This people are not serious, 60km on International Airport road, hope they are aware that there is something called minimum speed limit around areas with security risk, so you expect vehicle to drive at that speed around the airport, so a criminal can maintain such speed in order to aim target with precision.
Also some highways with 4lanes like Oshodi Apapa expway, you want vehicle to drive at 50/60km, what speed will they maintain on the service lane of this highway?? 20km??
Another issue is, calibration of speeds differs, so there is always room for error, I saw a footage of a man fined for driving at 63km for a limit of 60km, there should be an allowance of +/-10points
That Apapa Oshodi of 60km/h and Airport road of 50km/hr muzz me.

Maybe it’s the Airport road after the toll that leads to the local airport they’re talking about. The main one that leads to International is about 3 lanes and mostly free, why would the speed limit on that be 50km/hr?

What you put up there, how is it related to the topic of speed limit violations and payment of fines by offenders.

You see this is just about government bashing and nothing more.
Do you drive on Lagos roads? If no, then there’s no point going further with you.

Violating speed limit law in the US is $10 , Lagos wants to do now and it’s N50,000.
You ask yourself if the essences is actually the safety of the people or to exploit them… This would mostly result in further crimes cos whoever exceeds that limit and doesn’t have the money, would try to find an escape route and that invariably becomes even more dangerous.
werey!

The average cost of a speeding ticket in the United States is $150. Fines can range from $50 to $2,500, varying by state and how much over the speed limit you were traveling. The least expensive state to get a speeding ticket is Tennessee, where the maximum fine is $50.

Where in the US is it $10?

No doubt ... speed cameras will cause most people to drive within the speed limit .... especially those who don't know the locations of the cameras. The ones who know the locations will drive at their regular speed over the limit and drop below the limit on passing the cameras then speeding up again. Talking from experience. What is funny to me is they are disclosing the locations of the cameras when they should just be saying cameras would be .mounted in the city and bridges included. What is more important that was not mentioned is speed limits should be clearly posted on the various roads. If one enters an 80 KPH road ....how would he know when he reaches Point B that the limit is now 60 KPH? Is it then they would shouting " ignorance of the law is no excuse?"
No doubt.....this is more about bringing revenue to the city than safety. The one very good thing about the cameras is it will not discriminate..... Police...soldiers...big boys....all will be ticketed .... if they pay is a different story.

Wish you the same... It is well.

We are talking about highways here, not streets or normal roads where people are crossing. 3rd Mainland bridge isn't a pedestrian road.

Next time, try to understand something before commenting.

All the best.

What has me driving on Lagos road got to do with the topic under discussion?

The topic is on speed limit reduction. You then made a claim that government dont care about road users, just money. I replied that you have not put up any fact to back up your claim or if a regulation on limiting speed on the road is not about government showing concern for road users, then what else does showing concern for road users mean. Then you brought up a totally unrealated topic.

What you dont realise is that regulations is a whole complex stuff and there is definitely going to be regulations on those areas you mentioned in the nearest future.

Problem is that when regulations come up on those areas you mentioned too, its people like you that will still come out and attack the government for coming up with such regulations.

For people like you, its just about government bashing else you wont choose a post on speed limit regulations to talk about government not showing care for road users.

Just look at the posts of the people that are making noise and have a good laugh. Their posts won't make any difference.

They made noise when the government started enforcing the laws against jay walking, they made noise about the ban on okada, the made noise about the enforcement of the use of seatbelts, they made noise about the enforcement of the laws against driving against the flow of traffic (one way), it made no difference.

Don't waste your time trying to explain that the government is trying to reduce deaths on our roads, they already know this. They are playing a game, so just read their posts and laugh.

Speed limit on 3rd Mainland Bridge and every highway should be 100km/h at least, other roads can have 80km/h. I don't know if their plan is to frustrate car owners in Lagos, but if the APC government wants to make life hard for Lagosians, they'll see the result and it won't be funny!
When Lagos residents who are struggling to fuel their cars start getting naked for VIO officers, maybe Sanwo-Olu will have sense. 80km/h speed limit on 3rd mainland bridge and 50k fine? No wahala!
Oga,go rest ,I beg!
80 km/h is enough race- for a normal human, unless you want to fly.
Did you know that, once you are above 80km/h,the Car becomes light and most Accidents - are those who ran above this 80km.

Honestly, they don't know soldiers can actually shoot you within such environment if you are too slow and they instruct you to drive fast but you refused.
A friend of mine was one arrested for driving to slow around airport, he was like is there a minimum speed limit??
Also, too low speed limit can actually cause traffic on a highway, it results to a snake effect despite the fact that there is no obstruction on the road

The FCT needs to install these... Not only will you increase IGR but you will curtail accidents. Abuja drivers are the worst set of humans...

You need speed detection cameras
Traffic light violation cameras
Lane departure cameras
Talking on the phone while driving cameras
Putting one leg out of the window while driving cameras
Talking on the phone cameras
A separate camera system for keke napep, golf and okadas
Hausa boys doing burnouts in the middle of busy Junction cameras

Secondly, Lagos plate was at least 100k
Plateau plate was 45k to wait for 1 week, and 50k for 24 hours.

Rates are less than 3 days old.

No better bargain for peace of mind.

BTW, 80km on 3MB needs to be adjusted, commercial busses are also exempted. What a country.
There’s nowhere it says they are exempted. If so then it’s just useless.

You haven't put up any fact to back this ypur claim up. Its just another mere statement to have a go at the government.

Lagos government dont need your money, you just comply with the regulations for you not to kill yourself and othe people and you dont have to pay any fine.

Cameras being deployed for enforcement of vehicle documentation have been working for over 7 years and I know of vehicle owners who have never paid any fine and that is because they are very meticulous with keeping their documents up to date.

If we want sanity on our roads, we all need to applaud this but of course we dont know when to stop bashing the government. Governmentcan never do any right thong in our eyes over here.
So what about the commercial buses? If truly they want to work . Make we continue dy support bad thing . Las las no death with nothing to go down there with e go end. MkO no carry a single penny go grave

First of all, how many commercial busses care to go renew their registrations? grin grin

Secondly, will the police chase anybody flouting the order? Of course not, they will simply wait till when you want to renew your papers, then they will pile up the bills for you, now how many dango busses even have car papers at all?

Why are the speed limits set so arbitrary? Especially because the law stipulates something else (eg 100km/hr).

I hope there will be bold signs informing motorists about the speed limits as the journey along the roads.

Then come back in a year and tell us your experience.

There is a reason commercial vehicle drivers are scared of enforcement officers, LASTMA, VIO more than police. You will find out yourself.

They should paint the limit on each road zone, for drivers to know they are approaching/at such camera.

It’s not every driver that lives in Lagos or certain parts of Lagos where these cameras are.

If we copy anything from Oyibo, make we paste am well.

Oyibo would either put flash lights or paint that road to tell you that you are within certain speed limits in a zone.
Re: Lagos Installs Speed Limit Monitors, Imposes N50,000 Fine by Wisefellow(m): 4:13pm On Mar 28, 2025
The Lagos state govt. should release statistics of road accidents caused by over-speeding along those designated routes with camera for validation. My instinct is telling me that overall goal is exploitation of car owners for more revenue generation, as to the lies that "this system is not designed to be punitive but to encourage responsible driving behaviour and reduce the rate of accidents on our roads. The goal is simple: to save lives, protect property, and create an orderly transportation environment,”

Please since when government start to like we citizens? How many lives have they empowered and what percentage compared to total population of lagosians? What is lagos government doing to reduce cost of living, create employment opportunities and make housing/ accommodation cheaper for lagosians? The answer to these questions would reveal how truly the government cares about citizens because I cannot be fooled.

The speed camera initiative is good if the intention is clearly to safeguard the lives of road users and not majorly for revenue drive. And it is expected that various roads in question must be marked and boldly written with said speed limits (60km/h, 80km/h) for drivers to be aware while driving on the roads.

A new initiative warrants sensitization, awareness and publicity over a period of time via all media with different road signage as well. The penalty or fines for offenders should reflect the true intentions behind such initiatives by being flexible and for me, N50,000 is ridiculous and over priced. What is the the minimum wage in Nigeria? N70,000! Rather, the benchmark of N10,000 for first time offenders and N20,000 for repetitive offenders should be reconsidered. Also, I like the fact that there is room for contesting these traffic allegations with proof!

The responsibility of a good government is to make living conducive and lives meaningful, in the interest of growth and development of the state with little or no poverty amongst the citizens under sound redistribution of wealth and resources of the state.
