Chima Amadi Mourns Pascal Dozie, says, he was a statesman who left an indelible legacy

Dr. Chima Matthew Amadi, a prominent Nigerian figure and scholar has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Pascal Gabriel Dozie, describing him as a visionary entrepreneur and nation-builder whose death marks the end of an era. Dozie, the founder of Diamond Bank and a towering figure in Nigeria’s financial and telecommunications sectors, passed away at the age of 86, leaving behind a legacy of innovation and excellence.

In a statement titled “A Titan Departs,” Amadi expressed profound sorrow at the loss of Dozie, whom he hailed as an “illustrious son” of Imo State and a pioneer whose contributions shaped modern Nigeria. “Some stars shine so brightly, their light reaches us long after they’re gone,” Amadi wrote, reflecting on the enduring impact of Dozie’s life.

Pascal Dozie, born in 1939, was a celebrated business leader whose career spanned decades of transformative achievements. As the former Chairman of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group and President of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, he played a pivotal role in strengthening Nigeria’s economic framework. His establishment of Diamond Bank revolutionized the banking sector, while his leadership at MTN Nigeria catalyzed a telecommunications boom that reshaped the nation’s digital landscape.

Amadi highlighted Dozie’s personal qualities, noting his integrity, humility, and wisdom, which earned him admiration across generations and global acclaim. “He was a quintessential community leader and a father figure,” Amadi said, emphasizing Dozie’s deep ties to Imo State and his commitment to good governance, transparency, and accountability.

In an emotional appeal, Amadi urged the Federal Government and the Imo State Government to immortalize Dozie in recognition of his monumental contributions to Nigeria. “While we mourn his passing, especially at a time his wise counsel was most needed, we also celebrate an extraordinary legacy built on excellence and foresight,” he stated.

Dozie’s death has been met with an outpouring of grief from across Nigeria. On behalf of his family, the Jude and Juliana Foundation, and The Mazi Organization (TMO), Amadi extended condolences to the Dozie family, including Dozie’s widow, Chinyere, his son Uzoma, and the Egbu community in Imo State. “We pray that God Almighty grants eternal rest to his gentle soul and comfort to all who mourn,” he concluded.

Dozie’s passing comes at a time when Nigeria continues to grapple with economic and developmental challenges, making his absence keenly felt. As the nation bids farewell to one of its most influential figures, calls for his legacy to be honored are likely to resonate in the days ahead.

Adieu, Nda Pascal.
Signed, Dr. Chima Matthew Amadi, Mazi Gburugburu
