FG Commissions Hybrid Electric Vehicle Charging Station In Abuja by Newsreel24(op): 6:59am On Mar 21, 2025
Director General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, ECN Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi ENSE has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the unwavering support towards the completion of a Hybrid Electric Vehicle Charging Station, situated in the nation's capital, Abuja.

Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi ENSE stated this during the grand commissioning event which took place on Thursday 20 March 2025. The commissioning had in attendance the Honourable Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji alongside other Director Generals present.

The DG ECN, Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi ENSE, in his address at the occasion, informed the gathering that the project is an Electric Vehicle Charging Station designed for sustainable running, to stand the test of time.

"It is a 5.5kilowatt Solar-Powered facility that has capacity to run on both power supply from the public grid when preferred, as well as Solar PV. It is designed with a 10kilowatt Lithium Battery and 8kVA intelligent inverter, to ensure quick charging, maintainability and, in view of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration's local content policy, lithium will soon be available as a raw material to support battery production in Nigeria."

According to Dr. Abdullahi, "This project is in line with the presidential declaration on climate change, Nigerian clean energy policy, towards net-zero GHG emissions, through the use of solar energy, transitioning towards low-carbon economy and reducing our dependence on fossil fuels in the transport sector."

He noted that the design is a fast-charging technology; a typical electric vehicle (EV) will be fully charged in about 30 minutes. But this facility can concurrently charge four vehicles, both
compatible ones and generic products.

The DG ECN appreciated the Honourable Minister, Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji for his unflinching support to the Energy Commission of Nigeria as it strives towards achieving its own contribution to the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President, through various energy production, policy, management or planning projects and programmes of the ECN.

He also used the opportunity to express his gratitude to the Technical partner of the ECN; the Electric Motor Vehicle
Company, the first EV company in Nigeria, founded by Mr Audu Mustapha and at the same time, also commended the management and staff of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, ECN for their unflinching support towards the actualization of the project

In his goodwill address at the event, the Honourable Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji noted that the commissioning, which is a landmark achievement by the Director General/CEO of the ECN, is a pivotal step in advancing Nigeria's transition to sustainable energy solutions.

"I am proud to witness this bold stride towards cleaner mobility, a direct
reflection of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda and Nigeria's commitment to reducing dependence on fossil fuels, enhancing energy security, and promoting green innovations." He stated.

He stressed that "this project is more than just an infrastructure milestone; it is
a testament to our nation's resolve to embrace technological advancement in energy and transportation.

"By fostering strategic partnerships like this between ECN and EMVC, we pave the way for a more sustainable, eco-friendly future, reducing carbon emissions and aligning Nigeria with global trends in electric mobility." The Minister stated.

He commended the Energy Commission of Nigeria, led by Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, for its unwavering dedication, and the Electric Motor Vehicle Company (EMVC) for its commitment to innovation.

"Together, we are shaping a resilient and forward-thinking energy ecosystem." Nnaji stated.

Nnaji called for all to collectively
work towards expanding this initiative across the nation, ensuring that
electric mobility becomes a viable, widespread reality in Nigeria.

"The Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology remains committed to policies and initiatives that drive technological advancements, attract investments, and create sustainable
employment in the green economy."
He concluded.

How many Nigerians can afford electric cars?

A 20 year old corolla has become a luxury to so many, how much more an electric car.

This charging station is for the rich and not the masses.

Misplaced priority....
As we speak, this week alone Abuja no geh light for 3days stretch..... They brought it yesterday for some hours. Currently this morning o light is no where to be found again, they took it over the night. And it's not a priority. Food security is not a priority. Cheap means of transportation in Abj is not a priority
What a useless govt.

If the capital of a country is thrown into darkness without explanation every now and then what is the hope of other state?

Here they are commissioning electric vehicle charging point. Electric vehicle that no masses or middle class will be able to afford in the next 20 years even if they keep saving all their salary
Re: FG Commissions Hybrid Electric Vehicle Charging Station In Abuja by McLizbae: 7:25am On Mar 21, 2025
This may not be great news even for the few elite luxurious electric vehicles (EV) users in Abuja. Patronage will be low-to-zero for a while or even an extended period. Reasons are (1) Very very few persons can afford the luxuries of EVs currently. (2) Most if not all that have currently acquire EVs in Nigeria, have also installed their private charging units in their homes, where it is already more comfortable or even cheaper for those that install the solar charging units.

To maximize the utility of this govt facility, govt will still have to use it themselves by rolling out EVs (for commercial or official purposes) that will utilize the facilities.

Great idea, but will it stand the test of time? Building is one thing; maintaining it is another. One major flaw of the Nigerian government is poor maintenance. If you knew how many projects have been launched, only to vanish due to neglect or a change in administration, you'd understand the concern.

I imagine you said the same thing four years ago when the same APC government made a similar announcement.
What does that say about your mumu-ness status?

- Low,
- medium or
- high huh

If there is any truthfulness about these APC shege clowns, should our country not be flooded with EVs and charging stations to help terrible T-Pain achieve his promise of crashing petrol price to pre-January 2023 level easily?

Those who own an electric vehicle will understand the importance of this infrastructure. Not every project is designed for everyone. In developing countries, this is what the government has done in many strategic locations. Does the fact that you can afford it mean that type of project should not be done?

Reason with your brain, not with your ass.
