Who asked you to treat the patient for free? Is this how stupid you are?
What you are saying right now is that as a doctor, a patient in critical need of care MUST coming to you has to pay first before they are attended. Are you really a doctor? You certainly are not the kind Nigeria needs.

Some sane hospitals have gone ahead to treat patients and detained them until they paid. That makes more sense, at least the patient is alive to look for money and not dead causing loss and grieve to some poor family.

A hospital is a business. It may sound callous but it is what it is. Bills have to be paid. Most of these patients that beg and beg to pay later almost never pays, and it's worse now that the economy has worsened. In the end the hospital packs up. Those 'sane' hospitals don't just admit any patient and wait till they pay. They must pay a certain percentage and during admission the patient gets daily Bill update. Once he delays in payment, treatment stops and he may be referred to government hospitals. So check again about those your 'sane hospital', you hear

He had 6( in case of premature birth)-9 months to plan financially or STOP at 2 kids and use protection, giving the other 2 kids better quality of life.

He also had time to 'shop' around for hospitals in case of anything but many people don't plan, ie having plan B. They want their wives to always give birth like the Hebrew women. So, the women labor and both mother and baby are TIRED. Just like looking for school for one's toddler, it is better months or even years prior to enrollment to see the affordable, good ones around. Affordable, good enough government hospitals too.

If we say government should compulsorily provide NHIS insurance cover, how will these ones pay their own part?

There is no truth to what you claim. If you aren't aware that many pregnant women are able to work through out their pregnancy until even the day of delivery and the day after sef, you should probably take to the internet to ramp up on reality vs fables.

Back during my days in primary school, many of my female teachers worked until just days before their due date. The world has improved since then and many more women now work even until right as their water breaks.

Pregnancy is not an Emergency, you don't just get pregnant. it is something that is planned for, even if a woman gets pregnant, She still has 9months. this man is clearly a mistake, he took the life of his wife all by himself for his lack of decision making or leadership experience in his marriage. Let's call a spade a spade. The man is clearly wrong and careless with his wife's pregnancy but he's claiming victim online because he knew Nigerians are rarely logical but overly sentimental.

Months before my wife's first delivery, I've bought many of the delivery materials required and I knew how much money to prepare for on the delivery day, C-section or normal delivery. I have months to prepare or to switch to another hospital I can afford. It's foolish to start running helter skelter on delivery day when the man should have run the helter skelter months before delivery day.

RIP to the dead. It's quite unfortunate. It's a preventable death.

All hospitals make money. NHS United kingdom is is the single largest public hospital in the world.
How do they sustain?
Through tax.
Every working individual both pensioners are taxed. The money is used to run the affairs of NHS which runs in billions every year. Even at that, the NHS is greatly overwhelmed and subcontracting to private hospitals. There are cases they will tell you that you have to pay for it like some surgeries.

The problem with you guys is you don't think. First its a private hospital. Its not a government one neither is it a charity organisation. Your anger should be at the inefficiencies and ignorance about health insurance in Nigeria. All this man needs to do was to be paying for health insurance which your country can subsidize and give for free self but lets not even go to the government.

The man could have taken the wife to a government hospital where treatment is guaranteed because Tinubu announced weeks ago that emergencies due to pregnancies will be treated for free. But nooooo its a private hospital that must carry the problem.
