The Department of State Services (DSS) has begun targeting activists believed to be involved in organising a nationwide protest scheduled for April 7, 2025.

Reports indicate that the secret police have started issuing threats and intimidation tactics against individuals suspected to be leading the movement.

Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore revealed on Saturday that the DSS had already contacted and threatened a woman they claimed to be the Lagos Coordinator of the protest.

Sowore disclosed this through posts on his Facebook and X accounts, stating, “Official Department of State Services @OfficialDSSNG has begun harassing activists supposedly involved in organising the April 7th, 2025 nationwide protest. A female they claimed to be a "LAGOS Coordinator" was subjected to a threatening phone call this evening. It is imperative to note that harassment will not stop Nigerians' pursuit of liberation. #nationwide #RevolutionNow #30DaysRantChallenge #TinubuIsaTerriblePresident.”

Background of the Protest

The planned demonstration on April 7, 2025, stems from growing public discontent over economic hardships, governance issues, and perceived authoritarian policies under President Bola Tinubu's administration.

The protest, which has gained traction on social media under the hashtags #RevolutionNow and #30DaysRantChallenge, was initiated by a coalition of civil society groups and activists advocating for systemic political and economic reforms in Nigeria.

The movement began as a response to widespread dissatisfaction with government policies, including high inflation, unemployment, and alleged corruption. Organisers have called for mass participation, urging Nigerians to take to the streets to demand accountability and better governance.

The "30 Days Rant Challenge" began as an online campaign aimed at amplifying grievances against the government through daily social media posts.
