Re: Top 10 Supermarket Chains By Store Count In Nigeria by Sapiosexuality(m):
Obviously, the list is fake if I can see 8 stores in the list. Everyday has 4-5 stores I know in Owerri alone. I've seen two and been to 1 in PH and I believe they'd sure have close to double the number of stores in Owerri.

Statisennseless and their useless stats strike again.

One day breeze go blow and fowl nyash go open. We would know the true motive of Bokku. You can't tell me any sensible businessman is buying up buildings and renovating them to sell bread and carton of malt.

Which one is Clash Curse again? Abi Crash Course.

Cherrybae:
I can't saw NEXT SUPERMARKET. I can't also saw HMEDIX.

At lest HMEDIX has much branches in Abuja. LAGOS. KANO, KADUNA.

I was even thought that Peter Obi NEXT will be saw in the list.

Obi is not a good management that's why NEXT is not saw in the list.

Obi needs to go for a clash curse on how to management a big stores.

Where's Twin Faja in the list? Only Abaranje road Ikotun alone, they have four stores. One at Ijegun, one at Ikotun and others scattered around Alimosho.
Twins Faja has more stores than Jendol
Do you leave in that axis

Which motive again other than say dem wan make money? Lol. Don't mind me oh! Just joking. You have a valid point. Do you know that when they newly started, many of their outlets didn't have security stationed there? I thought about it very much each time I went to any of their stores to get something; even as the country is filled with criminals. That is why I think you have a valid point. Fortunately for them, they now have securities. Maybe Nigerians don do dem strong things. Lol

Money na water — Their money bokku after all😀

The only issue I have with them is the size of their store — It's more like a kiosk/2by2 shop than a Mall.

Hmmm

Their bread sells like hot cake
Their rice is like 5k less per bag
Their coke is 390 vs 435/450/500
Their oil is 2 to 3 k less

They are increasing their spread because that will increase customer access. And it works imho.

There are things that are only available in vi or strangely cheaper in vi but with fuel prices I have to have something doing in vi or savings is lost. Also the stress of driving to some of these places

Before I had to get to ajegunle to get to a bokku that was always crowded. Then I saw one in ago palace way. Now there is one in festac that is 15 min by car, 5min by okada

Add their no frills - only cashier, no cooling for drinks small store space and you can see how they are able to cost less. Then again you are doing business analysis so maybe you have a better understanding than I do.

But for the frugal it is an absolutely better deal.

And the bread dey moove because Nigerians are reselling it. Which is what we do.

Maybe I will get lucky and they will add an even closer one

Roban only operates in the South East. I've never seen any of their stores outside the southeast.

But you see that Bokku eh, the rate at which they open stores is scary. I was telling someone that it might be owned by a politician cos even in my area, they've bought all the old buildings and transformed them into their supermarket.

The cost of such investments isn't a joke. You've got to have billions on ground to be able to keep up with the pace.
It's for polithiefcians

This just but number comparison. One shoprite is equal to 30 bokku stores or more sef. 😂😂
Re: Top 10 Supermarket Chains By Store Count In Nigeria by tobstarizhia(m): 8:12am On Apr 04, 2025
Addide is more a convenience store than a super market. Same with Bokku. Some of these are just convenience stores rather than full fledged Super Market like ShopRite, Jendol, etc

The landlords in your axis are not ready to sell to Bokku, when they do, you will have 5 branches on one road and 11 in your area. Then you will understand my point.

You think someone would buy 5 buildings, renovate, put in infrastructure, incure energy bills...just to make N5000 profit on a bag of rice or sell bread N1400. The initial buzz has died down and I am sure many young people do not patronise them anymore. Thanks to their poor customer service. So how many years would it take them to break even?

Maybe the money they are hunting Achimugu for is inside Bokku. Whoever owns that store is not seeking to make profit. But make we dey observe.

No worry, they will open more in your area. They haven't started sef. Na you go beg them to stop.

I think only Market Square has a great potential. I first noticed Market Square in PH about two months ago , their location is almost everywhere in PH, then on getting back to lagos , I saw about two locations again . Bukku marts is just selling sugary breads everywhere with small mini mart. Market Square is taking Justrite's glory, Justrite needs to expand to other states.
@ the bolded.

Bokku bread slander? Count me in!

I hate it so much. How can bread be sugary??!! Gosh!

Comparing Bokku to ShopRite and Market Square is an insult.

You know the funny part is that , they are aware , they know lots of people are complaining about it , OfCourse their managers are everywhere on the internet seeing people's review but I think they have an agender and it something related to health.

The ₦500m I even used is a gross underestimation now that I remember very well the various sections ShopRite has with the various equipment.
The machines in the bread and other confectionery section alone is worth at least 100m.
So each ShopRite megastore alone should be worth at least ₦2b.
This is what one clown is comparing to Boku stores.
Store count not store size, asset, or employee size.

Bokku mart has over a hundred outlets and I am not sure I have ever seen one in Abuja .

I did not know that brand was this big .
Re: Top 10 Supermarket Chains By Store Count In Nigeria by flokii: 8:34am On Apr 04, 2025
Shoprite, Market square, Justrite and Prince Ebeano are the known big supermarkets there, others on the list are still upcoming.
BTW, why is Sahad and H-medix not on that list?.. Sahad has a big multi-storey store in Area 11 close to Bolton White, in Central Business District, in Maraba, Kano and other locations, same with H-medix.
There is one fine store in Maitama close to the farmers market.. some people get this kudi in abundance.

So they are comparing Boku with its mainly kiosk like bread stores with Shoprite massive structures?
So a store with goods value of 20m is equivalent to one with goods and structure value of at least ₦500m?
Funny rating.
Why not just read to understand, the OP is right on this one.

The rating is based on number of outlet not the worth of outlet or store.

Tomorrow he can come up with another data depicting the stores by their networth or value. Then ShopRite will definitely top that chart.

Peace and love✌🏽

I think Ikotun and Abaranje is their powerhouse because I had no idea Twins Faja is a retail store. I thought it is a bakery that focuses on bread and pastries.
Re: Top 10 Supermarket Chains By Store Count In Nigeria by higgs: 8:44am On Apr 04, 2025
Exactly what I thought. A better way to rank players in that sector may be to use total SKU(stock keeping units) or total shop floor area in square metres.
I admire the Bokku concept though, having a lot of small shops might result in higher revenue, though operating costs might also be higher though that can be managed with good logistics practices

You may be right sha. Bokku reeks of a copycat model, likely trying to mimic German hard-discount grocery chains like Aldi and Lidl. Unfortunately, they don’t have the budget to operate in Nigeria at that level. You'll see the copy-cat thing in how they were first to start this idea of charging customers for plastic bags way before the Lagos State government forced others to join just because, in the country they copied their model from, sustainability is a big deal.

Again, they made their staff stand all day during the first months or even years after they started operating. The copycat vibe was just too strong. Good thing they’ve stopped that nonsense now. I mean, why would anyone force cashiers to stand all day for a 60k naira salary because workers in developed countries do such? They copied everything but forgot to copy Germany’s minimum wage.

It is crazy!!! I used to wonder if their managers don't see the reviews oh.

Lagosians keep patronizing them for the bread, so I guess they're fine with it.

That bread is a NO NO for me.
