Works Minister Dave Umahi has ordered the immediate reopening of Independence Bridge in Lagos, to ease traffic jams.

Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has ordered the immediate reopening of the Independence Bridge in Victoria Island, Lagos. The directive comes amid concerns over worsening traffic congestion caused by the bridge’s closure.

The bridge was initially closed on March 19, 2025, for emergency repairs, with authorities stating that the restoration process would last until May 26, 2025.

However, following a review of the situation, Umahi has instructed that the bridge be reopened ahead of schedule to restore smooth vehicular movement in the area.

The closure had led to significant gridlock, affecting commuters and businesses in Lagos.

The reopening is expected to alleviate traffic pressure and enhance connectivity within the city.

This is what happens when one state is made more powerful than others instead of decentralising the wealth of the country. Everyone is moving to live in Lagos and Abuja.

Just because one bridge was shut down, almost half of the overpopulated state is crying on social media because man hours are lost in traffic.

Must they suffer people first b4 they find an alternative solution to things.....

I was at VI around the bus stop I take bus since after 3, I didn't leave the bus as it was stuck till quarter to 5.....i had to give myself sense and trekked from VI to Ikoyi falomo....

Why are our govt so useless and stupid...

The other one of last year when this same useless federal govt closed down a section of 3rd mainland bridge and caused a standstill on the island........

I personally prefer hold up on the mainland than island... On the mainland, there are other shortcuts unlike island wey be one way....

Lagos is really reducing the life span of Nigerians

It was not even considered. The boulders on the bridge are being fixed.
