But Nigeria has been charging about 49% in import duties and other kind of stupid charges over the years to discourage importation, make una leave trump alone and produce locally.
You don't understand. The tariff is for goods coming into the US.

President Trump defended his "Liberation Day" tariff package after China imposed a 34% tariff on U.S. goods. He assured investors that his “policies will never change,” and stated that his tariffs would withstand the test of the markets, which plunged yet again in the first hour of Friday trading. https://trib.al/1EWbOva

I gave a lecture on this not too long ago... trust me the structures that ensure the USD remains the reserve currency run very, very, deep... much deeper than even anticipated, it would take a long and difficult process to dismantle those structures, of which I don't see happening even in the next 2 decades.
Even if it takes 5 decades or more, once the process is begun, the rest is history.
American president like Trump and some others who will come after him can't be behaving like this and not expect the world to react

President Donald Trump doubles down on the impact tariffs will have on the economy as he looks to shift the balance of industrial power back to the US.

They only lose if they sell or get margin call.

Otherwise it ain't nothing.

Mark Zuckerberg is down $17 billion on Friday alone. But those who understand it know that it is a long-term investment.

The first rule in securities is "only invest money that you can afford to lose".

It doesn't get any more vivid than that.

You're very dumb, tell me any Nigerian President that was smarter than Tinubu economic wise and back it with proofs.
You're very mad for quoting me and calling me dumb. Why not pass your point only. You should show proof to support your claim against my view

Goodluck Ebele Jonathan was extremely smart than the current person we have in government.

Yar'adua was smarter than him.

Muritala Muhammad was smarter than him.

Obafemi Awolowo was smarter than him.

Obasanjo was smarter than him.

Import car and see the kind of charges they charge. It all amounts to about 49% go ask anyone in the clearing business at the port. It’s so annoying.

For cars, it's 70%.

It was during Jonathan's government that the then investment minister introduced a policy to manufacture cars I'm Nigeria.

To achieve that, basically a 70% tax was placed on imported cars. These would discourage car imports and encourage the patronage of locally assembled cars like those of Innosson.

He thought he could make money for the country, but in fact the cost was passed on to ordinary people, and it would be difficult to clean up in the end!
But it also proves that the United States is still the world's dominant position! Isn't it? We have to admit that although he is annoying!

European Commission Says It's Ready To Negotiate With Donald Trump Amid Tariff Crisis

Following the controversy surrounding the United States tariffs announced by President Donald Trump, the European Commission has offered the U.S. a deal to remove tariffs on all industrial goods as part of ongoing trade negotiations.

The Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen, emphasised her readiness to retaliate against Trump’s policies should talks fail.

Trump announced a 20% across-the-board tariff on imports from the European Union, set to take effect on April 9. Steel, aluminum, and cars will be subject to a separate 25% rate.

In total, over €380billion worth of EU-made products will be affected.

Pharmaceuticals, copper, lumber, semiconductors, and energy products have been exempted.

“We stand ready to negotiate with the U.S. Indeed, we have offered zero-for-zero tariffs on industrial goods, as we have successfully done with many other trading partners,” von der Leyen said Monday afternoon.

“Europe is always ready for a good deal, so we keep it on the table. But we are also prepared to respond with countermeasures to defend our interests.”

Von der Leyen noted that the "zero-for-zero" deal had previously been offered specifically for the automotive sector, “but there was no adequate reaction” from Washington.

In recent days, the Commission expanded the offer to cover all industrial goods as talks intensified, a spokesperson confirmed, though no further details were provided.

“We prefer to have a negotiated solution,” von der Leyen said, warning that her administration will use “all instruments” available, including a never-before-used anti-coercion mechanism introduced in 2023, to retaliate “if necessary.”

She described Trump’s sweeping tariffs as a “major turning point for the United States,” warning they would impose “immense costs” on American consumers and businesses, while delivering a “massive blow” to the global economy.

Earlier, SaharaReporters had reported that President Trump unveiled his most expansive tariff measures to date, targeting over 100 trading partners — including Nigeria — with increased levies, sparking fears of a global trade war.

Under the new tariff regime, Nigerian exports to the U.S. will face a 14% duty, compared to the 27% tariff Nigeria imposes on U.S. goods.

This policy shift could have significant economic implications. Last year, Nigeria exported goods — primarily crude oil — worth ₦931 billion to the U.S., while importing ₦1.05 trillion in return.

Trump’s tariff escalation has triggered swift backlash from allies.

The European Union, Britain, India, and China were all included in the latest round of duties, while Mexico and Canada were spared.

Like it or not that woman will be removed if she goes against President Trump.

It not a matter of mentality, it a matter of reality.
