blamingthedevil:Ignorance speaking. If a cup of tomatoes is $10 in the US and an Asian cup of tomatoes is $6. When 100% tariffs are implemented, the Asian tomatoes will cost $12. Why do you think used imported cars to Nigeria cost more despite being sold in the US and other countries for a little above $1k or less depending on the make and specs? Because of the tariffs placed on those goods. |

LordBiden:You are spot on! Actually if you look at things critically, only China is well positioned to retaliate and it makes sense, because China's tarriffs will re-arrange the global supply chain prices... and two things can happen 1. China revalues their currency to maintain a balance on manufacturing & export costs (because China has been operating on an undervalued currency in order to encourage production costs in China) Or 2. The US undervalues their currency in a bid to encourage and reduce production/manufacturing costs in the US. To put it shortly these tariffs are more about China. |

Effects of a trade war as instigated by President Donald Trump: 1. Higher prices for consumers. This means the citizens of the countries involved will suddenly begin to send more on imported goods and services from the countries involved. 2. Economic down turn or slowdown. Of course with the high cost of goods, spending will be limited or reduced as it will affect consumer's confidence in spending which will in turn lead to slow economic growth or recession or depression when it worsens 3. Jobs will have no option but to lay off workers and their families will in no doubt be affected. 4. Each country would likely retaliate as we are reading here which will escalate the situation leading to worsening of the economies involved... 5. Investors will become very unsure and unclear of the market leading to stock markets witnessing losses due to the uncertainties. But note Gold will greatly benefit as people will buy it due to it's safety nature in times of trouble like these times, all credit to President Donald Trump 6. Shift in trade alliances. This will make countries involved to seek for new partnerships that will benefit them. This will make countries to have a sober reflection and evaluate their economic security and policies to avoid the shocks of such high testosterone tactics. With help from ChatGpt AI.....additional notes by me. |

Kennyfancy:You achieved your great status with the current situation Nobody forced US to go into these trade agreements that doesn't favour them, they did it in order to beat others Besides , because Americans are afraid of the impact of global warming, they shipped their manufacturing to china India Japan and Korea. Trump has always been a climate skeptic , he has pulled out of the Paris agreement so the door is open for US manufacturing to return, they just needed an incentive which is what the tariffs will do |

A lot of people here commenting ignorantly about how the USA is justified in doing this. That the US is running trade deficits with the world etc On the surface that is a plausible argument There is a fundamental point you are missing We like to pretend that every country has a currency In reality there is only one currency in the world and that is the US dollar Now take a look around your room or your house. Is there a single thing that is Made in the USA ? Even if you use an Iphone it likely is made in China If you trade with China from Nigeria you are using dollars Why is this? Did we not recently hear the THREATS Trump made about anyone seeking to change the dominance of the dollar? What does that have to do with Tarriffs? Nigeria has maybe $30 billion in Foreign reserves . None of it is in a single Nigerian bank. The Saudis, Kuwaiti China Russia South Africa and others are forced to keep their money in US banks What is the interest rate in Nigeria today? maybe 30% and America? Maybe 5% So the Capital of the world is in US banks providing credit for Americans , businesses and individuals to live a lifestyle the rest of the world can only dream of It is down to the fact that YOUR MONEY IS IN US BANKS and you dare not change it as an African leader or you will be removed So in Nigeria you want an Iphone you pay cash upfront. same thing with a TV, Fridge etc In America you can buy those things on credit and pay over 5 years. In fact they even allow you change your phone every year So Americans are in a position to CONSUME like no other nation Think about this They continue racking this huge trade deficit and the dollar never crashes? Why Saudi sell their oil and keep it in US banks and invest in the USA The same Saudi that will only build mosques in Nigeria The Same Saudi that will not invest here The Same Dubai that bans you from going there Tinubu will go and sit with them forming Islamic conference but they will not put money here The Position of the dollar is a military accomplishment not an economic one . Trump complains no one buys their cars? Yes because Korean cars, Japanese Cars European cars make more sense Economically The US does not contribute that much . They produce hardly any coffee .They set up an exploitative Starbucks and now want to impose tariffs on Coffee. How does that make sense. Is that supposed to persuade anyone to start growing coffee or bananas in America or to start buying Cadillacs and Fords |

God1000:You don't know how powerful these guys are. America is the strongest country in the world both militarily and economically. No nation on earth comes close by a mile. In fact almost all the countries on earth depends economically on the US so any country they want to destroy economically they do it eg Venezuela, Cuba, Iran and North Korea. That's why whenever America sneezes others catch colds, but like all empires it will surely reach its collapse someday. How it will happen no one knows. |

Flangelo12:None of those products makes any sales in china. Chinese-american trade agreement is a rip off. I may contest US tariff against other countries especially Canada and maybe EU. America needs Mexico if they are serious about bringing manufacturing back so tariff on that country is a joke. But china- US trade policy is a complete ripoff that should have been shredded long time ago by previous president To see how foolish it sounds, now that china is self sufficient in technology and are leading in electric cars.... CCP has warned Chinese electric car makers building plants in Mexico NEVER TO SHARE TECHNOLOGY WITH ANY PARTNER OR SIGN ANY CONTRACT THAT INCUDES TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER. That's to show U CCP is indirectly telling America and the west that they were very foolish to have empowered china and they won't be returning that favour. |
