A commercial motorcyclist simply identified Papa Ejime has reportedly killed himself after he allegedly drank a substance suspected to be an insecticide.

The incident occurred on Sunday morning at Oghara, Ethiope-West Local Government Area of Delta State.

It was learnt that the deceased killed himself after his marriage crashed recently.

It was gathered that the deceased, a chronic gambler always beat his wife anytime he failed to win.

Neighbours who craved anonymity said early this year, the deceased punched his wife on the mouth, causing her teeth to fall out.

According to the neighbours, before the marriage crashed, his wife has been footing all the bills including house rent, feeding and children school fees.

They added that the woman left the house with her children due to issues relating to domestic violence.

The neighbours also pointed that several attempts by the deceased to bring his wife back failed, before he reportedly took his own life.

As a man, if you're not financially stable, it's best to avoid marriage and refrain from having children who might inherit your problems. This is exemplified by a school teacher from my former area who has over four children but continues to harass his wife and report her to her parents, despite his inability to provide for the children he already has.

If any holiday time arrives, he will tell the children to go and stay with their mother's family.

You don't read context. It goes beyond that. He is a chronic gambler. He has probably lost the only things that are keeping him sane. She has been the one holding the home together. Now that she's left with the kid, he finally sees in hindsight, that the impact of all his gambling compulsion was always beyond just losing money. The pain is now full cycle.
