Ofodirinwa:
any project a governor attaches his name to has had a 100% failure rate after than administration. Why would the next person bolster something that has the name of another governor?

That practice has to be illegalized on the federal level because our governors are too animalistic to think about the future or care for something that promotes another rival
To be honest, Solution is not Soludo sha! I like the audacity of Soludo these last few months but he has to enact a law for the execution of convicted armed robbers and Kidnappers........be they fulani herdsmen or rogue ESN operatives or rogue vigilante members or dibias! The kidnappers are not relenting.

On Projects, I give kudos to Soludo on the proposed Rail line project, The retreat should also propose the construction of a moder bus terminus in Onitsha and Nnewi as well as Awka!

Re: Update on developments in Anambra state-photos by 0bjpmb: 12:35am On Apr 01, 2025
Ikengawo shut up your dirty mouth and focus on your useless backward imo state. Anambra is a monolithic state that see Anambra first before any individual. Anambra is not imo state where a new governor goes about to demolish projects of his predecessors simply because he doesn’t like that. That’s why having one party consistently in a state has favoured Anambra so well.

My brother, no be me be Governor, if Soludo want to build railway, why should any person from Anambra oppose such development.

Is it that we dont want to see what is in Lagos here in Anambra or Igboland.

I can never oppose good thing.

This is what I'm saying about Igbos, unu di difficult over everything.

Odiegwu!
Because, like any serious democracy in the world where accountability matters, there should be serious questions about the cost and viability of such a project and how it would be funded - not simply applauding any white elephant, pie in the sky proposal that a governor makes regardless of the cost to the taxpayer. Rail projects are very expensive capital projects. The one that Lagos state started since the days of my childhood when Tinubu was governor (about 20 years ago) is still barely half-way completed with both the blue and red line. Basically only Lagos and maybe Rivers, Delta and Akwa Ibom (if they don't loot all their oil derivation funds) are capable of funding a serious rail project. It also remains to be seen whether Lagos that has an operating line can run it profitably. Ordinary BRT is failing and decaying. Abuja's light rail is an epic failure and grotesque waste of taxpayer money (plus the debt that the FG are still servicing). Kaduna-Abuja rail is another grotesque waste that will soon be rotting away. Amaechi squandered N40billion of Rivers state money on a rotting monorail project (which is several hundreds of billions in today's money accounting for naira depreciation and inflation). Just because something sounds good because it's working in Europe or Japan or Dubai or wherever doesn't mean it will work here.

There is a lot of basic infrastructure lacking in many areas of Anambra that can be more immediately remedied (expanded rural and urban road networks, water supply, electricity etc). Or extending gas pipelines to Anambra industrial parks (which massively boosted Ogun state as Nigeria's industrial capital). I can absolutely guarantee you a rail project (which will extend far beyond Soludo's government and his successors) will be money flushed down the toilet on a white elephant project, after the contractors and state government officials have collected their share while saddling the state in unnecessary debt. The debt part is especially important. Anytime governors come up with these proposals, they must be asked how they intend to fund it, and if they intend to borrow and incur massive debt, tell them to fuukk off and go and find another way to steal money.

Anambra state governor's name is soludo and not solution.

Besides any other governor in future can decide to change the name if he wish to or it's a problem.

Soludo found the need for that infrastructure, he engineered and followed it through so he deserves to have whatever name he wants on it, for posterity.

Let's criticise constructively this one no follow
Naming projects solution this and solution that is bizarre. Solution Fun City, Solution bus stop, solution market. Call it by a proper name professor. Awka Fun City, Secretariat Bus stop, Ekwulobia Market.

I read more worse comment than this in the airport project. I wasn't expecting any different this time too. But we know what the outcome will look like. You all must learn that Anambra state is a commercial hotbed. Quite different from other state and shouldn't be resting on her oars. To shock you, Anambra state are in the culture of utilizing it's scarce resources in providing infrastructures that are always utilized for the good of her people. Anambra state is a model on its own and with the image of God which many may not understand.

This chest-beating is not a serious argument and has nothing to do with anything I've posted. Until we see what is budgeted for this pie-in-the sky, white elephant and HOW it will be funded, there's not much to say. It doesn't seem like a serious project.
There's nothing special about the airport project and most states in Nigeria have an airport. Even Ebonyi built one after us to much fanfare, despite having very little air traffic (making it a glorified car park), and Abia have embarked on theirs and will become the last SE state to have an airport. The legacy of Anambra airport remains to be seen and is among the airports FAAN classes as "unsustainable" due to very little traffic:
https://nairametrics.com/2023/05/10/most-state-owned-airports-are-not-commercially-viable-but-necessary-md-faan/

But a metro rail system is a far more ambitious, complex project than an airport. Many major cities in the US have no metro rail. If you're going to build one, you must be able to fund it without crippling yourself with debt, you must be able to run it sustainably and profitably (or it will rot), and it should have significant economic impact. As far as I'm concerned, if a major driving force of your local economy isn't white collar jobs (like Lagos, Abuja and PH, who can't even run sustainably run or complete their rail systems), investing in metro/light rail is a dumb waste of taxpayer money and state revenue.

People on this group argue with emotion and not knowledge. A railway system costs a lot because it is materially expensive. Asphalt is far cheaper than laying down steel tracks. Same goes for gas pipelines, electricity transmission, refineries, power plants, bridges. It's why projects like these are carried on the books of the federal government.

The second Niger bridge was built at the cost of $1billion which today would be N1.5 trillion naira. The federal government paid for it.

The federal government has plans for a Lagos to Calabar rail with a spur to Onitsha. Soludo should be campaigning for this to be built by the FGN not starting another masterplan he doesn't have the money to build. Because just the 14km Lagos Blue line cost over $1 billion and counting.

In the meanwhile he should make better use of existing transport infrastructure. Major cities should get rid of Keke and small shuttle buses and implement proper mass transit city buses minimum 12 seater with routes and scheduling. Bus parks should be built and proper trailer parks.

I completely agree that railway is Capital intensive so soludo should channel our resources for better use to avoid repeat of substandard projects like ekwuluobia flyover which can't allow passage of two vehicles.

That's big disgrace to Anambra Government

Soludo is indeed delivering high quality infrastructural development all over Anambra. Anambra is the most developed state in Igbo land

Most of these ediots that are always here to give their mischievous su suggestions are not even from Anambra. This was how they attacked Anambra international airport when it was still under construction. Today the rest is history. Anambra international airport is not just the best and biggest in Igboland, but in just over 3yrs it has garnered so much traffic like has never seen before in SE. My happiness is that Anambra is on track and no ediot can derail our development with their tantrums. Anambra shall continue to be the most developed Igbo state.

Do you have any stats for this claim? As far as I'm aware, only Air Peace and United Nigeria run flights to Anambra airport - usually one flight per day and not even everyday - while other airlines like Dana and Ibom Air also run to Enugu and Owerri. The last time the very lousy FAAN published figures for air passenger traffic for 2023, Enugu, Owerri and Asaba airports all had greater air traffic than Anambra airport. Most times I buy tickets for my mom, she still prefers going through Asaba given it's much closer to Onitsha and also closer to our hometown. From all available data, Owerri has consistently been the busiest SE airport. The Anambra airport was marketed as a "cargo airport" to justify building it - which any serious person knew was nonsense cos air freight is very expensive and not a viable means of transporting most goods. What is the tonnage of cargo that is going through the airport? They also lied it would be funded through a PPP initiative and ended up wholly funded by the state coffers. The only reason we built it was for chestbeating purpose ("anyiwa nwekwa airport nke anyi").

But at least, building an airport is not THAT expensive (even Ebonyi managed to build one that nobody uses) and any state in Nigeria can afford it. Saddling yourself with debt to build a metro rail line is pretty mad stuff.

What are you blabbing about, bros! Ekwulobia is not a huge place, that flyover will serve its intended purpose........there are dozens of bridges like that all over Lagos.........the 2 old flyovers along Alhaji Masha in Surulere at Shitta and Ogunlana junction are all the same size.....and they carry thousands of cars every day! Those bridges have been there since I was in primary school in the 70s and 80s............ Soludo is not Christ, but he is an accomplished economist, and I believe he has something between his ears...........na wa o! substandard cos it is not a dualized fly over....your assessment is rather harsh!

The truth is that we do not know how much Obiano "wasted" in his desire to complete the airport in Aguleri, but we know Obiano has always been a guy man....I never saw him as a man burning with any substantial zeal to do things right, be it as it may, we are now saddled with the airport, and we have to make the best use of its existence! The passenger traffic is ok and even encouraging, the management of the airport is maintaining the facilities there....... Soludo should continue to invest in improving the airport, it will all be good at the end of the day.

I am from Nnewi South...Asaba airport is arguably nearer to me than Awka, but what does it matter ......Awka and Asaba are all Igbo cities! I do not believe we have too many airports o. Here in Indiana, USA, we have over 140 passenger airports, airfields, and executive airports, aviation club airfields all over the state!

The Anambra airport does around 100,000 passengers a year. It probably generates around 300m a year. Considering it cost over 60 billion to build it would take it over 200 years to pay back the capital and that's without interest or maintenance.

Anambra airport was built in the hope that it would combine with the ICC to fly guests in for conferencing. Of course the ICC has turned into a venue for political speeches and sharing of rice. ANSG has not marketed it for proper business and professional events. Perhaps if they did so the airport would see significant traffic. But as Anambra dilly rallied, Enugu has taken the bull by the horn and completed their conference center. Considering that Enugu has more airlines and international connectivity there is serious competition for the future of the ICC.

ANSG has not just failed in business promotion but also in cultural tourism. Ghana gets over 1 million tourists every year. Anambra the land of Azikiwe, Achebe, Osadebe, Adichie, umu obiligbo,
the land of yam festivals and nollywood with lots of cultural festivals has not even attempted to attact 10,000.

We can do a lot more to make the state a destination.

Lol...ayon kwandem !!! noted! One thing I noticed is how Rwandans look so relaxed and well nourished...well dressed and smart! Nigerians are so stressed out....with veins popping out of emaciated faces.....who is to blame now? bad government or is it "okeiteism" that's worrying our people! In any case, we need deep thinkers on this forum...................... How do we liberate our people from the deep doldrums we are in!

Back to topic ! kigali seems to have a very cohesive and tight town planning philosophy! I do not see open drains anywhere and I do see a whole lot of tree planting........As a nature lover, I think its a travesty that Anambra state does not have a dedicated tree planting, lawn planting and greening department! Just a suggestion b4 the owners of ANSG descend on me!

It's not just an Anambra thing. I live in Lagos which is an astoundingly filthy and chaotic place. Very basic environmental enforcement barring hawkers, road side sellers, shanties, open urination and defecation, littering, illegal waste disposal etc is rocket science and beyond the state government. The only thing they know how to do is mobilize ndi agbero to extort everyone going about their legitimate business. Nigeria in general is a failed state whose citizens have an inferior mentality to Middle Age Europeans.

Obiora you are yapping nonsense. Imo airport is over 30yrs old. Enugu airport is over 40yrs old. Anambra airport is about 3yrs old. One would expect that Imo and Enugu airports should be as busy at PH airport at least, but it still at the same level with Anambra airport that was built yesterday. Now look at it from that perspective, then you will realize that Anambra is the busiest so far in SE. I don’t care where your mom chose to land, but the truth is that 99% of Anambra people use Anambra airport, the only time I used Asaba airport was when I checked on air peace, then I realised that all the flights were booked even one week in advance. Other than that most residents of Onitsha, Awka, Nnewi and all the hinterlands prefer to use Anambra airport.

Obi1kenobi:
The only reason we built it was for chestbeating purpose ([i]"anyiwa nwekwa airport nke anyi"[
But at least, building an airport is not THAT expensive (even Ebonyi managed to build one that nobody uses) and any state in Nigeria can afford it. Saddling yourself with debt to build a metro rail line is pretty mad stuff.

Mktinsight the night owl has come with his lies as usual. Anambra airport cost about 20 billion. You are an evil creature, anything you condemn is usually what Anambra needs. I could remember how you were here with your different monikers attacking Anambra iairport, but your online tantrums didn’t stop the construction and today it is one of the busiest airports in Nigeria. Enugu airport is over 40yrs but Anambra airport that was built yesterday has matched it already in just 3yrs. Today, Anambra has the only standard, biggest and most beautiful airport in Igboland. As for imo airport, I don’t consider it as an airport because there’s no difference between that nonsense and some motorparks.
