Also, for a country producing nearly 30% of the world's output, well both agree that hurting them in any way comes with serious consequences.

Plus, those countries you mentioned, especially Vietnam, and Mexico have substantial Chinese investments in their manufacturing sector. In essence, lots of goods coming from them are "Chinese" in everything except the place of production.

There's nothing "idiotic" about China, Trump is just grasping a straws. Like I mentioned earlier, every reasonable person wants China to triumph, that way the US would be put in their place.

Americans don't need China market to survive, but without America market China will fold! If a seller lose a customer that can purchase same product else where, who do u think will feel it the most btw the seller & the customer? Without America, there is no market for China! America got the purchasing power, no country or continent can replace them. You are just being sentimental instead of logical. They'd still identify that your transit country and impose a 200% tarrif on it too.

Trump is pained to the marrow China is a self sufficient state unlike others and can easily do away with the US but the US can't survive without the Chinese. Investors prefer to manufacture their stuff in China because of cheap labor and almost tax free regime which is not obtainable in the US. (e.g. The likes of Innoson won't go to the US for their spares even big company like Boeing can't build aircraft engines without the Chinese components, Apple will make almost no profit if it tries to shift its production line to the US )

Just imagine that they have launched their homemade aircraft since 2019 Comac C919 which is even rumored to be better, cheaper than Boeing that's crashes almost every year(all parts were built from scratch which is not obtainable anywhere), China has also taken over the EV industry with the arrival of BYD ( a cheaper and more durable alternatives to Tesla). All it takes China is to instruct FoxCon (major chip and manufacturer for iPhone and Boeing) and other IC companies to stop every business dealing with the US companies then the US will be done for in a few months

Trump tariff according to Trump is to correct the trade in balance . What Trump didn't realize is that they are the more buying from China because they sent their production line to China because it is cheaper to produce in China than to produce in the USA.
Secondly, the manufacturing he wants to bring to the US isn't going to happen over night.

Chinese might just open offices in Vietnam produce in China and export to US via Vietnam.
