If US charges low tariff on Chinese goods it is so those goods will be cheap and affordable for its citizens. And please don't make me laugh at you, the simple reason why American companies produce abroad is because it is cheaper! Labour cost is very low in china, India and Vietnam, that is why American companies go to China to produce and that is why america imports en masse from Vietnam. Many customer care jobs are outsourced to India because it is cheaper than giving it to US workers. I wonder what you mean by "open economy"

Companies are producing in China not because of tariffs but because of cheap labour. The cost of labor is higher in the US so, most companies would rather produce elsewhere...It's all about their profits.

You missed read everything. They used trade deficits with all the countries and make the tariff base on the difference. It's not a reciprocal tariff just because they call it that. Read.

The US produces services that don't get tarrrifed or taxed - Google, Facebook, Twitter, chatGPT and many others.

Same US, decides to take the factories that produce goods to Vietnam and China, Lesotho, so they can consume them cheaper.

Same USA has millions of drug addicts blames other countries for it.

The same applies to many countries who can't afford to purchase US made goods and services. Why musk is angry about EU tariff is because they are the few who are rich enough to afford US goods and services and the tariff will make it more difficult for them to buy and do they will have to replace his cars for Chinese made cars such as BYD. Already BYD are selling more than than him in several places and this trade war will make him less competitive
