Nigeria’s House of Representatives has approved a bill seeking to integrate the 37 Development Area Councils of Lagos State as bonafide Local Government Areas (LGAs). If eventually passed into law, the total number of LGAs in Lagos will grow from the current 20 to become 57. The bill was among 42 constitutional amendment bills passed on Wednesday 26 March 2025 and was sponsored by Honourable James Abiodun Faleke of Ikeja Federal Constituency, Hon. Babajimi Benson of Ikorodu Federal Constituency, and Hon. Enitan Dolapo Badru of Lagos Island I Federal Constituency, along with 19 other lawmakers. If passed into law, it will increase total LGAs in Nigeria from 774 to 811, and will also catapult Lagos to have the highest number of LGAs in Nigeria, leapfrogging among others Kano/Katsina/Oyo states which now respectively have 44/34/33.  Rubbish.. Na so una go pack many LGAs give Kano state  . Whereas there are many states down here that have many larger LGAs that could have been disintegrated into other several LGAs but the corruption wey don get taproot for the country won't allow it to happen here 2 Likes |
