It's only a foolish person that wld use left hand to describe his father's house.

You are Indeed a foolish one....
I know your type. Set awon "It will favour me and my family." W e y r e y, you think politics and governance are about words of affirmation and love language?? grin

I would have said you should wait until Nigeria 'happens' to you, but faux love/loyalty is blind. You can't recognize when your country is sinking as long as your favourite fraudster is in power, holding you by the jugular.

Nigeria should go ahead and reciprocate by banning imports from America. There is nothing they buy from us anyways. They used to buy oil from Nigeria, but that has stopped around the days of NADECO. There is nothing we import from the US that we can not import at a cheaper rate from asia. So let the trade war start. We are already down, so why fear further falls?
Just see what you said, are you even happy with yourself? That is why you are a Mad Politician no wisdom at all

Some of you are so hopeless I wonder how this country can ever be great with her population full of imbecilic thinkers like you lot..

So according to all of you, because America is a super power, under no circumstances should Nigeria ever think of reciprocating a trade war, even when America buys next to nothing from Nigeria? So whenever America say jump, we should all ask "how high"? You lot lack basic self esteem.

Pakistan, Malaysia or Indonesia will impose trade tariffs on American products if they think that will be helpful to their economy. But once you moot that idea to some starry eyed Nigerians, they start to foam in the mouth. I's America your maternal home, if i may ask? Are you saying that Nigeria must be Americas slave for ever?

Bunch of tribal neanderthal riddled with inferiority complex..

A very long list of things exported from Nigeria to the US but the major issue is the trade surplus that Nigeria has and they have been trying to get Nigeria to buy more from them and we can’t because it is expensive.

Another area might be military hardware and they have limited those and they are probably expensive too. They closed down their manufacturing and ship it to China and other less expensive countries and are now crying.

Even Dangote go buy crude from them.

Na their people go protest tire them.

World police don tire them.

Trump is right. American trade deficit is crazy. It's over a trillion dollars in negative. It makes no sense at all.
Nobody is saying America shouldn't import but there has to be some control.
Some manufacturing has to return home especially from china even if it means automation.
Someone has to end the father Christmas. This nonsense is the reason feds keeps printing the dollar carelessly. This has to stop too. Every dollar printed must be backed by value.

And good luck finding another generous importing country like America. Europe isn't wealthy enough as a single consumer market; and don't even mention china, that country will never tolerate any massive foreign importation in any form.
You guys are not getting the point at all. America is no father Christmas. I am not stupid enough to believe America is a father Christmas. Just like the devil, whatever america gives your country with the left, they take back with the right. So you think by importing stuff from China and Japan and Vietnam and India they are being nice? It is cheaper to import than to produce those stuff in America. American companies are running to fuckīng china to produce, you think they are doing that to help the Chinese economy to grow? 😩😩 They are just helpless in the face of china. Tariffs will only make Chinese goods more expensive for ordinary Americans who will still buy the now expensive Chinese goods because they are still cheaper than the made in america goods.

It doesn't work that way. Imports will fall as prices rise and at some point American made goods will become competitive once more.

Watch out and see how revenues from the increased tariffs will be used by the US government to subsidize American companies and stimulate local productivity.

The question the rest of the world should be asking is. If you strip the US of all productivity where will the typical American get the money to buy the things you produce. Trade remains a balance. You should care for your customers just as much as you care for your shop. You should worry if your customer is going into increased, unsustainable debt. If he goes bust, you will go bust as well.
Oga, labour cost in America is freaking high, America conforms with international standards for waste disposal while the Chinese and vietnamese and indians just release their industrial waste into the ocean which is cheaper. American goods will not be able to beat Chinese goods in terms of price competitiveness. In the end, Chinese goods will still be the winners in the American market only that they will be more expensive because the Americans will pay the tariffs that Trump imposed.

But Nigerians paying the 27% Tarrifs imposed on all goods coming from American seem quite okay with you. Since we are paying, Americans should pay too don't show concern for them

Yes, all that is true.
But that is where negotiations come in at all levels. Labour/wage negotiations, insurance negotiations, even taxes and enterprise laws. These are the next things that will have to be freed up to make the system work.

The fundamental question they are asking themselves is: If all the jobs go to foreigners and all the factories relocate abroad, where will the jobs and the paycheques and the wealth come from to buy the goods the world produces.

Can anyone answer this simple but fundamental question. If you are not working how can you be shopping.
Do you understand that Trump did not do this because of jobs?

Funny... What is there in the production of tropical agricultural produce? There are deserts, rain forests and all in between in the USA too... Seem you don't actually know that the USA has everything to become an independent global community, and that is exactly what Trump is drivings towards achieving.
Mynd44:
That’s what they have told you.

I will like to see USA produce tropical agriculture produce though

If Nigeria reciprocates , operating system will be out of reach, ChatGPT subscriptions will only be for the very rich, cost of drugs from US will be over the shelf.

The best for Nigeria now is just to restrategize like China did years ago
Nigeria seems like a country under a curse! It can't restrategize. It failed to restrategize about some 65 years ago now. Brother, you may not like to hear the truth but Nigeria is beyond repair. And Nigeria is a very Backward country. Think of it, the Giant of Africa still talking about Electricity issues in 2025. Stop living in this lame fallacies that one day things will miraculously change 🤮🤮🤮

To those who don’t understand the point in this news: the USA established a policy of which the sole purpose is to discourage importation of goods. The practical way to implement this policy is to increase tariff on the imported goods.

The consequence is it makes those goods expensive to people living in the USA. Hence the people would begin to prefer cheaper versions of those items. The cheaper items are the localized goods - made in and by the USA.

It’s a way to promote and encourage local manufacturers in the USA.

Nigeria does the same when we placed a 25% tariff on USA imported goods . The implication : USA imported goods prices go up and becomes unaffordable. Reason you see many foreign products in Nigeria these days are so expensive- from Turkey wear to foreign shoes and bags and electronics.

From time immemorial this is a policy efficient for economic strengthening and development.
Some companies pay $1-20 per hour for labor outside America. I. USA, those same companies would have to pay American workers $50 per hour, so no, producing goods in America will not make them cheaper.

Well said 👏

justwise:
Some online users don’t really think through before clicking LIKE.

This trade war dumb Trump started will benefit China more as many will rather buy made in China than American made.

There is a reason why American companies prefer producing their products outside America, if they decided to produce locally then they have to face several issues… high wage demand, trade unions compliance, difficulties employing locally (Trump has deported immigrants doing those low paying jobs) .

Already American farmers and construction companies are struggling to get workers because of Trump immigration policies.
