I don't know about the case of the governor but Regina and her parents were in support of the marriage and she was 19 years then ( not like I'm in support Sha)
But in this case, the girl clearly refused but she was killed in return. So sad😭😔

Yes, there was. When I noticed all the insults being heaped on women here on Nairaland and other social media. 99% of my posts are in response to men that denigrate women. I won’t stand for it. Most men devalue women on social media so they can have the opportunity to commit all sorts of atrocities on them in real life.

If the parents are in support that may have influenced Regina's decision and place undue pressure on her not to disappoint her parents. In that case it is no longer her choice per se. Secondly the parents may have been subtly manipulated given the position of the husband in the society. The possible financial gain or social status that come with them going into such union may have also influenced their decisions.

The question that we will never know the answer to was 'if Regina' s parent were as rich and influential as Ned would they have been ok with the marriage?" Or if Ned was just an average polygamous Nigerian man would Regina and her parents accept his proposal"?

I agree that some of the foreign cultures have exposed us to things that are alien to authentic African culture. However, child marriage is not one of those things I will put pass African culture.

But burning someone's daughter alive in such manner may likely call for outright war between villages or even family. As a result of the brute and swift response to such atrocious acts people knew to act better with much restrain.

Religion without conscience is wickedness, especially when people practice certain parts of the teachings in isolation. Assuming a person is allowed to marry an underaged girl, I believe this should only happen if it is mutual (which happens, though rare). But there is no place for marrying someone off against their will, no way. Again, any teaching that allows the killing of another just because he/she refuses to be subservient to one is out of it. It is only religion that makes many Africans behave a little orderly (that is when they are 'genuinely' religious, like the born again christians- I don't know if islam has such), but in some other climes, it is natural to obey the law, hence some of us question the elements Africans are made of.
