But you see that Bokku eh, the rate at which they open stores is scary. I was telling someone that it might be owned by a politician cos even in my area, they've bought all the old buildings and transformed them into their supermarket.

The cost of such investments isn't a joke. You've got to have billions on ground to be able to keep up with the pace.

Store count is evident for everyone to see. Even if another store is added based on store count, bokku would still lead. The Op got the info from nairametrics I believe but if you have a better version, you can upload here at least nairaland is also for learning one or two

You may be right sha. Bokku reeks of a copycat model, likely trying to mimic German hard-discount grocery chains like Aldi and Lidl. Unfortunately, they don’t have the budget to operate in Nigeria at that level. You'll see the copy-cat thing in how they were first to start this idea of charging customers for plastic bags way before the Lagos State government forced others to join just because, in the country they copied their model from, sustainability is a big deal.

Again, they made their staff stand all day during the first months or even years after they started operating. The copycat vibe was just too strong. Good thing they’ve stopped that nonsense now. I mean, why would anyone force cashiers to stand all day for a 60k naira salary because workers in developed countries do such? They copied everything but forgot to copy Germany’s minimum wage.

That Bokku is everywhere, I always wonder where the owner or owners got funds from. In some 4-5 kilometer roads, you can have as many as 3 on same road. This was kinda how Addide was back in the 2000s, but Bokku is spreading at a faster rate than how Addide did back then.

I think only Market Square has a great potential. I first noticed Market Square in PH about two months ago, their location is almost everywhere in PH, then on getting back to lagos, I saw about two locations again. Bukku marts is just selling sugary breads everywhere with small mini mart. Market Square is taking Justrite's glory, Justrite needs to expand to other states.

Is there any bread for adults and any for children? Come on you guys should stop this na. For every one person that doesn't like the bread, there are hundreds more who love it so they had already done their survey and they know their target customers. Honestly you need to visit bokku stores and see how many people even elderly are queueing up for the bread. They got it spot on! Even the bread can stay up to 5 days without decomposing cos of the quality yeast and my work colleagues on the island always want me to bring some when coming to work. What you mostly perceive and taste in that bread isn't really sugar. It's majorly milk and butter. They add lots of milk to the bread. Next time you buy the bread, look at the warning at the back. People who are lactose intolerant need to avoid eating too much of it in one sitting due to the high amount of milk.

If he knew the info is from nairametrics, he shouldn't have added to it what is not there. Nairametrics are not infallible. I personally feel GB should be there given that I'm seeing some with just 8 counts.

My point is if the Op is claiming "standardised supermarkets" was a factor in Nairametric's research, then the outcome is already faulty since everyone knows Bokku stores cannot clearly qualify as "standardised supermarkets"

That must be a bread made from well-made bread recipe for it to last for 5 whole days before going rancid or mouldy in room temperature. It takes normally about two days max to store bread at room temperature before it begins to go stale.

Storing bread at room temperature in a cool, dry place (in a bread can/bread box or airtight container) is ideal.

Bokku is a mart not a supermarket. Spar, ShopRite Zane market square are bigger and have more sections when compared to Bokku.

I’m sure their valuation will be higher than Bokku
