I remember your take on barbie. I wasn't interested in the movie in itself but the global returns shocked me. I didn't expect that.

I was even shocked it was paired with oppenheimer at the time. Guess I didn't figure the audience at all.

You see in the entertainment industry, audience is key. If you can closely monitor audience patterns and other unique factors at play, you can accurately predict an outcome. Of course, there's a few misses from time to time.

For example, almost everyone was damn sure a film like Mickey17 was ultimately flopping at the box office. It wasn't rocket science because it's known that audience don't turn up for such niche movies, especially one as expensive as that. Niche director as well.

But MINECRAFT, I mean, this is the most popular video game franchise ever with the highest sales by far with over 300mn copies sold worldwide. So why was people expecting it to flop.

MINECRAFT was always gonna be massive. January to March 2025 had been disappointing and no major hit movie. So the first movie which got families intrigued, has the entertainment they want, no politics, no cast wahala. I mean people have been stuck at home since mid January without a movie to bring them back to movie season. So that first likeable movie was always gonna benefit.

Especially in this era where video games IP is now very popular and profitable at the box office. Everyone saw what THE SUPER MARIO BROS MOVIE did despite critics hating on it.

With this W from MINECRAFT, be rest assured that more and more video games adaptations are coming on stream with many already in development. I remember saying it few years ago that since CBMs are not as dependable and dominant as they where, video game IPs are the next big bet for Hollywood studios.

In fact Legendary, the owner of the MINECRAFT movie rights is prepping a VOLTRON live action in development. Probably will be co-produced with WB.

In TV everyone is in on it. Netflix got ARCANE, HBO got THE LAST OF US, Amazon Prime got FALLOUT, Paramount got HALO. With more in the pipeline.

With the way SNOW WHITE turned out, I'm now sure how the antics of a star or the director can affect a movie's box office hopes.

Also remembering how EMILIA PEREZ suffered at the Oscars. It missed a chance for a clean sweep.

In hindsight, this is what essentially destroyed DC's THE FLASH movie's box office hopes. It was a bit flawed but I feel the film wasn't as bad as it was portrayed. Ezra Miller's brouhaha ultimately kneecapped that film. Imagine a Flash film with TWO Batman and Supergirl unable to even gross $500mn. 🤦🏽‍♂️

It's now very important vetting the stars you include in your movies. If not, na you go suffer the blowback when the time comes when your film needs a major milestone.

If you are a Video Editor or a Graphics Design person, Mr. Wes Anderson can teach you a thing or 2 about colour correction and colour grading.

This man knows his way around colours and it's probably the only reason i will bother with this flick.🍿🎨

All the news and brouhaha of that sequel since, you don miss am?
Matt Reeves hasn't turned a script yet. So it's pretty unrealistic setting a release date. The film would have been released this October but you know..... No script yet.
When you account for filming and post production you know that's taking a year. But still, Reeves ain't got a final script so you have to take into account the script writing stage.

In all fairness to Matt, I heard he's having a personal problem that he got to sort out. That has affected the sequel's production.
