Transmission Oil Does Not Turn Black Like Engine Oil by StillDtruth(op):
For simple and ordinary car lovers and owners who participate in diagnosing and repairing their vehicles, I don't know what your experience is but mine is that I always check my transmission oil regularly like a month or even twice a month just to learn and observe how it behaves

And from the dipstick it always looks redly golden

But as I have said earlier it is now 12years old and I have never changed it nor topped it off.

And the colour on the dipstick still looked the same. (In my eye oo)

However, I took it in for a repainting last September or so and the painter obviously used to cross over a culvert as evident by a badly scuffed under bumper squeeze, which made panic as I looked under to see if he might have damaged the gear's sump which was near the area.

But I did not detect any leak only scratches on the sump.

Well I kept checking to see if the ground underneath would be wet since then but nothing... until last month when I noticed that the ground underneath was wet and I got my Mech to inspect it where he now finds a the sump wet with tranny oil from an invisible crack.

So now he removed the transmission oil and to my eye it was red black which I thought was ok.

Then the cracked sump was repaired and then we fought over whether the transmission oil should be returned or change.

And since I did not plan a change I insisted on returning it

Meanwhile, on the day I discovered the leak my PRND lights all came on and when I moved from P to D, the light did not change showing the movement.

It just shows all the PRND being lit up.

So rewire was called and he could not find what was wrong
Re: Transmission Oil Does Not Turn Black Like Engine Oil by StillDtruth(op):
So scanning has been called for and done.

But the point of this thread is that even though the tranny oil looked red in my eye, now because of the PRND lights I was forced to learn that tranny oils wear differently from engine oil.

That to our simple eyes the oils might be red and good but now I have checked out how tranny oils wear down, I see that it changes from red to reddish brown. (My own was reddish brown) and maybe for over excessive use it may turn black (depending on the vehicle, they said like the one I saw in one civic which remained black even after we changed the tranny oil.

So guys, if you have used your transmission oil for years, it would be a good idea to have a mind to change it for this is where for ordinary car users like you and I, "looks can misleading".

So, I am making this post here because I have never read about maintenance of transmission oils before. This important part seems neglected

What's the point of the post. Did you change the transmission oil. And what happens thereafter.

Your transmission oil should be changed with original recommended oil every 90,000km or at least every 4 years.

Just what I said above which
tis that even though the tranny oil may look red in the not experienced eye, do not think that it is still okay.

Have a mind to change it after a couple of years.

For you to remove transmission oil and put it back after using it for so many years shows you can't maintain the car because of funds. Just do all possible to make money and do the right thing on time.

For you to measure all things in terms of money shows you really need an education. And if you had truly learnt to read you would have seen that even though I put it back, my vehicle notified me, hence my further research on this issue.

Is it not if you know what expended is?

And besides only not up to 20 Nigerians can boast of maintaining a car for more than 5years not to talk of 12.

And not to talk of the fact that I have never had a gear issue compared to the thousands of people who have destroyed theirs and are now trying to raise monies to either buy another vehicle or another tranny.
