The First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, has urged Nigerian youths to be hard-working, saying, “There is no food for lazy man.”

Mrs Tinubu said this during a courtesy visit to the palace of Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, in Ile-Ife, Osun State, on Thursday.

She noted that while the Tinubu-led administration is working hard to provide sustainable solutions to the current challenges facing the country, Nigerians should also work hard to provide for themselves.

The first lady maintained that the government will do all it takes to ensure that Nigerians are not disappointed and called for patience with Tinubu’s administration.

Mrs Tinubu said: “There is no food for the lazy man; even God worked for six days and rested on the seventh day.

“Nigeria is a land that’s flowing with milk and honey, but we need to sustain it for generations to come.

“God has richly blessed my family before getting to the presidency and we are content with what we have.

“What is happening in the country, we are just two years into our administration, we are not the cause of the current situation. We are trying to fix and secure the future.

“I have embarked on several journeys but it seems that people are not seeing what God is doing in the land. Nations across the globe want to do business with us, legally, on the table. There is a government in power now that they know it is accountable.

“We are trying all our efforts to ensure that the economy is stabilised and the masses are living meaningful lives since the removal of fuel subsidy.”

That’s not true, there are stagnant economies for decades with significant economic development, Japan, North-Korea, Germany. I could go on, Nigeria celebrates growth created by nonsensical economic inflation without a concomitant effect on the five basic needs of man according to Abraham Maslow; Food, Shelter, Security, Self-Actualizing… all of this in the past decade has been on a declining trajectory while we come online and celebrate economic growth, see our public sectors even, most are moribund, unemployment had to be rebased to curtail the growing numbers.

Well GDP is not a sign of better well being, it just a measure of how much people are willing to pay for things.
So the more expensive things get the higher the GDP.
It doesn't reflect the well being of the society.

Say for example you use to buy 3 oranges for N50 and now its N100, then the GDP grows.

Once opon a tin in your village/community when are stressed you can take walk to the river/beach but now a rich man has Boughy and fenced the place so you have to pay, the GDP increases.

GDP increase in the matter of fact means reduced comfort for the people.
Because it means you're paying for things you normally don't pay for and paying more for things you used to pay for.

You make a fine argument but your argument is bourgeoisie oriented but I’m mostly talking macro/micro economics where the rural poor enjoy the basic necessities of life. Do you know for the past two decades we’ve never had basic pipe borne water? Growing out of school children, poor housing, etc? How’s that economic development? But of course in every economy wether developing/developed the rich can and will always afford whatever life offers but same cannot be said of the mass rural poor which is a better indicator of economic development.
