The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has issued a stern warning to motorists, stating that eating, drinking, or smoking while driving could land the offender in jail.

LASTMA stated that these actions are punishable under the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018.

This comes as the agency continues to push for safer roads in Lagos by discouraging distracted driving, which can lead to accidents and other traffic-related incidents.

In a post shared on its official X handle on Wednesday, April 9, LASTMA wrote:

“Smoking, drinking, and eating while driving is an offence under the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law 2018.

Additional Penalty:
Impound vehicle / Three (3) months imprisonment or six (6) months community service.”
