Nigeria should go ahead and reciprocate by banning imports from America. There is nothing they buy from us anyways. They used to buy oil from Nigeria, but that has stopped around the days of NADECO. There is nothing we import from the US that we can not import at a cheaper rate from asia. So let the trade war start. We are already down, so why fear further falls?
Nigeria government should slam 20% on imports from America, cost of air ticket for medical treatment in the State should be double or triple. Our government should be strict with America government, any deals that won't favour us twice should not be made

Just look at you. In your defense of Tinubu's maladministration, you've gone completely out of touch with reality and your own line of argument. You love Tinubu because he's growing reserves and (in turn making life unbearable for his citizens), but you don’t want the same treatment in the US?

Your own people grumble and struggle to buy fuel and diesel due to BAT's ignorance. When they complain, you shut them up with useless screenshot about IGR and reserves, but same you expect Americans to hate Trump for inflicting just a fraction of the pain your BAT inflicts on Nigerians everyday.

Your screenshot about Argentina is pointless and meaningless.
It’s so much fun seeing you struggling to come up with a defence of your usual senseless narrative this morning. See the way you’re spewing spittle all around trying to connect the dots without still connecting.

Give it a rest dude, you’re just a sore loser like Peter Obi 🤣🤣🤣

If Nigeria reciprocates , operating system will be out of reach, ChatGPT subscriptions will only be for the very rich, cost of drugs from US will be over the shelf.

The best for Nigeria now is just to restrategize like China did years ago
nigeria started it.

do you know how much tarrif is placed on electronics and cars? cars alone is more than 30%. Is that why cars are not affordable anymore?

Boost local production of tropical crops? Can't you guys be smart for once? Even the things america produces have you ever asked yourselves why they import it instead of producing locally? The labour cost in America is high and if he likes, he should continue increasing tariff, for most goods going into america, it will still be cheaper to import from china, India, Vietnam etc. The price of the goods in America will just go up and his people will pay high. In the mean time, when china raises ots tariff, American farmers will go out of business, that's a fact!
Trump is right. American trade deficit is crazy. It's over a trillion dollars in negative. It makes no sense at all.
Nobody is saying America shouldn't import but there has to be some control.
Some manufacturing has to return home especially from china even if it means automation.
Someone has to end the father Christmas. This nonsense is the reason feds keeps printing the dollar carelessly. This has to stop too. Every dollar printed must be backed by value.

And good luck finding another generous importing country like America. Europe isn't wealthy enough as a single consumer market; and don't even mention china, that country will never tolerate any massive foreign importation in any form.

No his not.
If you’re interested look up countries like Norway, Switzerland, Austria… if you earn high you should spend appropriate, yes buying cheaper is good, but Americans can afford made in America products. They have institutions that handle price control and Purchasing Power Parity.
No Americans does not have the money to pay for expensive goods because wages are not going up with the prices. It will lead to stagnant in growth.
Very few Americans can afford made in America products

Sad as it sounds, this is exactly what Nigeria. (African) leaders need to do. Discourage imports and force your local industries to produce
Nigeria is already doing that through high exchange rate, only there is no local industry to grow

Why is Nigeria charging as high as 27 percent on American import in the first place? It shouldn't be more than 5 percent or zero percent because what that means is that Nigerians had been paying 27 percent more for goods imported from America plus markup (profit margin) added by the importer or government agencies such as Post Office charged me almost 10,000 Naira for a book I bought for less than 20 dollars including shipping cost.

The tariff we charge on American goods is what we should be bringing down to increase the value of Naira against the dollar. No wonder you find Kenya seemly having better trade and investment from America because they charge American goods by 10 percent because tariff like tax or vat is paid by the consumer not the company or the country but by those who by the products that's is heavily taxed.
Re: Trump Slams 14% Tariff On Nigerian Exports, Others (Full List) by hotwax: 8:06am On Apr 03, 2025
What people don't seem to understand is that Trump is, rightly so, working to unravel existing unfair trade barriers and recalibrate trade relations by ending nearly 30 years of unsustainable American economic loses and security protections.

Here's an example. American products sold in Europe are taxed at a 30% (sometimes more) rate but European products coming into the US are taxed by America between 10-15% surtax rate. (That's what "trade imbalance" means.) This is not only US made vehicles, the situation is similar in sectors such as food, beverages & other agricultural products.

Rather than rant, World nation leaders need to push for negotiations aimed at equalising tariff barriers & look for ways to build re-invigorated economic & security alliances. One that isn't as lopsided as it is now. They need to acknowledge that Trump's ideas aren't revolutionary but similar to their own -- if you want to do business in our country, create jobs & production sites here. It's not only reliant on getting key trade partners to reduce their protective barriers but to force companies, like take Honda for instance, having them scrap plans for shifting production of new model Honda's to Mexico and instead make them in Indiana, USA.

After all, Trump has persuaded Eli Lilly & big chipmaker Taiwan Semiconductor to invest billions in the United States, when their products in the past were shipped in from abroad.

That substitution can't happen overnight. Not across the board anyway. Also bear in mind that there's a reason those things were being imported in the first place. (If you recall your SS2 economics, it's called "comparative cost advantage).

As usual, PO lives rent-free in your mind. Trying to taunt me with a name I probably wouldn’t vote for in subsequent elections with better oppositions is just so funny.

Unlike you, I’m not a blindly misguided follower who does whatever incompetent, fraudulent parties and individuals dictate. My loyalty lies with common sense, not any individual or political group. Tell me, why should anyone take you seriously? You defended Buhari for 8 years, only to pivot and start praising BAT, who now blames Buhari for his own gross failures. Me, take you seriously ke?
