A House of Representatives member representing Owo/Ose federal constituency of Ondo State, Timehin Adelegbe, has engaged local vigilantes to combat kidnapping in his constituency following the killing of his brother by bandits.

Adelegbe explained that the efforts of the vigilante group have been effective, forcing the bandits to flee from the area, which was once a hotspot for kidnapping.

After his younger brother, Bola Adelegbe, was killed in 2023 by kidnappers who also collected ransom, the lawmaker took action to address the security crisis by equipping vigilante groups with vehicles and other logistics support.

Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, Adelegbe detailed his efforts to protect his constituents, who are mainly local farmers.

“When kidnappers were abducting people frequently, I engaged the vigilante group to help combat the crime. Since they began operations, they have arrested some kidnappers, while others fled the community,” he said.

To further improve security, Adelegbe facilitated the construction of the Ute/Okeluse road, ensuring criminals no longer use the route as an escape corridor.

He also revealed plans to construct a 40km road linking 14 communities between Owo and Ute, with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa pledging to lay asphalt once construction is complete.

Other projects Adelegbe mentioned included the construction of science laboratories at Emure Grammar School and Uso Grammar School to boost students’ performance in science subjects.

But he will be quick to visit the scene & the north when the herdsmen get attacked in return for their crime.... just to please the Northerners.

Why not say that he provided logistics to protect himself whenever he arrives his home. After all they drive around in bullet proof cars with plenty of police and private guards, not caring what citizens pass through in terms of their security daily.

Kidnapping and banditry get worse daily, yet they pocket billions of naira, live in secured areas of Abuja, not caring about those who voted for them.

It is so sad that he lost his younger brother. But just like him, other political leaders must wake up to the reality and of the situation and find a permanent solution to this insecurity matter.

When Funke Olakurin, daughter of Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti was murdered instead of Bola Tinubu to make sure that the perpetrators were brought to book, he ended up making fun of the death of the young lady by turning everything into tribalism by showing his hates for Igbos.

Mrs Olakunrin died of gunshot wounds in July 2019 after her vehicle was attacked by armed men, suspected to be marauding Fulani bandits whose violent activities had reached a frightening level across the southwest states.


Those arrested suspects include Lawal Mazaje, 40, from Felele area of Kogi State; Adamu Adamu, 50, from Jada area of Adamawa State; Mohammed Usman, 26, from Illela area of Sokoto State and Auwal Abubakar, 25, from Shinkafi area of Zamfara State....

However, the leader of the team, identified only as Tambaya, and three others are yet to be found.

Tambaya has been declared wanted by the police and he is said to be capable of communicating in Hausa, Fulfude and Pidgin English.

We have police, civil defence, and military who all live based on our tax, yet the security of the nation is now the responsibility of vigilante, what a country. Are we not less than a zoo?

Mr. Honorable, it's not enough to just provide logistics. Collaborate with fellow honourables from Ondo, forge alliance with those from Ekiti, Enugu, Benue, Plateau etc and speak with one voice: Enough is Enough!
Make it a point to lend your voice anytime there is an attack down south.
Visit these States Governors. Broadcast their responses. Let their people know what these Governors are doing or not doing to protect them.

Liked. But not southwest governors, rather, Southern politicians interested in presidency. Yorubas still formed Amotekun right under Buhari, the Igbo governors were just engaging in meetings up and down.

Do you remember how Rotimi Amaechi was defending the Niger Republic rail project? How he facilitated a transport university in Katsina?

Same reason Fulanis are allegedly massacring in some Enugu villages and the governor cannot tackle the issue or face them.
