VP Shettima Welcomes Visa Inc's Pledge To Site Data Centre In Nigeria

Visa Inc. @Visa, an American multinational payment card services corporation, has updated Vice President Kashim Shettima on plans to site data centre infrastructure in Nigeria.

This is in addition to its investments of over $1 billion in the country, including a substantial technological partnership with MoniePoint to foster digital payment solutions, a $200 million investment in Interswitch, and a partnership with @thriveagric to empower smallholder farmers and enhance food security in Nigeria.

Visa's Regional President for Central, & Eastern Europe, Middle East, and Africa (CEMEA), Mr. Andrew Torre, disclosed this when he led a delegation of the company on a courtesy visit to Vice President Shettima at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Mr Torre said while Visa Inc. "has been making investments and will continue to make these investments in Nigeria", the plan to site the data centre infrastructure is aimed at bringing new technologies into the Nigerian market that would bolster the nation's growing digital economy.

According to him, partners like Hugo, and Samsung require some of Visa's technologies to launch mobile payment services for a more competitive and cost-effective market.

Responding, Vice President Shettima @officialSKSM assured the US-based corporation team that the patronage and partnership between Visa and the Nigerian government will continue to grow by leaps and bounds.

VP Shettima also applauded Visa for investing in ThriveAgriculture, noting that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu @officialABAT is quite passionate about repositioning the agriculture sector, which is one of the primes in the administration's 8-point agenda.

He said, "Nigeria is where the action is. Of the ten fintechs in Africa, about eight are in Nigeria, with Moniepoint as the newest addition. Agriculture is key to the 8-point agenda of the present administration. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is really keen on repositioning the agriculture industry here, and we have to invest in technology, we have to invest in modernisation.

"If we must improve on agriculture, we must embrace modernity, improve agricultural prices, seeds, fertilization, and intermediate technology. ThriveAgriculture is a company that has a focus on food security, providing up-to-date data to our farmers. And be rest assured that the patronage, the partnership between the government of Nigeria and Visa will only grow by leaps and bounds."

The Nigerian Vice President urged Visa Inc. to also invest in the Outsource to Nigeria Initiative @otni_ng of the federal government to help facilitate access to finance for the creative sector to boost the nation's digital and creative economy.

Also on the Visa delegation were the Senior Vice President, Head of Western and Central Africa, Mr. Andrew Uaboi, and Vice President, Head of West Africa @VisaNigeria, Mr. Chidozie Arinze.

The huge Nigerian Diaspora and Nigeria-based population of slightly over 230 million approximately CANNOT be ignored by any major investor who has eyes for good returns on investments provided there's a conducive business ecosystem in place.

Nice one.

I hope they crash the dollar-to-Naira difficulties posed by traditional banks so drop shipping could become a thing again.
Has terrible T-Pain not crashed the dollar rate already as promised, just like he has also crashed petrol price as he promised? Otherwise what is the point of his hitting the ground running 22 months ago?

If Aṣiwaju ọmọlúwàbís fail to honour his own commitments then what should ordinary ọmọlúwàbís do huh

World Bank offers Nigeria forex rate advice, as Tinubu eyes N200/Dollar rate

April 23, 2023

The President-elect said he would work with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to *bring down the exchange rate to N200 in his first term.*

“My administration will collaborate with the Central Bank to harmonize the fiscal and monetary policy to achieve immediate stabilization of the value of the naira against the US dollars and other currencies and in the short term, strengthen the naira by boosting the supply of foreign currency and moderating demand.

“The short-term goal is to achieve a naira/dollar rate of 300 naira/US$ and gradually achieve a less than 200 naira rate over the next four years, Tinubu stated.

[quote author=wwwihy post=125726830]PRESIDENT TINUBU SECURES LANDMARK DEAL WITH UNITED ARAB EMIRATES ACROSS SECTORS; VISA BAN ON NIGERIAN TRAVELERS IS LIFTED IMMEDIATELY

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and President of the United Arab Emirates, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on Monday in Abu Dhabi, have finalized a historic agreement, which has resulted in the immediate cessation of the visa ban placed on Nigerian travelers.

Furthermore, by this historic agreement, both Etihad Airlines and Emirates Airlines are to immediately resume flight schedules into and out of Nigeria, without any further delay.

As negotiated between the two Heads of State, this immediate restoration of flight activity, through these two airlines and between the two countries, does not involve any immediate payment by the Nigerian government.

In recognition of President Tinubu's economic development diplomacy drive and proposals today presented by President Tinubu to his counterpart, an agreed framework has been established, which will involve several billions of U.S. dollars worth of new investments into the Nigerian economy across multiple sectors, including defense, agriculture and others, by the investment arms of the Government of the United Arab Emirates.

Additionally, President Tinubu is pleased to have successfully negotiated a joint, new foreign exchange liquidity programme between the two Governments, which will be announced in detail in the coming weeks.

In conclusion, the President wishes to commend the UAE President, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, for his unalloyed friendship and his determined effort to join hands with him to fully normalize and reset to excellence, the standard of relations between the two important countries.

A competent looter is what you mean.

Lagos state budget was N43 billion 25 years ago and now it’s N3.4 trillion. The budget has grown 79 times over the quarter century from IGR squeezed out of the public and higher federal allocation received on behalf of the masses as well as loans to be repaid by all Lagosians.

How much improvement in basic services, amenities and utilities was achieved with this 79 times growth in budget, using Tinubu’s master plan? If it doesn’t match what Jakande did in just four years, should Tinubu, Fashola, Ambode and Sanwo Olu not be in jail like Buhari did to Jakande in 1984?
You people keep using Jakande that was dead several years ago to compare Tinubu. Why not use a contemporary gov, then we will know you are making a point. Why not use contemporary gov like Obi to compare him. Or is it that you find it impossible to compare him to any contemporary gov? The fact that you people are always mentoring Jakande shows that he is at least the best in the current times since 1999. Also compare his tenure with the achievements of his political opposition like Atiku and Obi. Only someone that wants to lie will say his witness is dead. Use life witnesses please.

Do you think data center is a child's play?
Data center is more than just talking,
It involves 24 hrs steady electricity.

The thing is, the criminals and caliphates in power, know how to play movie for the masses. Fraudulent activities and ngomogo (buga), na their m/o.

Why do you read religious books about people who died several millennia ago?

Jakande was a progressive like Tinubu claims to be, and also a governor of Lagos State just like Tinubu again. Why would a sensible person fail to compare his current position with that of his past, to know what progress or lack thereof, he has made huh

A venture in failure and futility. How do you open a data center in Nigeria without the infrastructure, where is the power supply? This is for photo ops in my opinion.

There's no way they can avoid diesel fuel costs due to the need for alternative power backup, which could make their services slightly more expensive, especially for SMEs.
jjbest123:
They are welcome 🤗🤗🤗.

Just a quick advise; in whatever they do,they should invest heavily on solar,to avoid adding up their operational cost with Diesel cost.

Dear Visa,

Why is the Visa you produce for Nigerians different from the ones you produce for Americans?

The Nigerian Visa cards can hardly purchase things on web where Visa is actually allowed..

There is a saying in Yoruba land that only a liar will say his witness is in heaven or dead. Why not compare the achievements of Tinubu with Atiku and Obi that are still alive. Those ones are rivals and good enough alive so there is no risk of hero worshipping them when they are dead. Compare contemporary rivals. Going way back in time to compare Tinubu with King Solomon shows that you are not serious and you don't have a point.

You dont have a job so how would you know that they have started paying minimum wages.

You didn't graduate from school to be in nysc so how would you receive the increased allowee that will start end of this month.

The painful part is that at this point you are not even in uni or have plans to enter one so how do you intend to get student loan that real students are already getting.

Now listen, I'm not a supporter of Tinubu or the Apc because of the hardship they have brought, but to be bitter all the time and condemn even the littles ones they are doing that is helping some people is what i will not do.

If nothing at all is favouring you in all that is happening then you need to check yourself and find better means for youtself and stop waiting for the government you have bitterness for because they dont know you. Get a life for ypirself and trust me you will no longer be pained by whatever the government is doing.

The big joke is on you!
I graduated from UNIBEN in 2016 where I studied law. I completed my LLM program from Boston College here in US in 2021. I work here now and have an established business running in Nigeria.
God forbid I work in Nigeria. You're the one who needs a job in Nigeria and is jubbilating over a useless and non existing 70k minimum wage. The corpers allowee was promised to begin last year and it never happened. Now they are promising you again by the end of this month and you're already jubbilating over a mere promise they failed to honor before!
You're really funny to be excited over a mere promise that's yet to be implemented. cheesy cheesy
