What Is The Nigerian Dream? by GenderMix(op): 6:02am On Apr 11, 2025
The concept of a national dream is often associated with the United States, where citizens aspire to own homes, access quality healthcare and education, and enjoy well-maintained infrastructure. The American government prioritizes these basic amenities, making them easily accessible to the average citizen. This, in turn, contributes to a high quality of life, happiness, and national pride.

In Nigeria, the situation is different. Many citizens struggle to access these fundamental necessities due to inadequate infrastructure and ineffective governance. This raises questions about the government's policies and actions: Have they improved the lives of Nigerians? Do citizens feel a sense of pride and ownership in their country?

To cripple the country called Nigeria and stall its future through tribalism, ethnoreligious supremacy battles and dominance.

Every country has criminals and evil minded individuals ready to do stuff for financial gain. This is typical. However there has to be a robust system in place to checkmate such practice and reward people who engage In productive activities.

Nigeria has system to checkmate criminals but a weak enforcement system.

Does Nigeria have policies set aside to reward productive ventures? This is what people look forward to in systems that work. It encourages hardwork.

Sounds funny but looks like a probable direction.

I'd say the Nigerian dream would be a nation with good governance and a sense of national pride where basic amenities are available.
Affordable housing, education, feeding and health, devoid of insecurity, where the police is your friend, with religious and ethnic tolerance.
In other words, a nation with common sense. undecided

Nigerian dream is to make enough money to be worshipped in the society and given positions of power/influence (merited and unmerited).

My Nigerian dream is to live a life of integrity, service, and self-reliance in a Nigeria where honesty is rewarded, hard work pays off, and every citizen has a fair shot at a decent life. I strive to build a secure and peaceful home for my family, invest wisely in our future, and contribute meaningfully to nation building. Through gradual progress and unwavering values, I dream of owning my home, growing financially independent, and playing a role in building a stronger, more accountable Nigeria.

Most Nigerians are best at saying everything they do not mean since their actions almost always tell an entirely different story altogether. You only need to look at all of their religious/traditional leaders, your politicians, celebrated individuals, etc., in the country for a picture of what most Nigerians are all about. undecided

The same way you do not need to meet all Americans to realize the American dream, you also do not need to meet all Nigerians to realize what the Nigerian dream and the general belief and character of most Nigerians are. undecided

2. I don't have a Nigerian dream. undecided

You are missing the point.
What can Nigeria offer you? What are you looking up to benefit from the Nigerian system since you pay tax and contribute to national development

The Nigerian dream , just like the American dream is not about your personal goals.

Oh okay. I’m not missing the point—I believe I’m making one. I don’t pay tax or contribute to national development because I expect personal favors in return. I do it because I believe in the idea of a functioning society.

But yes, like any citizen, I expect that a system I support should, in turn, provide me with the basics: security, infrastructure, quality education, healthcare, and the opportunity to thrive based on merit—not connections.

What I’m looking to benefit from Nigeria isn’t just money or handouts—it’s fairness, dignity, and the kind of environment where I don’t have to leave the country just to live decently. A system that rewards integrity, not just hustle. That’s not asking for too much—it’s asking for a nation that works for everyone
