[quo aswani:te author=MightySparrow post=134790260] Good. I don't really like anything against Islam. I have good Muslim friends. The areas of the world practicing bad stereotypes of Islam are the poorest among Islamic nations. I am Yoruba by tribe. Most Islamic clerics formenting trouble now in the region are illiterates. They are doing disservice to Islam in that region. Their practices and preachings are opposite of what we used to know from Ajagbemokenferi, Sha Mashad, Apalara, and hosts of others. These people abuse kings, other religions and attack themselves. Some of them are on this platform going to the Bible they don't understand and begin to attack it. I like the position of decent Muslim like you but how do we curb the activities of these errant people not to cause war in Nigeria? The tension is building up.
Like you rightly noted. Poverty has many dimensions it takes. If you look at just anything in Nigeria today, from education to integrity in selection for jobs, to health sector, to justice, its all messed up! Religion is another aspect of this poverty thing. I particularly have siblings working in saudi Arabia while I live in the north of Nigeria. You will see clearly that Islam is not the cause of this madness. Why because, most of these northern Muslims don't even understand Arabic or the books they're been taught. Islam is taught in universities. How do you expect stark illiterates to practice it correctly in the midst of extreme poverty, ethnic division, political machinations and all factors that we are faced with. One simple thing I want to check online now is this; does Islam allow or forbid begging. You will be shocked by how many hadith and warnings from Muhammad (saw) against begging. Then ask yourself, what then is this almajiri system that takes its root from begging. If this nonsense illiteracy is curbed, I'm assuring you, you will love Islam. You will be shocked by just how bent the version of Islam you have been seeing is. |

MightySparrow:The answer to this question is like asking how we can change this country from corruption. How we can repair social systems, eradicate poverty, destroy corruption, repair our health sector, education sector, change the trajectory of this country from its present state of free fall to becoming among the sane nations. At this rate of decay we are, this solution is bogus. In reality, it will be miraculous to find this help because both top and bottom is bad. You can't point to one functioning system in this country again. And religion is a function of it. Rosullulah (saw) said that poverty is a sister to disbelief. He urged Muslims to pray against poverty avoid doing those things that bring poverty. Whether it is waste, laziness, begging or even sitting on the fence unconcerned when injustice is been dished out to your fellow man. Religion is meant to be practiced by sane minds and not mad people. Begging for instance, is very forbidden as you will observe in the attachment below. But what do we see in the north? This is just the most basic proof that thr happenings in the North do not define Islam, infact, it disgraces Muslims who know just how far away from Islam these practices are. Begging is only allowed on these three occasions 1. By one who guarantees a debt for another person and he is unable to fulfil his duties as the guarantor when the person defaults until he pays off the debt 2. Someone who mysteriously looses his source of income. Like fire guts down a shop or the flooding in Maiduguri sweeps him off all his goods and merchandise 3. An extremely poor person who is unable to fulfil his most basic needs until he gets back to his feet. This is Islam But looking at the almajiri system where teenagers are churned out to the streets begging for alms. Is this also from the same Islam that abhors begging strictly? No! So it is with many other aspects we see including this sensational topic called jihad. If you study it the way it is in the books ad laws, you will realise the fights and senseless killings are direct consequences of this illiteracy and poverty. I really wish nysc scheme can be changed to helping Nigerians leave Nigeria on a 2 to 3 years visa after school so they return with proper education, orientation and even finances to effect changes in their respective localities. I don't see any big miracle happening any time soon. We are going from bad to worse everyday and in everything.

Kokaine:. The poverty generated vices are in one section of the country. Is it an igbo boy who goes to school or is learning a trade from his master that has time for almajiri? Is it an Ikwerre boy in SS or Birom in Jos or any boy in Taraba that has time for almajiri? I lived among Ekiti people, you don't see any old people in their motor parks begging. There is poverty in the land, accepted, but there is also cultural poverty. Emir Lamido Sanusi remarked on this in one of his lectures. He voice was tóo loud against this evil stereotype, this led to his deposition. The corruption is not the same all over the country but majorly with the people using Islam as a tool for politics and power. They produce illiterate youths by saying western education is haram whike they put their own children in best schools home and abroad. The problem is not Islam or corruption but the corrupt politicians mostly of a region disstabilizing the country. This are proven to be oot of reach of the law. It is Muslims like you that can educate them. |

If it was the other way we wouldn’t have heard word for the next 50 years. You introduced conversations about SE here that’s why you are getting the answers. It says worshipers of death and destruction will eat their own flesh and drink their own blood, this is what our God will do to those who oppress us. Does this apply to muslims , you can answer that for yourself. AntlisIaam: |

The Bible doesn't recognize muslims, so it says nothing about them. It is what the Bible says about those it recognize and care about i.e Jews and Christians that I have quoted, it says the God of the Bible, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob talking to the Jews in extension Christians that he will punish those who hate them by making the haters to eat their own flesh and drink their own blood. I am not anti Islam, I am anti hatred and destruction. I don't know about Jesus mentioning Muhammad, I know about my Lord Jesus Christ mentioned the coming of the Holy Spirit and I know the Holy Spirit is a Spirit and not a human. John 14 vs 16 - 18 AntlisIaam: |

Namigotalktru: Please leave political statement aside. The north is very volatile any small they will start destroying everything. Any crises in the east is always a response to what happens in the north. Easterners are business people and don't have time for unnecessary crises. Igbos and Hausas have been trading long time ago before unscrupulous politicians came in to shatter everywhere. |
