Please call IRCC + 1 800 267 67 88 and ask for an update about your application, as every application is unique. Submitting on the same day or same pilot program does not mean it will be processed by the same office or processing officer.

I'm applying for a retreat in Canada, sponsored by a US-based organization I work with. Currently, I work for them on a gig basis without formal documentation, receiving monthly payments for jobs done. They're willing to assist with any necessary letters or documentation to support my application.

I have a previous history of being denied a student visa in 2016. However, since then, I've traveled extensively as a tourist, consistently departing 3-5 days after entering any country (last trip was in 2018). This upcoming retreat is a 6-day event with approximately 15 participants from the USA and various parts of Canada.

I'm seeking clear guidance on:

The specific steps for my visa application

Documentation my sponsors should prepare

How to address my previous visa denial (if needed)

My primary goal is to understand the most effective approach to ensure a smooth application process for this retreat.

I have ties to Nigeria such as landed properties, I work remotely for the same org. Funds are roughly 800k-1.3 per month, not married.

There’s a current challenge situation with applicants from Nigeria, as many granted visas for visits or conferences end up overstaying or making asylum claims. This has caused Nigeria to be labelled as the third-largest source of Canada visa overstays, making visa approval rates stricter and refusal rate very high .. While you’ve travelled extensively, clarifying where you’ve travelled can help strengthen your application.

For your visa application their are many video on youtube to guide you step by step on how to apply business/visit visa , complete the process on the IRCC website, providing documents like your passport, proof of employment, travel itinerary, invitation letter for the retreat, and financial proof. Your sponsors should provide an invitation letter, sponsorship confirmation, and proof of their legitimacy. Regarding your previous visa denial, be transparent about it, explain the circumstances, and highlight your positive travel history since then. Emphasize strong ties to Nigeria, like landed properties and remote work, to show you’ll return after the retreat.

However, to be honest, with over 13,000 Nigerians who arrived in Canada last year (2024) within eight months to claim asylum, we are likely to see a massive refusal rate for a long time. It’s quite sad!

I would like to share details of a recent visa denial with you, with the hope that I can get some guidance. I am a canadian PR working in the US, while my fiancee who applied and got denied a canada vistor's visa is based in Nigeria. She has a sister who is a canadian citizen, who invited her. She has applied for a visitors visa twice and got denied on both occasion. The first was last year when she requested to come spend time with her sister, she was denied stating she did not have enough economic and financial ties in Nigeria. ps-she provided her 6 months pay slip, letter from employer stating she is going on leave, and bank statements then.

For the recent denial, she was already engaged to me, but we thought it was better the sister still invites her, as they have legal association. We only plan to have our wedding in Canada, during this visit, before she finally moves to the US. To support the application this time around, we provided purchased return tickets, letter of leave from employer, pension statements, tax returns, shares documents, proof of address in Nigeria, letter of introduction from church, family photos, past travel documents, and invitation letter from her sister, as well as her sister's bank statements. However, the visa was still denied. I have now requested GCMS notes and I plan to reapply myself stating that she wants to come for our wedding which is scheduled for July. I wanted to know what we are doing wrong and what steps could be taken to ensure that we meet the July date for her to be in Canada.

We are in the same boat my brother,, my wife is in canada and i have been denied twice as well for no valid reasons, at this point i dont know what to do anymore. Those guys are just rejecting people without no reason.. i think they are not even going through the documents anymore because my second application took just 18 days… i don’t know what to do anymore

I submitted my statement of account which is company account, though I don't hv enough fund but he ask me not to worry that he with help me package it well

Since u r d one that has access to d email, i will encourage u to track ur application through d ircc tracker app. If u also hv ur uci and applicationnumber, i will suggest that u order ur gcms note. U would be surprise that there's already a decision on ur application. I just hope that u were not banned.

Does anyone know what month IRCC is at with application processing? I submitted for my parents February 2nd and it's been quiet since then. Thanks!

Same here. Was just refused a second time, even with active UK visa. First time they said I did not provide enough evidence. Now I packed all the evidence and still got refused. Waiting for the GCM note.

I think they should make it clear that canada no longer accepts tourists from Nigeria. So that Nigerians stop wasting time and money applying.

I guess the agent deceiving you probably you have been refused or ban already and the agent hidding it pls better order ur gcms note to know the truth.

Please how long does it take to get back a passport from VFS after request for Passport?

I have a bit of a dilenma - my wife and i were approved today (Apr 1), but we have a trip to the UK on Apr 13, we should be back by Apr 27 but she has a US interview on the 28th April, where hopefully she will get it but she has to hand over the passport to the US Interview Officer so she may not be able to meet up with 30 days Canada timeline.

Can we push for collection on Apr 2nd and get it by 11th Apr?

Try submitting early tomorrow, April 2nd, at VFS Lagos. No appointment is needed, and you will receive it before the 11th. Temporary visas are stamped in Lagos, and with the current high refusal rate and very low approval rate, the embassy is processing them quickly. My friend received theirs in just five days, three weeks ago in lagos

the current processing time is about 4 months to 5 months maximum or less

I think they should make it clear that canada no longer accepts tourists from Nigeria. So that Nigerians stop wasting time and money applying.

It's really sad to see some of the recent refusals. They should let people know their chances ahead of time instead of wasting their money. However, I don't entirely blame them because our people tend to overdo things. There are individuals seeking asylum in Canada who have a history of holding UK student permits and visit visas, so it's no longer new to them.

Best to apply for a GCMS note to confirm the status of your application, but you need your UCI number and your application number. If you have both, then proceed to request the status of your application.

Agri-food pilot fall under permanent resident application amd it need a job offer...how did you get the job?
It require ircc medical and also it require ielts english test and wes evaluation amd the stream is closed in feburary
Please biometric for visa is nothing

My agent ask me to do the medical test which I did but when the first job offer was refused he later got the link for the Agri-food pilot around December and he said I should not worry Abt medical that he has done one for me from Canada affiliate medical that Canada has a special hospital which they recognize so probably I guess he might have done the ielts english test and wes evaluation amd as well and he said he paid the sum of 1500+ Canadian dollars or Pls what is thought on this sir

This is a scam. Your agent applied for a visit visa or business visa for you, not a work or PR application. There is no such thing as a "Canada-affiliated medical centre " where you can bypass medical requirements or medical done in absent. He also did not submit an IELTS or WES evaluation. The $1,500 you paid was just a waste of money. please if you have your biometric slip then try to order ur gcms note and see the application tender on your behalf and l hope the agent has not submitted fake document that could lead to a ban...so sad!

Ur agent is evil and in this hard economy just scam you of ur life savings becos you looking for easy way to a farm in canada

My mum’s PPR is finally out… 3 days shy of 6 months. I sent another webform and sent a message to the Member of Parliament yesterday so that may have pushed it out. I’m a PR btw.

For those that have been waiting longer than 5 months, you may explore those options.

What you need is your UCI number and your Application number, contact your agent( i am not sure he will give it to you ) and request for the numbers with out that you are at the mercy of your agent.
