This is for my people who love dried fish for their home made foods and catering services .

With daily requests from my wonderful customers nationwide I want to tell us more about bragi mangala also called Okpo in igbo .

Mangala" does not refer to a particular fish, but to a method of various fish in cutlet forms. Shallow water fish are cut into pieces before smoking rather than smoked whole. Fish under this name are called " Mangala" smoked in northern Nigeria Lake chad basin, so are larger freshwater fish, including knifefish (Asa) and various catfish.


We have basically 3 types of mangala


* Bragi mangala (Okpo)

*Aririah mangala.

*Asa Mangala

Except you are going for an occasion that requires big cuts or sizes.

When you want durability go for small sizes, because it will take you for a long time.

Bragi mangala is what the hausa called it

The igbos are the major consumers of this fish .

So the igbo name for the fish standout, even the Hausa/Chadians called it "Okpo mangala"
