and deposited at the hospital’s morgue for autopsy.

The statement read, “On Wednesday, March 19, at about 10:15 am, a staff of an electricity distribution company reported at Yaba Division that at about 2015hrs of 17/03/25, his colleague (name withheld) ‘m’ 42, allegedly got electrocuted while reconnecting and clearing some faulty electrical wires at Borno Way by Ayodele Junction, Ebute Metta.

“He was rescued and rushed to Federal Medical Center Ebute Metta for treatment, where he was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty. Based on the report, a team of detectives visited the scene. The hospital was also visited where the corpse was inspected and photographed.”

Hundeyin added that an investigation into the incident was ongoing.

PUNCH Metro reported that an electrician identified simply as Sheni was electrocuted while fixing some wiring connections at the UNILAG Estate in the Magodo area of Lagos State.

The tragic incident occurred at about 5 pm on New Year’s Day.

Some residents in the estate were said to have requested Sheni’s service after experiencing a power outage.

The electrician thereafter mounted the pole and fixed the wiring connections when the electricity was immediately restored, electrocuting him in the process.

Two different incidents.
Are they actually trained professionals?
Cos ,lot of people call local electricians for reconnection purpose.
Necessary PPE ought to be used for such high level jobs.
May their souls R.I.P

I don’t know why on earth would a professional electrical worker go to work at night.

Will he be working with a torch in his mouth or what?

Some people can’t think.

Over familiarity makes many of us lose our lives in the technical world. Electricity is not a joke, God knows I'm not going there without isolation

This is one major reason I specialized in signals and communication...... one thing I hated about electrical was working with something invisible.... Power is essential but sometimes limits dy

What safety protocols was he following, what was the integrity of his safety equipments and who was his supervisor ? R.I.P to him though but we take a lot of dangerous things for granted in this country saying "nothing go happen"

Ps: "The incident was said to have occurred on Monday at about 8:15 pm..."

First safety breach. Once upon a time, no electrician worth his salt agreed to work at night or under wet conditions but unfortunately, hunger makes people do things they wouldn't ordinarily do

"The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement obtained by PUNCH Metro on Thursday, confirmed that the victim was reconnecting and clearing faulty electrical wires at Borno Way by Ayodele Junction when the tragic accident happened"

No NEPA staff with sense will agree to reconnect and clear faulty wires at night except he's on illegal duty and the victim most likely got killed by compromised gloves or pliers

Hmmm ....he works for the distribution company but he was not on duty. Report stated he was called by local residents .... not sent by the company. Likely he was trained and knew how to reconnect ... but I guess didn't have the safety equipment and thought it wasn't needed because there was no electricity. Hmmmm .......he risks some people take.
