The same people who condemned Buhari for closing the border because rice will celebrate this.

Meanwhile such draconian rules no longer apply. You use your area of strength to compensate and compete.

USA has the intellect while China has the labour. That's the essence of globalisation. Companies will rather pay the tariffs than manufacture in the US because of the cost of labour

Reminds me of another dump economic plan by another dumb and clueless president, Buhari.
In one swoop, He sucked out trillions of Naira , federal government money, from the banking sector, and by extension, the entire economy, and deposited them in an account with CBN, supposedly to fight corruption in government.
Depriving the economy the necessary engine oil upon it runs on.
Well, we all know the catastrophic results of that dumb move.

Why do nations elect criminals and Mor.ons to lead them?

This post from Donald Trump reflects an alarming level of hypocrisy, naivety, and a lack of understanding of the broader economic realities. First, the very claim that China has "treated us unsustainably badly" ignores the fundamental fact that trade relationships are reciprocal. If America has been taken advantage of, it's because of decades of bad policy choices that were made under his watch and by his predecessors—many of whom were his allies. Rather than acknowledge the mistakes of past administrations, Trump has chosen to scapegoat others and deflect attention from his own failings.

Moreover, his assertion that America is somehow "bringing back jobs and businesses like never before" rings hollow. In reality, the jobs he's referring to often come with low wages, unstable benefits, or are part of industries that are fundamentally unsustainable. The illusion of job creation ignores the reality of automation and globalization, forces that no amount of rhetoric can undo. The promise of "more than five trillion dollars of investment" is another hollow boast, as such figures often fail to address the underlying issues of income inequality and the deepening wealth gap that his policies have exacerbated.

Trump's rhetoric also ignores a critical point: the policies that hurt other countries will eventually rebound on America. The imposition of tariffs and trade wars, meant to "bring back jobs," often results in higher costs for consumers and undermines the very businesses he claims to support. If we continue down this path, the fallout will be a trade war that damages American workers more than it helps them—an irony that's lost on his supporters, who continue to cheer on policies that ultimately hurt their own economic stability.

The hypocrisy of those supporting Trump is just as glaring. They cheer on a president who touts his "economic revolution" while actively undermining the social safety net and reducing funding for the very public services that would help ordinary Americans weather these economic challenges. They blindly follow a leader who engages in crony capitalism, enriching himself and his allies, while leaving the vast majority of Americans struggling.

Rather than "making America great again," we are heading toward a future of increased division, weakened global standing, and an economy that benefits the rich at the expense of the working class. Trump’s promises are nothing more than empty slogans, and the reality of his policies will be a historic failure for America—one that his supporters will eventually have to confront.

6 Trillion dollars wiped off stock prices in just 2 days, Dow Jones Falls by 10% in just 2 days, yesterday's fall of 2,200 points has only happened 4 times in the history of the Dow Jones.

The slowpoke economic illiterate called Trump wants to take America back to the 1900 when there was nothing called income tax in America and Tariffs were used as the main source of Government income. The fool fails to comprehend that that was 125 years ago and the world is not the same as it was in 1900.

What do you expect from a convicted criminal who has been declared bankrupt 6 times even though the criminal says it's 4 times as he says he is counting the first 3 times as one time huh

The same voodoo mathematics is the same way on Wednesday he divided trade deficits with each country by what America imports from such country and he falsely claims that the resulting figure is the Tariffs that country charges America. The criminal even went further to publish a complex looking formula to justify his calculation by multiplying the denominator in his fraudulent calculations by 2 figures which when multiplied by one another equates to the figure 1 just to confuse his dumb followers and look cerebral in their eyes.

False accounting at its best, criminal cooking of the books at worst.

No wonder his Accountants were sent to prison for false accounting.

That's not the case.

Trump is trying to accelerate the impact of the interest rates by using tariffs as a form of pressure. This tactic is to finish what the hike in rates is expected to do, that's why he's pushing the Federal Reserve to lower rates now to prevent a recession from the combined effects. While the tariff strategy aims to address global imbalances and encourage other countries to offer the best deals to the U.S,
You obviously don't know what you are talking about.
Don't regurgitate what you read on SM.

it also sets the stage for the president to implement the largest tax cuts that he promised the Americans.
The "tax cut" is for multi-millionaires and billionaires.
Any average earner will lose more as their expenses rise via tariff and indirect taxes.
The tariff is actually the largest tax increase on Americans ever unless you are rich.
The cherry on the cake is the ultimate destruction of US dollar global power.
Unfortunately, Trump will likely be out of office by the time the chickens come home to roost.

I believe Mr. President got a plan.
This is not a matter of faith but reality.
Trump is a one trick pony who can't plan one hour ahead.
His handlers knows this and they are milking him to the maximum.

Trump-Tariff Imposition vs Akpabio-Natasha Brouhaha: a call for Nigerians to Prioritize National Interests Over Frivolous Distractions
The world is currently engrossed in discussions surrounding the tariff policies imposed by American conservative President, Donald Trump. His administration's decision to impose a 27% tariff on Nigeria is a matter of serious concern that requires urgent attention. Various countries affected by similar economic restrictions are actively strategizing countermeasures to safeguard their national interests. However, instead of Nigerians engaging in productive discussions on this pressing matter, the national discourse, particularly on social and mainstream media, is dominated by trivial issues such as the Natasha and Akpabio controversy. This misplaced priority reflects poorly on the national consciousness and demands urgent redress. The economic implications of a 27% tariff on Nigerian goods and services are severe. Such an imposition will significantly affect Nigeria’s trade relations with the United States, a key global economic power. The cost of exports will rise sharply, reducing Nigeria’s competitiveness in the American market. This will, in turn, lead to decreased revenue, job losses, and a weakened economy. Other nations in similar situations are actively negotiating diplomatic and economic solutions, yet Nigerians remain largely indifferent. This nonchalance towards matters of national significance is detrimental to Nigeria’s growth and stability.Rather than focusing on the economic threats posed by Trump’s tariff policies, Nigerian citizens have chosen to engage in endless debates about Natasha and Akpabio—issues that hold no tangible benefit for the country’s development. This fixation on sensationalism rather than substance is a recurring problem in Nigeria. Social media platforms, which should be tools for mobilizing national discourse on important issues, are instead flooded with gossip, political theatrics, and personality conflicts. This tendency to prioritize trivial issues over pressing national matters has become a major obstacle to Nigeria’s progress. While other nations are rallying their citizens to address economic challenges, Nigerians are occupied with distractions that add no value to their collective growth. This lack of awareness and engagement on critical policies contributes to poor governance, as leaders are not held accountable for decisions that affect the economy and citizens' welfare. For Nigeria to thrive in the global arena, its citizens must develop a heightened sense of awareness and responsibility. The country must shift from reactionary politics to proactive engagement in international affairs. Instead of fixating on social media controversies, Nigerians should use their platforms to discuss and propose strategies that will help the government responding to Trump’s tariffs threat. Intellectuals, economists, and policymakers should guide the conversation towards practical solutions, such as strengthening trade relations with other global partners, promoting local industries to reduce dependency on imports, and leveraging diplomatic channels to negotiate more favorable trade terms. Moreover, mainstream media should play a crucial role in shaping national consciousness. Rather than amplifying frivolous stories, media houses should prioritize reporting on policies that impact the economy and national security. Public discourse must be directed towards meaningful discussions that challenge governmental inefficiencies and advocate for better economic strategies.Nigeria stands at a critical juncture where national priorities must take precedence over distractions. The imposition of a 27% tariff by the Trump administration is a serious economic threat that requires immediate attention. Unfortunately, instead of discussing strategies to counter this policy, Nigerians are preoccupied with gossip and trivial political feuds. This negligence only serves to weaken Nigeria’s position on the global stage. Therefore, citizens must rise above distractions, focus on issues that matter, and actively contribute to discussions that shape the country’s economic and political future. We are about to entering a critical time that will certainly have serious economic and political consequences on our nation development, especially when the Trump tariff starts to reel out it effects. The responsibility is not only on the government but the whole citizens. National development demands conscious participation from all, and it is high time Nigerians embraced this responsibility.

this is rubbish 👎 and all from ur head that has no meaning... The man trump is really trying to focus on Americans alone.. e.g this is the market and this are my goods price if ur not buying go to another place... I am tired of making losses from my sales because I made them cheaper not minding the inflations then go home and rob my people of their money to be able to buy same goods and restock my shop because there was no gain from the previous sales.. so that is what Americans has been doing ... And that is what trump is trying to stop .. in the long run it could boost their economy

Well said.

Trump is picking an economic fight with the WHOLE world, one America will lose resoundingly once the rest of the world begins to isolate America and trade with one another and exclude American.

Trump doesn't realise that no one is an island and even an 8 feet tall man that starts a fight with 189 "determined" dwarfs will eventually lose the fight as all it takes is for him to be distracted in 189 different places for them to stealthily come at him from behind and trip him up and floor him.

Who pays for high tariff? Not the government but the people. If the money goes back into the American citizens pocket, it's a win.

In a certain west African country called Nigeria, this would just be more money for politicians and civil servants to loot.
If people can't afford to buy your products due to high tarrifs, they'll be force to look inward.
When they even begin to look inward, it becomes a win win.
You either bring your company to America which is a win or they begin to buy the local product which is also a win.

Spot on!!!
Awesome analysis. Trump’s gloating about multi trillion dollars investment coming to the United States due to his tariffs is just a wild goose chase. All of that imaginary wealth only resides in his own little world. He tends to forget also that United States has also taken advantages of other G7 nations thru other crooked means such as inflated taxes in advanced military weapons sales ( hardwares/ softwares/intels).
I’m waiting to see how GOP will survive 2026 midterm elections. The rebuke from the electorates will be so loud that it will take years for them to recover. Those swing district representative members will be the scapegoat.

Number 1.
When you destroy $10trillion from the economy in a whim, and then tell yourself you're just trying to prevent a recession? Nonsense.

The federal reserve was already poised to lower interest rates at its next meeting this month. They didn't need to destroy the US economy and drag the entire world just to persuade the fed to reduce interest rates. That's nonsense and comical.
Pls cease and desist from parroting this low IQ nonsense in public.
