He wasn’t invited to a June 11 meeting where it was to be decided that the election won’t hold, but he came uninvited and made a case to the military to allow them hold the election, all while fearing for his life knowing the Abacha group didn’t want the election.

He challenged the court order that stopped the announcement of results and submitted all results to the court so that the media will pick it up and publish it to put pressure on the military. He did the best he could with limited powers as a civilian.

He nurtured the two-party political system that birthed democracy return in Nigeria.

History will be kind to Prof Humphrey Nwosu.
The man really overtried if it was to be like the current inec chairman yakubu am definitely sure nigerians including all the bigots that are opposed to giving him any honour would never have gotten any clues of who actually won that election, yakubu would have just done the biddings of ibb and abacha after getting well settled.

Tinubu is the wrong person to be asked to honour a man of honour like Prof Nwosu he only gives award to crooks.
A government of the people will emerge in the nearest future who will likely give the erudite prof his dues.
Well said the drug lord is just too corrupt to honour a decent man like professor nwosu.

They are only against him because he is Igbo, not that they don't know that the man discharged his duty with merit and under difficult situations
Very true if the proff was to be from the north or west there won't have been any debate about honouring him in the nass he would have long been honoured.

Seriously how old are you?

Because if you are younger than at least 37-38 years then you shouldn't comment on what Prof. Nwosu did, as you didn't even experience that election under the military regime.

You actually shouldn't comment on this topic at all, especially if you are a Gen-Z.
Speak on the issue and forget my age....there was a debate on the matter..and the entire senators from the south-east came up with their sentiments on the issue, but it did not fly.

People are not rewarded for efforts, but for results....una go explain tire....it will even be better if he did not conduct that election and resigned if he was afraid of Babangida and Abacha than to conduct the election and then chicken out....this is an act of cowardice and distrust to the millions of people who spent their time and energy to vote for their choice of candidate.
He suppose to know the circumstances of the appointment offer before he accepted it. .He was bribed to deny the winner of the June 12 election....

What a misfortune person...!!!!!
I was part of the June 12 struggle. ....

So shameful! The money your parents spend and send you to school was just a waste. You think like an animal without common sense. All you could deduced from the story and all you ever known about June 12 was that Nwosu was bribed by the military. Those who supported evil will always see one during their life time.

The military that was controlling everything, even the constitution, would conspire with Nwosu whom they appointed, to truncate elections they can annul any time they like?

Do you guys use your brains at all?

Awolowo coup that paved way for an Igbo man after killing all other regions leaders

Awolowo coup that Igbos quickly abolished regionalism n brought federalism the following day?

Awolowo coup indeed, u Igbos have realized your forefathers messed up so u are trying to rewrite history cos u are ashamed of what they did

Look at the issue of nwosu now, he was disgraced even in death
If it was an igbo coup why wasn't awolowo killed? Awolowo was right there in a cage in eastern region it was very easy to kill him why wasn't he killed? It was awolowo coup

How was nwosu disgraced? Did nwosu imprison abiola? Did nwosu poison abiola in prison? It's a shame that even now in this 21th century yoruba's Are yet to grow some balls to look their masters in the eyes and speak to them without hiding behind the igbos, when will you Yoruba's outgrow this cowardice nature of yours? Not so long ago hunger protest was lunched by the north the protest even happened in some places in the south west, instead of Yorubas to look their northern masters in the eyes and speak to them, they cowardly turned around and said to the north "oh we know you were gaslighted by the igbos to protest " oh the igbos want you to protest and destroy your region, oh 1966 coup repeated it self etc shame on you cowards

let me ask u few questions

Who was the highest ranking civil servant of that time?

Why did an Igbo man hand over to a military administrator who also happens to b an Igbo when he could have handed over to the highest ranking civil servant from another tribe?

We have heard you, sir, but you couldn't defy same military to announce the final results of the election - you were a cowardly failure, sir!

May your soul rest in peace, though.

You have started with your "hatred for igbos" mentality. Don't forget that Abiola was a yoruba man, so you should know that the yorubas would rather celebrate Prof. Nwosu for his honesty and for risking his life during that period.

Question for you too , who was the highest ranking military officer at that time?

Who stopped the coup ?

During the counter coup who was the highest ranking military officer to take over why didn't he take over?

Why did he not defied the military to announce the winner. Issue of immortalization would not have been rejected if he had taken that singular act. Na una Igbo go see an as someone who did wonders but the rest of the country don't. So media now announced the winners of elections. You just cap nonsense.

Nwosu is simply a fearful man. He don't deserve immortalization. Am not surprised that most senators voted against it. You igbos can name your villages after him.

It seems you guys have refused to follow the timeliness? Didn't you watch what Nwosu said? A court order was served on him, ordering him to cease collation and announcement of results. Did you want him to break the law by going against a court order?

Nwosu then quickly approached the appeal court to overturn the court order stopping him from announcing the results. The appeal court was due to deliver judgment on June 25th, however, NEC was dissolved on 23 June, and Nwosu sacked from his job
