China doesn't supply much of oil, they can source from Nigeria and other middle east Nations
Unfortunately they've burned most of the Middle East as well(Iran, Saudi, etc) and African nations with oil are controlled either by the US or China grin grin grin

Nigeria should take the advantage increase their daily production but how can opec give us limit of 2million plus barrels a day why Saudi Arabia does about 14 million daily

Go and look at the tarrifs imposed on US products coming to their countries, and you will be shocked, including Nigeria. No wonder goods imported from USA are more expensive and that is why most traders prefer the Chinese market.

Also, the American consumers will bear the brunt, which will discourage purchase of foreign products and services, and boost local production... Basic Economics
If that was what really happening then why so much wide outcry, if so let Trump go ahead with 💯percent reciprocal sef. those parasites claiming woke and intelligent.

Somebody please explain this to me in a different terms because maybe I'm not understanding. So for example, you tax the US 50% tarrif on their goods and they tax you only 10%. Now they want to increase their tariff to 25% to at least be at half to your rate of 50%. Why is the complaint and cries? If you want them to continue to keep to 10% rate, why not bring down your tariff to 20%? Is this not common sense?

Manufacturing is no longer a competitive advantage for America. The U.S. simply can't compete in this sector anymore and should instead focus on maintaining its edge in services. Even with a 100% tariff imposed by Trump, goods manufactured in Asia would still be cheaper than those produced in the U.S. Curious to know why?

America is taking advantage of the rest of the world by making their own currency the global currency.

Did you know, America is the only country in the world that can print dollars willy nilly without suffering inflation consequences?

That's like getting goods produced by the rest of the world and giving them mere papers in return.

Why? To discipline macron for speaking up? Just like everyone who dares expresses anything anti-Trump should be targeted and disciplined right?
Do you lot even read? Who implemented the tarrifs first? What do you understand by retaliatory tariffs?

It's the same Macron that's locking up the opposition leader under the guise of funds mismanagement, seeing she's most likely gonna win the next election, even though their judiciary stated they didn't enrich themselves directly?

Or the same Macron that was so pained cos francophone west africa woke up and chased out the French from their countries?

Are you aware the French government is still collecting returns from francophone countries in Africa, makes them store up their resources in France, amongst other ills?

That's the despicable human you are talking about. Smh

People love fools...once you wake up and say "no more taking advantage of me", they start crying blood.

Trump is not a politician...an anomaly, that's why he's able to shake things up. Before you cry fowl, CNN conducted polls, and the approval rating of the Democratic Party was about 20%. Trumps rating is well above 50%. So if the Americans are pleased with him, you absolutely have nothing to say in this.

I am afraid it is you who do not read. I appreciate the points about France and I particularly despise it's neocolonialism in Africa which happily is being unbundled.

However in terms of what's going on now, it was initiated by Trump: in his gross idiocy, illiteracy and egoistic power drunkenness. He has no understanding of tariffs in the first place. Please do not even dare pretend that the US is a poor victim merely reacting to being exploited by the world.

Re: Tariffs: Suspend All Planned Investments In The US - Macron To EU Leaders by ubmech: 7:56pm On Apr 03, 2025
Let’s break this down step-by-step to unpack the tariff question. The idea that tariffs are universally "terrible" or that no "sane" politician would use them doesn’t fully hold up when you look at how they’re used globally—your point about 90% of America’s partner nations using them is a good starting place. Tariffs have been around forever, and countries use them for all sorts of reasons. So, why the disconnect? Why the hate for tariffs in some circles, especially when America considers slapping them back on countries that already use them against usa?
First, tariffs aren’t inherently "bad" or "good"—they’re tools, like a hammer. A hammer can build a house or smash your thumb; it depends on how you swing it. Countries use tariffs to protect their own industries, raise revenue, or push back against what they see as unfair trade practices. When America’s trading partners put tariffs on U.S. goods, they’re often trying to shield their domestic businesses from competition—say, keeping American cars or soybeans from undercutting their local producers. Sometimes it’s strategic, like discouraging reliance on foreign supply chains for stuff they deem critical (think steel or tech). Other times, it’s just politics—local voters love hearing their leaders are "standing up" to big, bad America. Fair or not, that’s their logic.
Now, why does the U.S. using tariffs get labeled as a problem? Critics—usually economists obsessed with free trade—argue that tariffs distort markets. They say when America puts tariffs on, say, Chinese steel or Canadian lumber, it jacks up prices for U.S. consumers and businesses that rely on those imports. Your washing machine costs more because steel’s pricier, or your house takes longer to build because lumber’s scarce. They’ll trot out stats like how Trump’s 2018 tariffs on steel and aluminum cost U.S. consumers billions while saving fewer jobs than they disrupted elsewhere in the supply chain. The logic is: free trade keeps stuff cheap and efficient; tariffs muck that up.
But here’s where it gets messy: if tariffs are so awful, why do those same partner nations keep using them on us? The U.S. exports a ton—think planes, tech, agriculture—and countries like the EU, China, or India slap tariffs on those goods to protect their own farmers or manufacturers. For example, the EU’s been known to hit American agricultural exports with tariffs to prop up their own heavily subsidized farmers. China’s tariffs on U.S. soybeans during the trade war were a direct jab to hurt American farmers and flex leverage. If tariffs are such a disaster, why aren’t their economies collapsing under the weight of their own policies? Answer: they’re not. They see tariffs as a trade-off—some higher costs for more control over their economic destiny.
So, what’s wrong with America hitting back? Not much, if you think symmetry’s fair. If Canada tariffs U.S. dairy (which they do, heavily, to protect their milk cartel), why shouldn’t the U.S. tariff their timber? The catch is retaliation. Tit-for-tat tariffs can spiral—think of the U.S.-China trade war, where both sides kept escalating until soybeans and iPhones were caught in the crossfire. Global supply chains get tangled, prices creep up, and suddenly everyone’s paying more for less. Plus, America’s economy leans hard on imports—tariffs here hit consumers faster than in, say, China, where exports drive more of the engine.
Still, the "tariffs are insane" line ignores history. The U.S. used tariffs heavily in the 19th and early 20th centuries to build its industrial base—Hamilton was a fan, and it worked. Today’s critics act like free trade’s the only way, but plenty of sane politicians globally disagree. They’re not wrong that tariffs can backfire—higher costs, pissed-off allies, trade wars—but countries using them on us aren’t exactly trembling in regret. They’re betting their gains (protected jobs, leverage) outweigh the losses. America doing the same isn’t crazy; it’s just a gamble with different stakes.
Does that clear up the mud? Tariffs aren’t evil or genius—they’re just math with politics on top. Everyone’s playing the game; they just disagree on the score.

taken advantage of as how? Is there any human on earth that will pick Ford over Mercedes? If USA want people to buy their products they should make good products. The iPhone they're 'making' do they need government to force people into buying it before we all buy it? What of Google, Facebook, Twitter etc? If people aren't importing your product it just means it's not good enough (quality or value). Nobody is taking advantage of America

Sentiments aside, US needs new relationship with EU. Times are changing and EU is increasingly becoming a dead weight and anti American. Trumps approach may be harsh, but it doesn't change the immediate need for review in US-EU relationship.

Do you really think the US has played the role of Father Christmas for no reason? Why do you think they continue to attack any country that seeks to free its economy from dollarization? I dare America to stop imposing the dollar on the world and see how its economy would fare.

No country can do it alone. The USA would face significant problems if all countries were to boycott their products and services. Historically, the USA has maintained its strength due to its strategic alliances.

You see say life no truly balance and humans are unfair against one another. US has been paying high tariffs for years now and Trump decided that it will be an eye for an eye they are complaining. How can your slam US with x,y,z tariffs and Trump increase theirs to half of what they are charged and the world is complaining. You want them to pay more and you want to pay less.
You have failed to see that what the US has lost from the other side, has been compensated for by dollarization of the world economy.
While the US is paying higher tariff for years, every country has to measure it currency value using dollar as benchmark for years.
That's the fairness in the economic relationship before the domineering tendencies of Trump.

Hmmm ... interesting. He holds the same thoughts today as President . At that time if he were President he will make the US catch up and balance the 25 year trade deficit . Now as President it's a 56 year trade deficit to balance. What is not taken into account is in 1988 US was the " go to "market .... no alternative. China was still a poor country .... still in the Agricultural Age ... the major rice producer ...nothing else ... still communist ...missed the Industrial Revolution. Today ... US and UK no longer have the monopoly on trade and this is what's wrong with Trump's policies ...his 1980's plans cannot work today ... he's living in the past. France can now tell the US go to hell because there are now alternatives.
