Nigeria's Major problem now is not salary increase but how to curb inflation.

When I see these kids I just laughed. I wish I was younger again and there would be certain decisions I wouldn't have taken. I was paid 19,500 naira that time when I served in Bauchi state; after my one year service, I saved up to 50k naira cash and went back to the east. From the east, I head to Lagos. That was how life started. My port of call then was at Ago Palace. Sadly, the cousin that I lived with that works in a bank refused to provide me with basic three square meal. The guys literally starve me to death that I had to deep in my pocket to feed my self continuously with the 50k of my life saving. When he was defiant, I left him to the east. Stayed with my mum. In fact, it was even a harder decision because all hell was let loose. She never had patient with me either.
I was back to Lagos after going almost one year; this time around, in my Uncle's house. Another gate of hell was opened. This time, it was my uncle's wife. When I landed in that house, I never wanted to work in her school but she somehow influenced the decision and stopped the stipend my uncle was promising to be paying me till I get a job. This woman made me her b*tch in that school. I wake up by 4:30am, enter the bus and we drove till 6:30am, then the school starts at 7:00am. I will teach from SS 1 to SS 3. The school closes by 5pm, we enter the bus and arrived 8pm in the night, sometimes 9pm. Because I live in a house that look like a security house, this woman gave me a kitchen and an utensils to fed for myself. By that time, I was weak, no food. I will buy bread to eat. Then again I will wake up by 4:30am again. The cycle continues... Until... In fact I can't finish my storyline. Fast forwarded.... I traveled out of NIGERIA after "Nigeria" dealt with me. Today I am married with a kid and wonderful family.
thanks for your past life narration. I have a similar situation of limited funds. Please,I want to ask, how were you able to travel to the country you are flourishing in despite lack of funds as a teacher at the time. I am also have some financial constraints but I also want to leave the country.

Edit: You that is reading my text, remember I said in the beginning that there are certain decisions I wouldn't have taken. If I had known that life is not about reciprocity, I wouldn't have lean on others. Some of you do not even know why I felt bad about that cousin and the Uncle(In fact, I wouldn't even say that I felt totally bad about them) It was my family that set my Uncle up in the early 90's with thousands of naira then(His wife wasn't told the story or perhaps she knew but choose ignorance). That cousin of ours literally pack food from our house every weekend when he was still in a boarding school. Our house was like a pilgrimage and arms giving center; like a Mecca. But when I became a man, nobody could lift me. Even with a little finger. I thought life was about solidarity and relationship with others. They use it on us and I myself didn't benefit from that
That's life for you , you passed through all that phases just to be strong and their you are today more good things are still coming your way.For me only one of my uncle that trained me from primary school to secondary school and after that he back down the rest I did it by myself with 💯% sufferness but today I live a fulfill life, meanwhile all those phases makes me stronger because I don't know how to depend on people if I face any challenge I figured it out by myself with prayer 🙏 my wife and my children are my best friends and family but for those of my extended family that abandoned me none of them can near me for help or else I just wish to do it willingly from my heart cuz none of them contributed to my success only that my uncle that still earned my respect till today cuz he set me on right track for basic education.

Only a fool would think the money is big.

A plate of food is now #1500

Anything you are buying now is 4 x the previous price in 2015.
In 2015, I bought a plate of food for 150.
Some were 100.

I earned around 45 to 50k and I was buoyant. Could easily dash out 20k when necessary.

77k os a bit higher than 33k but it is just poverty in disguise

This is the same mindset that is turning most Nigerians into poverty. With any small money or increment or bonus, they will start spending until there is nothing left to save or invest.

Everybody has equall opportunity to grow wealth and become rich no matter the circumstances of their birth or upbringing (except one is born with impaired brain).

The same way a guy who I can make in just one day more than 10X his monthly salary was spending bigger than me and always show off unnecessarily and kept telling me to enjoy life and spend big.
An adult can plan his/her financial doctrines according to wish. Guess that's not ultra vire to law ?

Please, kindly give me the analysis.

I'd like to have a full understanding of why N77k of today is less than N17k of back then (given the factors of inflation, naira devaluation, etc).

These are the kind of people that carries placards against Nigerian youths protesting against bad governance. Give them 5k, they will do anything, they will even kill their benefactors. How can you use 15k to eat at a sitting from 77k? Werey.

Calm down Mr man.
National youth service is just for a year. N77k in 12 months is just 924k (less than 1 million). 🤔 So I wonder how he'll make all these achievements you listed up there with N924k. If you have any idea, kindly share with us pls 🙏

I'd like to have a full understanding of why N77k of today is less than N17k of back then (given the factors of inflation, naira devaluation, etc).
₦19,000 in 2011 as a corper is worth more than ₦77,000 in 2025 with same title because of inflation and currency devaluation over time.

1. Inflation and Loss of Purchasing Power

Nigeria has experienced high inflation for over a decade. Inflation reduces the real value of money. In 2011, ₦19,000 could buy significantly more goods and services than ₦77,000 can in 2025.

In 2011, ₦19,000 could pay a month’s rent for a small flat in some urban areas within Lagos

By 2025, ₦77,000 might not cover half that rent in the same area.

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) has increased sharply. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, inflation averaged:

Around 10% in 2011.

Over 28% in 2024. This means cumulative inflation over 14 years could easily exceed 300–400%.

2. Currency Devaluation

The naira has lost significant value against foreign currencies, especially the US dollar:

In 2011: ₦155 = $1

In 2025: ₦1,400+ = $1 (parallel market rate)

So:

₦19,000 in 2011 = $122.5

₦77,000 in 2025 = ~$55

Even in dollar terms, ₦19,000 in 2011 had more global value.

3. Real-World Example

A bag of rice:

2011: ₦8,000

2025: ₦75,000+

In 2011, ₦19,000 could buy over two bags. In 2025, ₦77,000 may barely buy one. The nominal amount of money increased, but its real value fell. This reflects a loss in economic stability and purchasing power.
