That's not the case.

Trump is trying to accelerate the impact of the interest rates by using tariffs as a form of pressure. This tactic is to finish what the hike in rates is expected to do, that's why he's pushing the Federal Reserve to lower rates now to prevent a recession from the combined effects. While the tariff strategy aims to address global imbalances and encourage other countries to offer the best deals to the U.S, it also sets the stage for the president to implement the largest tax cuts that he promised the Americans.

I believe Mr. President got a plan.
Respectfully, this economic illiteracy at its worse.
If you are parroting this nonsense from someone else, pls cease immediately. It makes you look like a slowpoke.
Number 1.
When you destroy $10trillion from the economy in a whim, and then tell yourself you're just trying to prevent a recession? Nonsense.

The federal reserve was already poised to lower interest rates at its next meeting this month. They didn't need to destroy the US economy and drag the entire world just to persuade the fed to reduce interest rates. That's nonsense and comical.
Pls cease and desist from parroting this low IQ nonsense in public.

If you're not seeing that these policies are a LONG TERM win for a country of over HALF A BILLION consumers; then I don't know what else to tell you.

Moribund sectors will wake up and fill up the importation deficits with changes in consumption culture imminent.

Trump might be considered to be terrible by a number of people but this is a win for America's future - albeit a loss for the rest.

Nobody wins in any kind of war be it military, political or economical! Moreso, for the fact that you are fighting both your friends and enemies at the same time this means you are heading to doom as well sitting on a keg of gunpowder. I was thinking Trump second coming will be free from controversies and imbalances but his coming has been marked with many inordinate, incoherent and frivolous behavior with high abnormalies! This trade war shouldn't have happened!

It's like Trump and BAT attended the same economics class.

Both are looking at how government make more money. While Trump is using cost cutting approach, BAT is using revenue generation drive.

In quest to achieve their goals, both launched anti citizen welfare policies without remorse.

Their interpretation of successes of their policies is quite different from realities.

They are decisive, but I wish they are citizen centric.

This post from Donald Trump reflects an alarming level of hypocrisy, naivety, and a lack of understanding of the broader economic realities. First, the very claim that China has "treated us unsustainably badly" ignores the fundamental fact that trade relationships are reciprocal. If America has been taken advantage of, it's because of decades of bad policy choices that were made under his watch and by his predecessors—many of whom were his allies. Rather than acknowledge the mistakes of past administrations, Trump has chosen to scapegoat others and deflect attention from his own failings.

Moreover, his assertion that America is somehow "bringing back jobs and businesses like never before" rings hollow. In reality, the jobs he's referring to often come with low wages, unstable benefits, or are part of industries that are fundamentally unsustainable. The illusion of job creation ignores the reality of automation and globalization, forces that no amount of rhetoric can undo. The promise of "more than five trillion dollars of investment" is another hollow boast, as such figures often fail to address the underlying issues of income inequality and the deepening wealth gap that his policies have exacerbated.

Trump's rhetoric also ignores a critical point: the policies that hurt other countries will eventually rebound on America. The imposition of tariffs and trade wars, meant to "bring back jobs," often results in higher costs for consumers and undermines the very businesses he claims to support. If we continue down this path, the fallout will be a trade war that damages American workers more than it helps them—an irony that's lost on his supporters, who continue to cheer on policies that ultimately hurt their own economic stability.

The hypocrisy of those supporting Trump is just as glaring. They cheer on a president who touts his "economic revolution" while actively undermining the social safety net and reducing funding for the very public services that would help ordinary Americans weather these economic challenges. They blindly follow a leader who engages in crony capitalism, enriching himself and his allies, while leaving the vast majority of Americans struggling.

Rather than "making America great again," we are heading toward a future of increased division, weakened global standing, and an economy that benefits the rich at the expense of the working class. Trump’s promises are nothing more than empty slogans, and the reality of his policies will be a historic failure for America—one that his supporters will eventually have to confront.

I think Presidents shouldn't be allowed to run two straight consecutive terms. So far history has shown that Presidents who return after leaving for a while are able to reflect better and make better choices. In Nigeria for example, all our former leaders suddenly have solutions but it's always too late because while he office they are unable to reflect properly.

Again, this is just another irrational excuse to justify the whimsical and dangerous actions of a meglomaniac.

Every single trading relationship the US has with other nations were specifically and deliberately crafted by the US for the benefit of the US.
The US economy is greatest beneficiary of the current global trading arrangement. So it doesn't make sense that they are complaining of unfair trade. US economic power comes from these trade arrangements that makes everything available and cheap for US consumers. This is what every empire in history dreams of and fights to attain. That Donald Trump is trying dismantle the underpinnings of US economic power and dominance is baffling,..unless he is on mission to do just that.

They, and many other nations, have treated us unsustainably badly.

What Trump said here is a symptom of his delusional thinking.

The US has not been treated as bad as he claims. America by the way has a per capita income of $80,000, which is the 7th highest in the world. It is the only large country in the top 10, other than Australia, which seats at number 10. So, free trade hasn't been as bad as he sounds. Trump is fond of putting others down, making up fictional figures to get6 his way.

Only the ignorant would believe his lies.

You basically said it all. Those jobs that left America did so because it was cheaper to produce those goods elsewhere.

This forces US businesses to focus on industries they have competitive and comparative advantage in. Why Trump would even slam 25% import duty on steel makes no sense. There is a glut of steel in the world market due to China's excess capacity and it would serve America industry better if they could get access to dirt cheap steel.

An industry like steel with its low margin are not the US strength. The US prefers higher margin stuff, and one that has not been commoditized.

His economic policies are destroying the US economy and you're here talking about the Left.

The free trade policies of the US were actually a product of previous government. The free trade agreement George Bush snr signed with Mexico was lead by the Republican party. Trump's present policies actually trash right-wing policies more than the left.

You guys don't fully understand international trade.
On the short term US will loose , on the ling term they will.be better.

Military might will come into play oh.
Countries will have to source for new market and they won't be able to sell their stocks at same gain again and volume.
Price across board will have to reduce generally.
U guys think it's easy.
Didn't China want to grow a global football.bramd like the EPL.
See the outcome.
These things take time to develop.
In the other hand US and Saudi/UAE are deepening ties.
EU will.also.have to trade with Russia or China.
And who would buy those goods from Europe.
Is it China.

First thing US did was to deport lots of migrants which will reduce (unwanted) population and increase employment.
Also this will help.reduxe sime.goods demand for Trade needed by US.

Those tariffs will be the downfall of the US economy. He is throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

The Federal Reserve will only increase interest rates if inflation increases and it is bound to now with these tariffs that will be passed on to the consumers.

Trump is a dumb man who doesn't know what he is doing. I have long condemned his present economic policies, even before the elections. I knew they would destroy the US economy. Expect a depression by early next year.

They have handed the US economy to a man-child who does not know what he is doing.
