This is good news. It simply means we Nigerians we import brand new clothes.
Lol, on the other hand it means Nigerians have had their purchasing power so destroyed they cannot even afford used cloths.
It's just like cars, many years ago Nigerians onely bought brand new cars, as they got poorer, the okumbo or Belgium fad stated. Next they could not afford toks so went into slightly accidented vehicles. Next came heavily accidented, soon they could not afford that and went for those from junk yards, scrapped. Those with even twisted chassis, which are then brought here and repaired. That is why 90% of toks cars you see are heavily repaired vehicles. Now as Tinubu has done his own, it has gotten so bad Nigerians cannot even afford the condemned, accidented cars, but are now buying Nigerian used cars. Omo that is the situation with secondhand cloths, Nigerians are so poor now they cannot afford okirika. Bend down select jeans is now 15k, 20k from 2-3k. Lol

What's the relevance of this post to the news?

What do you mean too much? You want the FG to release Nnamdi Kanu and Ekpa to further decimate their population or what?

Nnamdi Kanu the largest single mass killer of Igbo people since the end of the unfortunate self inflicted civil war.

Bunkum news.

What's the population of Kenyans?
bunkum brained propagandist.
Kenya connects most east african nation and so Mombasa serves them. On the other hand, Nigeria is sharing traffic with Cotonou because we are never up nd doing as we should. Talk to you failing Oga.

But it is significant.

If Kenya with a smaller population than Nigeria imports more second hand clothing than Nigeria, it means multi dimensional poverty is much greater than in Nigeria.

If you adjust importation of used clothing against population - many countries have a greater degree of poverty than Nigeria.

Simply looking at GDP per head is not the only or the most accurate definition of multidimensional poverty.

This is not bad news for Nigeria. We are not in a race to the bottom.
I don't know what anyone is bothered about it. Being the highest importer of second hand clothes is NOT a good economic signal.

Kenya overtook nigeria because most nigerians can't even afford to buy the second hand clothes, infact the primary need of more than half of nigeria population is how to eat atleast a meal for a day and not about clothes as long as there are old clothes he can wash and wear.
Even though this is what it looks like
It's actually not the case.
Nigerians no dey joke with their celebrations , even with the gloom In the economy, people still find out time to have fun and enjoy themselves

How you take get your facts say Muslims no dey spend money? During Ramadan, sales of food items including beer parlour activities dropped Some food vendors even decided not to cook at all meaning it's Muslims that are patronising those people. I am not a Muslims but I don't like seeing people make assertions they can't substantiate.

All these guys sell in boutiques is fake clothing. And they are very expensive. Last week I went to get some second hand sleeves and short sleeves. I wash them, starch them, worn one to the church, a lady walked up to me and said "I look good" a man told me I look like Donald Trump, if you can't get quality clothes in boutiques, get good grades second hand, starch them. Don't buy underwears.

I don’t believe this news. It probably happened in one month before the reporter took it as a fact. It shows our buying power drastically reduced since Kenya’s population is about two or three Nigerian states.

A mongrel on Nairaland asked what the perfume was which okrika clothes possessed. May God take him away from poverty. The smell is the ambient fragrance of being in the sea. The clothes pick it from their travel across the ocean. Getting to England, the air smells the same. It takes someone a day or two to acclimatize and go about regular activities. I don’t know why our country doesn’t have the equivalent.

This could be partly good news for Nigeria.
But really sad for Kenya or Any other African States competing with Nigeria on importation of Used Cloths (Okrika).

Why did I say this?

1. Nigeria by population is more than the population Kenya (55 millions), South Africa (63 Millions) and Ghana (35 Millions) combined.
2. In terms of trade demand, Nigeria could have understandably demanded for more of such clothing by population.
3. Nigerian now going down the ladder in importation of used cloths means there is improvement on our part or people can't afford it any longer (head or tail, it is positive).
4. But for Kenya at 55 Millions to be importing more used clothing ahead of Nigeria that is 5 times more, SO TERRIBLE FOR KENYA.
5. I understand the pain of Kenyans because I talk to my friend regularly who kept mourning the pain of their cost of living. All the costs are higher in Kenya compared to Nigeria (Because we do compare things).
6. Nigerians are in pain too due to the cost of living as a result of removal of some subsidies, just that it differs when in comparison with Kenya.

How's that something positive? Excess importation is bad for a country economy, it kills the local currency
RichBoy247:
Something like that.

Kenya is just about 55 million people, that is less than 25% of Nigeria, if they are now importing more used clothes, then something positive is happening

I am a Kenyan actually. So you are saying that the entire population of Kenya is wretched as you call it? Do people really think before making some comments? When Nigeria was the highest importer of second hand clothes, were you wretched then? There’s always a person filled with negativity.
